Played since game launch they do nothing for YEARS about the amount of bots, trolls, etc in general a toxic enviroment espeically for new players then randomly decide this is the year to introduce SPYWARE to try and combat the YEARS of ignoring it? yeah I am with you as long as they require SPYWARE to play a FREAKING VIDEO GAME then I refuse to play it anymore.

Vanguard is a Ring 0 program, it can't not run and then restart properly without rebooting windows entirely. As much as I despise Vanguard and its concept, the way its designed it can't work differently.
The issue with Valorant is it needs to be on when u play. So u need to restart the pc. But after you close valorant you can right click the icon and turn off Vanguard. But you need to restart pc next time you play. They want to prevent injection or preloaded hacks before you launch the game.
Never going to happen defeats the purpose of it.
Then The cheaters won’t stop cheating and anti cheat is basically useless. Thats how good modern cheaters are. They run their cheats at level 0
The vanguard implementation was the final reason for me to finally delete LoL form my pc. No way I'm insalling a kernel level anticheat on my pc...

i am a rather security and performance focussed person, so I will absolutely NOT run a kernel level software all the time, even if i just want to play one game of league a month. thats a security risk and performance dip i will not accept.
I dont think riot will change anything about this, but as long as vanguard has to start with windows all the time and runs even when im not playing league is unacceptable

The only thing that really makes me hate Vanguard is the fact, that it disrupts many community-developed eSport broadcast production toolkits (like the one from the Riot Community Volunteers. I am part of eSports Cologne, an eSports club in Germany and we do many community casts of our club teams in the Prime League. Due to Vanguard coming to League, many features like gold graphs, custom scoreboards, objective counters etc will not be working anymore, as they have used passive memory reading.
I, and many other esports communities, would really appreciate, if Riot Games could make this data available via the API or cooperates with community developers (like the RCVolus) to find a good solution.

Vanguard is nearly maximally intrusive and affecting of people's ability to play. You really expect people to hand over that kind of access to protect the game, when the whole reason there are so many scripters and hackers right now is because you couldn't protect your own data?
I'd rather play with a hacker in half of my games than play league with Vanguard. It's arrival will be my permanent deletion of the game unless it's removed. Principal alone is enough justification, let alone all the potential sketchy things it opens the playerbase to.

I have not once encountered someone in league that felt like he cheated. And everything in league needs to be confirmed by the server anyway. Putting Vanguard into League feels wrong.

@@ivangranada5299not bait at all. I've also never once dealt with someone that actually seemed like they were cheating. Scripts and such affect a very small percentage of players in this game and I hate that they're shoving this sketchy of an anti cheat solution down everyone's throats just to cater to that small percentage

i'm in an group of people that tested scripts in the past and as soon as they opened them (in 2022) they got permabanned, hope this will end at least the bot farming in coop-vs-ai but i could never accept this kernel-level spyware that is vanguard
i have been playing league for 8+ years, and i am master atm, i have seen so freaking many scripters its insane, in urf, ranked, normal drafts, most people just cant see it if you arent really, like really into the game mechanics, its often the reason why low elo players often wont "see" or encounter this, because when they do, they just think that player is very good. Vangaurd is needed, atleast in EUW, where i have seen all this scripting.
Playing late night ARAMs with the boys was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to be installing Vanguard just to play a game I only half enjoy.

It's not about it being annoying or not , Vanguard is an INCREDIBLY invasive and intrusive to your privacy , it runs even when you're not playing league of legends and records EVERY keystroke in your keyboard , colletcs data on your pc and leaves you open to harming malware should a group of hackers have bad intent for tencent (company who owns league of legends) @@justsomeweebwithamustache2674

@@DepressedBenBecause it installs onto your computer as a driver that boots up with your computer and needs to stay on as long as your computer is on even if you're not playing league.
If you turn it off, then you have to restart your computer to let it start up again to play league. Other anti cheats will turn on and off with the game but Vanguard wants to be on all the time.
@@DepressedBen some people actually have enough brain cells to recognize, when a company is over reaching into privacy and potentially exposing your PC to RATs and 0days for no reason. Its a VIDEOGAME, you are installing an always-online, from bootup, 100% full hardware access program, that can (and will) disable any drivers, programs, files, and potentially send them back for "analysis", at a whim. And there is nothing you can do, no way for you to know.
In Valorant, it disabled mouse drivers, keyboard drivers, removed files, crashed systems, required BIOS setup tinkering, and who knows what else that we were never told about.

Riot is overreaching with this one, and i am glad many people are recognizing when enough is enough.

I get that they want to get rid of cheaters, so does everyone else, but vanguard isn't a good idea. I'd rather they use another system or make it not run while the game is turned off.
I didn't think the reason why I'd finally stop playing League was introduction of Vanguard, and yet here we are.
Having an always-on rootkit is a no-no already. And on top of that with the announced requirement for TPM 2.0, I am just not willing to go out and buy a piece of hardware for my PC to enable it.

