In Europe is it absolutly normal and most use type´s of trailers. Its alwas better to load long parts from the side or from top, manipulation is so simple. I am just wondering, that outside of EU are these systems still underrated.
Curtain side trailers in North America are not that popular, but there are a hand full of places that will convert a flatbed trailer to curtatin side trailer. The disengagement of the American curtain side trailers is that the roof doesn't open for overhead loadinng like on European trailers and on American trailers you can't raise the roof. Right now I am looking for a place that will build me a curtain side trailer with the same if not better versatility as the European trailers.
You guys should check out curtainsiders used in Australia! Much better ratchet system for tightening the curtain either end and some brands use carbon fibre strips inside the curtain which in some states can be certified as load restraining-must have a certificate on the curtain from the manufacturer to this effect. Straps and buckles are being replaced by a system operated electronically or air assisted system, which can be a curse when they are not working properly, then you are wishing you had the straps and buckles back!! Generally curtainsiders in Aussie are a very quick and efficient pieces of equipment, no need for docks or pallet jacks.
