So... my tip is for people who have had their luggage delayed &/or lost... especially when traveling overseas, when traveling with a partner, split your items between bags. For example, 1xluggage for you + 1xluggage for him = 50% outfits for you in his luggage & the same for his in your luggage. From underwear, socks, shoes all the way to sweaters. This way, until they find your luggage. You still have clothes to wear.

  • @54Mello

I don’t wear makeup so that eliminates one bag for me….I buy toothpaste, suntan lotion, soap, shampoo and conditioner etc…at our destination so that eliminates another bag (buy it before I leave or buy it at my destination is the same for me). If we cruise we usually arrive a few days ahead in Florida so I go to a drug store to get whatever I will need allowing me to travel with a carry on suitcase and small backpack…
I don’t use a binder to put important papers I fold them in envelopes, label the envelopes (insurance, eye glasses prescriptions, tips, and now vaccination proof, etc…and put them in my passport holder/wallet.
I am in my late 60’s and traveling started in the mid 70’s when I backpacked for 3 months around Europe. Over the years I’ve eliminated so many things. I’ve learned to build travel wardrobes for any kind of trips…like cruising, excursions etc…
I think you did good on your packing for one month. It’s basically one side of your suitcase. CPAP machine are a hassle to bring but I traveled with someone who needs one so I know how important they are. I don’t do CZcams videos and I thank you for lugging all that equipment with you to entertain us.

Does the sanitizer/lotion/oils etc that you packed in your purse and backpack not need to go in a clear liquids bag to get through security?

You are correct, they say to put all liquids in a clear zip lock bag. However, out of all the times that we have traveled, we have never been stopped or asked if there were any liquids in the bag, which is odd. We do usually put things in a clear bag, or group them together in the bag, at the very least. The last two times we went though security, they didnt even ask us to take out our liquids or laptops.

    • @segwrites
      @segwrites Před 3 lety +1

It definitely depends on the airport. The main two that I’ve had a negative experience with are SeaTac (Seattle Tacoma) and Tampa International being the only hardcore airports about putting all liquids in a quart size bag, outside of now up to 12oz of hand sanitizer that needs to go in the same bin as your liquids bag, but obviously doesn’t have to squeeze *into* your liquids bag.
I’m not an avid traveler any more, but they were the only ones in my experience that made a big deal about all liquids going in that clear bag.
Some airports have better x-rays that can differentiate things, and others just aren’t as strict. (According to a couple TSA officers I’ve talked to.)

@@ChubbyAndAway You're lucky. I'm always asked. But what I never did (and I don't know why) is repack them into the carry-on in their proper organizational pouches before getting on the plane, so I always end up causing around this liter of fluids in my personal item. That adds some weight, so this time I'm flying out, I'm going to take the time after TSA to redistribute those items in the carry-on bag.

Many people who chew gum think they are chewing it quietly yet they are not. The rest just don’t care how loud they smack or pop. I’ve never found gum to be necessary to unpop my ears and never considered it an activity to just “do” while sitting.

I just found your channel a couple days ago and have been watching your videos. I really enjoy you and Jimmy and you're humor. I used to work on the road for about 12 years and was on the road more than I was home so packing was something I got really good at.. Yes rolling your clothes is a big space saver and using the cubes is really great not only for you but for TSA when they're checking your items. They don't just scatter everything about and then just jam it back in. I'm going to start lots of train travel in the next month or so, so I'm going to have to learn to downsize a lot more. I only take one bag to check and a backpack on the trains. Thanks for the great videos. I live in Vegas, hopefully I'll run into you when you're in Vegas sometime! Also just some feedback...I'm watching your channel on TV and the music is a bit over your voice. May not sound that bad on a computer or phone, not sure. just an fyi

I am assuming that the jewelry you pack in your checked luggage is costume and the medication is not prescription and also is the glasses. I have always been told that kind of stuff needs to be in the carry-on?
I got sick overseas once and I couldn't find the over-the-counter medication I needed. Tried several options that were recommended by the pharmacist but nothing worked so I suffered for a few days until I was able to get the medication in another country.