(But I will admit that I can't find a hard source on it now, despite seeing it on multiple websites around December)

@@ares3208 bro it is a software that runs at the deepest level of the pc. ANYTHING and I mean anything is possible to happen at that level. Lets say you trust chinese pple to not put spyware into your pc when they get the chance to (like that will ever happen). Even if they dont access your private data, if they get hacked one day. A hacker could easily get Keyloggers,remote access or anything super dangerous onto your pc. Vanguard is pretty unhackable but will you take the chance?

@@nic.h well I mean it is an understandable complaint I agree, on my part I do think this will solve a lot of problems, furthermore kernel level anti cheat is bound to become more and more common, Microsoft already has all my info, if some Devs have it too it ain't changing much (plus I do think it's what I like to call a "loud" minority and it won't affect much of the playerbase anyways, witch is up for debate but we'll see soon enough) As for what I think is the real problem with vanguard, it would be the inability for windows softwares prior to 10 to run the game, since lol tends to be the game for potato PC's usually, anyways that was my full point, and people are obviously allowed to disagree, in the meantime I'll wait and see.

I've played league on and off for about 8 years now but with the addition of Vanguard I'm quitting with this update. I beta tested Valorant and the version of Vanguard used then caused a boot drive corruption on pc which cost hundreds of pounds to fix. I forwarded this information onto Riot and while I'm sure they've taken that information onboard to make sure it doesn't happen again, I can't afford to risk it. This isn't even considering the other implications of having software running at ring 0, and the security risks involved with that. Even though League is pretty toxic, its been the go-to game that my mates have played for years and we've made some good memories, so for that thanks riot.

As someone who had his past with broken PC's. It is really just frustrating and depressing going through a PC-repair. After finally getting a stable PC, I just cannot risk having this experience repeat itself.

@@bence2345 Honestly my guy this was the first thing we tried, the damage was so bad however and that meant we had to replace parts before we could reinstall a clean boot of windows. When it came to data recovery, the SSD I was running was absolutely minced. We ran extra tests because I wanted to know what caused the issue (I work as a video editor and I wanted to know if it was any of my software causing the issue). Reports came back and we forwarded the data logs onto riot after finding out it was vanguard, still it wasn't a fun experience.

Despite privacy concerns, vanguard also stops people with older pc builds from playing league, since vanguard does not support older builds unfortunately
What do you mean by “old” builds? It’s 2024, any PC made in the past five years or so will have no problems running the game and vanguard

I had similar issues, it turned out Valorant was disabling my CPU overclock before my PC even loaded. So even if I never opened valorant, I still couldn't play my performance intensive games without them lagging. Only solution was to uninstall valorant/vanguard.

Vanguard will be my retirement of LoL, I never used cheats and I'll never will, that's not the reason, but because I will never install any application on my system that runs on kernel level, no matter what it is, it's not happening, period. No; losing lane and calling the opponent a scripter, dosen't count.
Only bots i found out was just in the bot games i did, for easy quests or the related achie points, so they can then sell the accounts.
Then again, if you can find a good bunch of cheater on valorant "all the cheaters" you found these days will remain there

League was aways a game that I kept going back to no matter how much time it passes after I get tired of it... well, It was.
I'll not bow my head like Valorant players accepting Vanguard running in my OS background even when I'm not playing the game, nothing justify that, no other anti-cheat is intrusive like that.

hey, listen man. just here to let you know me and my friends have already uninstalled league after the initial vanguard news. we had issues with it in the past and it was the sole reason we are not playing valorant. best wishes, league player since season 2.
Same here, my group have been playing way less since the announcement and will probably uninstall if vanguard does go through. We'll be awaiting the release of Smite 2 as an alternative moba lol

League of legends can already do that. Any executable on your pc can already do that. Your mouse/keyboard/headset/case rgb drivers are all ring 0 kernel level always on from bootup, and they are much less secure than an anticheat (these companies like razer/asus/logitech take months to fix publicly known security issues).

Hey, just letting you know I'm quitting because you're introducing vanguard. Nothing against you all as people, but riot as a company is simply not trustworthy of ring 0. One of the few problems with doing frequent dev updates: sometimes, there's just not much to tell.
Either you want frequent communication or you want large updates. Idk why anyone would expect to get both.

I'll be completely honest, adding Vanguard to League sounds like something good but for a player like me it probably means I'll stop playing. Why? Let me explain.
I mainly play ARAM and TFT very casually. I used to play a lot of League but nowadays I don't have the time for those long ranked games.
Having said that, if you guys make me have Vanguard ON every time I boot my PC I'll probably just uninstall League. I like to have very little things running on my PC while working, as I do video editing and need every last processing power of my PC and to be honest I just like having a clean system tray. That means I would have to manually quit Vanguard every time I boot up my PC, which is not worth it in my opinion.

I like League of Legends, I've been playing it for years, but with Vanguard they give me a reason to stop playing it, which is most likely for the best, to finish a cycle and start a new one.

