I love the Neumann kh 310s! Funny thing is, Ive been working with them for 7 years now and never even new about the limiter! (obviously I've not been cranking them enough!) I enjoy your channel, keep em coming!
Monitor hiss is my kryptonite; I can't escape it! Even monitors that really reputable people swear up and down are "dead silent", I get my hands on them and it's hiss city, and even taking them to various studios just to make sure it's not just me, people have verified what I'm hearing but they say it's normal. Even the HEDDs that Jazzy Jeff uses, I'm like "where is that noise coming from??" and turns out it's the tweeter hissing like crazy but everyone tells me it's normal self-noise. 🤷♂ If my monitors are turned on but not playing any audio, I want to be confused as to whether they are powered on or not. But I haven't found anything like that yet!
@@fantastictalesofproaudio2391 in your experience, do you think what I'm looking for is more readily available in passive models? Is this issue possibly most common in self-powered ones?
@@soulchorea I have a pair of Genelec 8351b that are very quiet. They are about 5 ft from my listening position and I listen to everything through them. I have also had smaller Genelecs and they were quiet also.
I own a pair of dynaudio core7 with sub. Crazy good midrange for a 2 way. Death quiet. When I hear some sort of hiss, it’s always my guitar signal chain.
I never had good luck selling JBL studio monitors. I remember taking a pair to Eric Bazilian and his feedback was they were very loud and gave him a headache.

They are great sounding monitors but it is like a wet blanket when that limiter kicks in.
Isn't that the point of bigger speakers? If you want it louder you need them bigger!
Yes and no. New speaker designs have really improved.

Any experience with the JBL LSR 7 series?

@@fantastictalesofproaudio2391 interesting; I wonder if that has something to do with the horn on those models.
The hiss was very loud. They needed to do some homework.
@@fantastictalesofproaudio2391 Good to know! I'm still running a bunch of old jbl lsr4328p and lsr4326p but eventually will need to upgrade.
