With Captain Treece, it was never hard to get a hardy salute from her. Even with a pilot on board while doing the welland canal runs, she would often sound her horns. Most vocal boat around when sailing, thats for sure!
Hey now lets save some steam for the propeller! I am sad during my time working the boats I never sailed a steamer. The best whistles on any ship I worked on was probably the Roger Blough. The Burns Harbor had some loud Kahlenbergs but not very melodic.
Oh I was about to say, I know Edward L Ryerson wouldn't sound like this 👉 0:21 but this 👉 0:40. J. W. Westcott has made a long master salute by the way so bravo 👏👏👏👏
The same whistle was on the three sisters, Republic Steel ships later bought by Cleveland Cliffs. Beautiful, fast moving ships that were scrapped 1980. A sin in the Great Lakes Shipping admirers.
Unfortunately that’s not the case anymore. Fortitude and Challenger are gone, Ryerson is in layup, and most of the steamships have been defiled by conversion to diesel. Alpena, Lee A. Tregurtha, and Anderson are all that are left, really.
Josiah Hanna with the economy back in iron ore, chances are she will be converted to a self unloader. She is a diesel-burning steam turbine, same as many other ships like the Anderson or callaway. If she is not scrapped that will happen before diesel conversion.
“I’m sure she will sail again. When you get a more robust steel economy, I have no doubt you’ll see that boat sail again.” - Tom Wiater, President of Central Marine Logistics, which operates the Edward L. Ryerson (November 2019 after moving her to the Cumming Slip, at Fraser Shipyards)
She's one magnificent and gorgeous lady . How I wish she was still on the lakes doing her magic 😞

Love that steam whistle.
She's so beautiful! Her horns take my breath away! How sad she's no longer in service.
She is beautiful. I wish I could sail the great lakes with her.
The only problem is, she’s in permanent lay up as of now in the Twin Ports.
This is my absolute favorite video of this ship plus she is my favorite laker it is a shame to see her just sitting
Just gotta be patient. A steam locomotive takes up to 12 years, this could be a while

that is the best whistle in the world

Tha is an awesome blast horn.Love it!
Beautiful boat. But it seems the scrappers have a fetish for nice old boats.
Not scrapped yet!
weird wording lol and it's not over for her yet!
she's a beautiful ship (but all the old great lakes freighters are)
it's a good thing so many of the old freighters are still around

@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial your forgetting the Clarke and Callaway
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial The Lee A. Tregurtha is not steam powered anymore. Also, you forgot about the Sykes and the Philip R. Clarke.
Gave me chills from head to toe
So that’s the horn from TSW
She is that best ship ever I wish I had the Edward l ryerson
I have heard rumors about her steam engines being restored but who knows

"Fast Eddie"
Never heard the mailboat give a five horn salute....that's a first.
Either it’s tradition, or they wanted to provoke Treece into giving them a salute.
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial I'd bet that treece is easy to provoke 😂
I stand corrected...
Wow!!!! 💕
Want that horn in my Yaris.
Lol no way those horns would fit
Westcott with the Kahlenberg D-2s and the ryerson with the tyfoon 300 and 425s
I've heard a nasty rumor that the Ryerson will be converted to diesel. Does anyone know if that's true?
Josiah Hanna well, it’s possible.
NO! don't scrap it. It should go to the The Wisconsin Maritime Museum at Manitowoc, wi

Sugaredrat 374 she likely will remain in layup like the United States has been for decades. Nobody is qualified anymore.
@@stevenmack880 no we have enough museum ships we don’t need anymore she needs to be back in service
Why no unloader? Still using hullets these days?
Timothy Spearman
They moored her at 18 may 2009
And she's not being used since

@@just-shipping-it Hey Tom, good to see you're still with the fleet.
They won’t add the unloading boom I hope she is the last straight decker that can move
Seniority would be my guess.
Too bad she's been laid up for so long. Probably won't be put back into service unless diesel conversion takes place any time soon.
Michael Myers she also needs a self unloader
+CALEB LACOMBE then how come the algoma equinox doesn't have a self unloader and she is operating? i don't get it

apparently the same horn as the Edmund Fitzgerald....
edward l ryerson is a male not a female
All ships are referred to as she it’s bad luck to call a ship he
