    I'm 90 minutes North of Milwaukee and tried growing sweet potatoes for the first time this summer. I planted them in containers like yours and was told they should be dug up before the first frost. We're not expecting frost but I just couldn't wait any longer so today was the day. I'm so excited to tell you I have wonderful sweet potatoes and will plant them again next year!!!

    I managed to grow some small sweet potatos in Zone 4 last year, I started late though, so this year I started the slip process earlier and I may make a small little greenhouse with t-posts and vapour barrier around the planting area!

    I gotta try this next year. Thanks for showing!! Enjoy your harvest!

      I'm trying them this year. Do you have a way that you cure them?

    • @SimplyGarden
      @SimplyGarden Před 3 lety +1

      @@pamclemens8752 Ha! I just noticed that I said Wisconsin. I used to live in south east Wisconsin. Have lived in southern New Hampshire for the past 37 years.
      As far as curing Sweet potatoes. I try to harvest them before any frost comes through. Try to lay them out in an area that will get decent heat to help dry out skins. Once they're, about 2 weeks. Move them where they get moderate moisture and in a cooler area. I try to keep them 50 degrees and above during winter storage. Also make sure to use up earlier any potatoes that got damaged during harvest.
      I hope this helps. Thank you for asking.

    Nice looking taters! Not too shabby for Wisconsin. I may have to give some container sweet potatoes a shot next year. It will save space in the garden.

  • @northeastslingshot1664

    It must be pretty sad to say goodbye to the Brew City Farm 1.0, but it's nice that you have a success on your last day! Look forward to BCG 2.0!

      It's bitter sweet. It's not fun having to leave but I can't help but think of the opportunity that waits. If I play my cards right I could end up with something way better.

      @@BrewCityGardener -- A lot of the houses in New Berlin were built on 2 1/2 to 5 acre lots back in the 50's -- my brother bought one when he moved out of West Allis. Keep New Berlin in mind when you are searching -- there are even some old farms still to be had.

      @@PlanetMojo Absolutely! There's a farmhouse on a few acres near Caledonia for the right price that I have my eye on. Just have to convince the Mrs.. You know what they say, "Happy wife, happy life."
