- Another amazing interpretation of Forever Young by Patti LaBelle, this time rehearsal footage for the Soul Train Hall of Fame show--and quite different from the version she sang on the actual program. It's interesting to see her figuring out the arrangement with her band and clearly improvising on the spot. Thanks to Labelle of the Ball for originally sharing this video.

Yes I feel the same way. When God was giving out voices and everything attached to the voice he gave her extra. Really. When I saw her in concert live that's when I realized this was true. Plus she knows how to use that power and she has a big heart and Is emotional on stage and it pushes past her own vocal limits. We get to witness it.

Patti had everyone shook that night! The performance was outstanding and one for the history books. I remember thinking how I bet no one wanted to take the stage afterwards. She also shut down the closing song "lean on me"

@@jermaincooper26 yes it was. This is a normal things does. I've seen patti like 8 times live. Check out Live Aid... same thing.
@Tre Jermaine You're loud and wrong. Ifthat was the case in both this rehearsal AND Live Aid you would be able hear clearly and over the band. You cannot. Further, I've seen Patti several times in 1990s, and no mic you can hear her throughout the theater.

I've always thought that the late great queen of soul Aretha Franklin's voice was just as powerful if not more than Patti's going by studio recordings. Now, these live shows are a whole nother deal. I don't think Patti does no more than any other artist pass or present. Why hate if someone's vocal abilities can reduce you and 100 of your top selling friends to background singers.why hate on it? If I had that ability I'd be doing the same damn thing...lol

Now, I love my fellow Aries, Auntie Re, but her voice is no where near the power of Auntie Patti or Auntie Gladys. I've seen them in concert several times in the 90s and Patti's power in theater was unreal and Gladys' soulful tone is untouchable.