14 years I've been playing league, going to miss it, but I'm not installing Vanguard. It's far too intrusive, paired with the fact that you have a history of your most sensitive data being leaked, and the companies, and countries you are now essentially tied with, it's definitely a big concern, too big.
I understand most people will either be blissfully unaware of what vanguard is capable of, that or simply cope that it's a fair trade to keep feeding their particular video game addiction, but it's absolutely insane the type of data vanguard can harvest, ultimately you are entitled to ZERO privacy when choosing to have League of Legends installed on your computer from now on.
Thinking that is in any way acceptable is ridiculous, especially when you factor in that cheating in League Of Legends, when compared to other video games, is such a non issue.
It brings even more into question, why then does all my data have to be harvestable in order to play the game?
Here's hoping this change will be reverted one day, but if not it's been fun.
I definitely advise anyone reading this to look more into the capability of Vanguard, it inarguably harvests more than you would think necessary to prevent cheaters in a video game,
seriously question if this is something you are willing to not only accept, but also encourage as a norm moving forward.

I hope this comment section makes it abundantly clear that the day League tries to install Vanguard (or anything similar) on my machine is the day League gets uninstalled and is never coming back. There are already industry AI solutions to automate anti-cheat. Vanguard is a violation of privacy with no purpose.

Allow vanguard to not need virtualization off and secure boot on, along with disrupting a lot of tools people use such as utility tools. Not to mention you shouldn't have the need to have it on at all times on your pc.

maybe some blue screens were occuring in the early days, but they have fixed it - you must of course have TPM 2.0, UEFI and secure boot to do it

I know I most likely won't run into problems doing so, but there's a good amount of people that did turning secure boot on (excluding the people that did so without following the proper steps). I got a new pc and it was quite expensive so don't really wanna risk it.

True I've been playing for 12 years and honestly I don't see myself playing it anymore with vanguard. It's not even because of how intrusive it is like most people. It's just because of all the tools I can't use due to it, along with bios changes and needing virtualization off in order to just get to use it without any errors.

Tbh, I wanted to see an 8-bit Arcade game consisting of the Battle Heroes fighting against the Battle Bosses, with Blitzcrank as their tutorial boss, and then until to the end, after multiple series of boss fights, would be Veigar. His final phase should be him shoving you (the player) into something like the core of their universe, that is basically the place for glitches that happens a lot and binary numbers like a bunch of 0s and 1s going on there

Not only is it intrusive it also prevents you from using many tools and virtualization (fellow bluestacks (or other emulator) players won't be able to do any of that with vanguard on). It also requires secure boot on, which is a risky thing for certain computers as I see many people having issues with turning it on (some of it due to them missing some points, but even when everything is correct it can still cause issues).

Riot owned servers, EUW EUNE NA LAS LAN BR TR RU and that's it, China, Korea, Japan and TW (and maybe VN too) have their own less intrusive and well working anticheats (that outperforms Vanguard)

Been playing since 2013 and with the current anti-cheat, I have not encountered any cheater or "big cheater". Any capable cheating software or hacker themselves already know how to bypass any anti-cheat, including Vanguard. The only ones that get hit are "obvious cheaters", which can be easily detected. In another words, anti-cheats hide actual severe offenders better and make the normal players (majority) suffer for it.
Addtionally, it is clear with the original deadline that has been cancled and moved and the extra hesitance after the moved release date, where you will still only test it on only one region, that this new software is not compatible with this game or client. You are struggling too hard.
All of that just does not leave me with confidence.
How about just make Vanguard a requirement for ranked?
I literally have only played ARAMs for about 5 years now and have never seen a cheater (only a handful of bots, ever).
I shouldn't be required to have a kernal level anti-cheat just to play an ARAM.

Bots are used to level accounts to 30 and sell the accounts. Then people buy these accounts and run it down in ranked. I don't personally see blatant cheaters, but this is what I am looking forward to the most with Vanguard.

It is basically an anti-cheat that runs at the earliest possible level of your computer. To give you an example, when you press your ON button, Vanguard will be one of the very first things that will boot up. What this means is that Vanguard can do whatever it wants and will know whatever it wants. Vanguard can (and has done already) turn off and even uninstall stuff in your PC. Some have lost their peripherals' drivers. This, on top of yes, having access to any data your computer has, including data you can't even access yourself.

Not only is Vanguard actively killing its Linux playerbase, its also killing off anyone who simply DUAL BOOTS on their system, even if they have League on Windows. Dual booting requires that Secure boot is disabled in the bios so it doesnt block non-windows OSs from running, and Vanguard requires Secure boot to be enabled to run. Learned this the hard way with Valorant. On top of the massive security and privacy concerns, I'll most definitely be uninstalling and never looking back once Vanguard is released. And i hope that enough people also do so to the point that riot has to respond.

Problem of scripting in high elo is a problem in two servers that matter for riot, which would be NA and EUW, the scale is small enough that it could have easily been fixed with game admins, but that idea was never on the table given how riot was not ok with addressing the issue of chinese boosting companies running high elo in NA for years.
