I will never forget the day my mol told my hubby 'Blood is thicker than water" He turned around and looked at her and walked to their garage got his tools brought them home. We didn't speak to them for almost 3 months. The impasse was broke because we all sat down and agreed out son didn't need to suffer because of being stupid stubborn.

@16MedicRN my hubby, myself, and mil refused to speak to each other for 3 months. So all 3 of us were. My son was only 2 years old. It wasn't my son who needed to suffer because of our actions. My fil made all of us sit down and talk it out. Im grateful we did. It was basically saying I realized hubby stood up for me when I thought he wouldn't.

I married her golden son, she was convinced I was a life draining succubus. 23 years later I proved to her I’m in it for the long haul. My son recently got married and I absolutely adore my daughter in law! She takes such good care of my son and that’s all I could hope for. She then treated our daughter like that until she married a guy that sister disapproved of. She now ignores our daughter completely but she’s MISERABLE! But she’s eating her sh_t pie today. It's not really an update but rather information I haven't seen in the comment : the ''French'' woman really isn't French. Like as a French person, her French accent was terrible. I feel like it's the same type of accent Americans put on when they need a French cook in a show but only listened to stereotypes and try to spell out the words on the script. At first I thought oh maybe she's been in America for so long she sort of gained an accent but I really don't see how she would as she spoke French with her family... it wouldn't get as bad imo.

Yes, but remember too that it must be difficult, since they've been conditioned right from birth to accept abuse and intrusion, to feel guilty for being a separate person and to always serve the mother's needs. My MIL was a British war bride and in the British army during the war There was nothing I could do right in her eyes . After my husband died I maintained a relationship the best I could She finally needed me. At 98 when she was dying I spent 6 weeks or more at veterans hospital with her during covid lockdown She didn’t have the virus but there were many rules She died in my arms comfortable and having a beautiful passing God Bless her🌺

I was "married" to a mommy's boy for far too many miserable years. She was always number one. He never, ever stood up for me nor defended me to her. I never said a word to anyone about this nightmare I was going through, suffering in silence for decades. The happiest day of my life was when this subhuman packed up and left. It was also the first day of NO MORE MIGRAINES for me!!! My life now is quiet, peaceful and stress free - heaven!!!

You've done the right thing for him and his happiness. It's our job as parents to support our children. If they make a poor choice and it ends badly, we help them pick up the pieces, learn from their mistakes and move on. Ultimately, if he's happy, that's marvellous. Your daughter in law and son obviously love each other, which is wonderful.

My mother in law hated me and wished death to the pregnancy of our son. My son's grandmother only saw my son twice @ Age 1 and 6...then never again, it was her choice. I don't know if my mother- in-law is dead or alive. I was married in 1979 and divorced my husband in 1999, it was destroying my health. Their family was just evil as she didn't like American people. They were Jamaican. I gave the marriage a long chance. The marriage was mentally abusive to me and our son and I had to save myself and our son as his father became more abusive like his mother. He took her side totally and didnt stand up for us. When our son turned 19, he found out his father stole his identity and the Magistrate awarded our son the right to change his name since he and his father shared the same exact name but our son was a junior.

French mom does not give af. She’s proud of everything she says and loves that everyone knows it. Her son is no better. He likes his Mercedes more than his wife. His wife needs to invest in herself and get away from both of them.
Agreed. He likes his life just the way it is with mommy providing him with a home and Mercedes. He’ll never stand up to her.
They both I feel as mom and son are borderline narcissists absolutely believe they are above everyone else. And to be disconnected and narcissistic to call someone mentally ill, etc. when she is the absolute root of it. Feeling isolated like they do to her would send anyone into a full on tail spin mentally.
I believe the Doughter in law lines to be a freeloader also and she clearly loves her alcohol … this trio don’t match .

in the last case, why doesn't the son speak English even though his mom is speaking french. She will get the hint. he is a wimp. the wife can do better.

Even if the husband is of a different ethnicity, it is horribly rude of him to speak French with his mother in his wife's presence, and when the conversation is so clearly negative towards the wife. I blame the son for taking part in this.

I have a wonder dtr in law. She is a daughter I would have loved to have. She makes my son laugh and so happy! I have to live with them. I do not interfere with their spats when they have them. Which is very rare! I love her dearly, we are always ragging on each other. Only in fun! She’s an Angel and I love her very much!❤🥰😻

I’m so glad that my sons in law don’t hate me. I hit the Son In Law lottery where my three daughters are concerned. They are all happily married to amazing men who love and respect them. Isn’t that what we want for our children? And I would never dream of interfering in their lives. My youngest daughter’s husband always has to tell my Happy Mother’s Day before my daughter does. It’s a cute competition.