Yes! We definitely don't travel with valuable jewelry, and if we do, its always with us.
As for the meds, it is a general recommendation that you do carry your meds with you, especially if they are not common abroad. For us, we take pretty common medications/vitamins, so we know that our medications are readily available at most pharmacies across the world (and at much cheaper prices). We carried our medications while traveling throughout Asia, but got so tired of taking a giant medicine cabinet with us, so we did research and were able to find standardized meds. Hope this helps!

You can't take it for granted you can find common meds anywhere at anytime.

Love this video. Gave me some ideas for my upcoming trip. But I have a question. How do I pack for a 3-month stay in Istanbul without overpacking?! :-) I am thinking at least enough bottoms for a week. 3 pairs of jeans, 2 skirts & 2 leggings. I will be coordinating my tops to match the bottoms. But I read somewhere that you should pack at least 2 tops to go with the bottoms. 14 tops? Of course, I will need a raincoat and jacket. And at least 3 pairs of shoes. I am going with monochromatic colors. Since I am going in September and staying until December, I am thinking layers because it's still warm in September but by the time I leave in December, it will be cold. Can't forget makeup, laptop, etc. See what I mean? How the heck do I NOT overpack??!!! Because of the amount of stuff I have to pack, I will have to do a check-in bag. Hey Bonnie! Amanda here. I would pack exactly the same as I did for a 3 month trip with just a few tweaks. Yes, layers. I would also pack my coat. It has a fleece lining that is removable so it can be a raincoat or a warm coat without having to pack 2. I can look it up for you so you can get one if you need. I love cardigans so I will pack lighter shirts and a heavy cardigan to go over so I can wear both in two different climates. I would bring a pair of comfortable sandals, walking shoes, and another pair that you can dress up or down. Kitten heels or slip on flats. Get shoes in neutral colors so it matches everything. I tend to go with black but nude would work too. If I were you this is what I would bring: a pair of jeans, a pair of linen pants or a dressy pant, 2 pair of shorts, 3 maxi skirts, and 4 pairs of leggings (they double as clothes and pajamas for me). I would then bring 1 shirt to match each bottom but versatile enough to wear with another bottom should I choose. I would then bring 2 extra shirts just in case. I also bring 3 spaghetti strap under shirts should I need it and for layering. My coat with the removable fleece lining, and 2 neutral cardigans. You could rotate that as you need. I always bring two bras and 10 pair of underwear. You got this! Have an incredible trip!

He didn’t believe me and everyone was staring and it was SO EMBARRASSING. Last time I flew was in February and I did not buy two seats but Delta was still keeping middle seats free. We are so sorry you had to have an experience like that. We have found that the flight attendants in the USA are much more unforgiving to people of size. From now on, if we try to only fly Southwest as they are the only airline with a customer of size policy. Our advice is to keep watching the seat map online, especially at 23 hours before your flight, when the airline automatically assigns seats for those that didnt pick them. You might be able to do some last minute seat juggling, so you have an open seat next to you. Thats what we do ;) Hope this helps. Good luck!

I'm shocked you are putting your CPAP machine and contacts in your checked luggage. I use a CPAP machine and considerate it medical and expensive. I would not take the risk of loosing it..

We don't do it every time, but with this being such a long flight we didn't want to lug it around. We have been lucky in that we've never had a bag lost. 100% understand what you're saying though.

leaving in 30 minutes? My God if I was leaving in 30 min, I would have been packed the day before.

I had been packed since that morning. I don't pack way in advance usually.

I am stunned at how much she is taking even if she is going for a month. She way over packed especially as she was staying in an apartment. She took more odds and ends than she did clothes. She seemed like she was taking way too many electronics and toiletries. I can go to Europe for 2 weeks just using a carryon suitcase and a large personal bag. (No checking luggage - no lost luggage and no waiting for luggage to be removed from plane.) It is all about neutral bottoms and colorful tops and scarves. My rule of thumb is if I don't have something, I can generally buy it or I really don't need it. Rick Steve's packing video is more helpful for travel now a days. She packs like I did for my first European trip when I didn't know any better!

Feel free to make your own packing video, since it sounds like you have plenty advice to give ;) I am guessing that you are not a plus sized person, or a person that vlogs, so you dont need to take extra things with you.

So, help me understand. You're going away for a month and you ONLY packed ONE bra?! That doesn't make sense!!

I didn't bring just one bra. I brought a few, but also had a washer/dryer in our airbnb so didn't need to bring a ton.
