Sleeping diagonally in a dual cab truck bed

  • I have been following Mav on CZcams and the whole "truck" camping thing has appealed to me. The only problem is my vehicle tub is a lot shorter than his which doesn't allow for sleeping length-wise. One day i climbed in the back for some unrelated reason and while I was there I thought I would lay down diagonally to see what it was like and found that I had an adequate amount of room to sleep. This kickstarted this entire build and video.

    Great video mate, came across it randomly as looking at possibility of a minimalist camping setup without permanent conversion or an outside tent

      Thanks mate. Yes I think it hits the mark for a good quick setup and opens up a lot of possibilities for places to camp.

    I have been wanting to do this sort of thing for donkeys. Work just gave me a different Ute which has canopy (had a tonneau cover before) so gonna test a basic version out.
    I like you short floor and also corner storage / kitchen sink idea too.

      Keep an eye on my channel over the next few weeks and you will see my version 3 build which is so much cooler and a way better use of the space.

    Love the No pack-up, walk around the front and go . Thanks mate. And looking at the first bit of drone footage of the top and especially the side view of the ute at the start of this video, i couldn’t believe you actually can fit across it, to sleep. Especially looking at the side, you’d never believe it. I would never have bothered considering a ite like this to go camp in, because it would not have occurred to me that even i would fit across it (im a 62 year old, 5’ 8” lady). So I’m really pleased. Thanks heaps mate. Greetings from Warracknabeal

    Awesome video mate! I was planning on doing the same setup on my dual cab Ranger, the only thing is I'm 1.90m tall, not sure if I'll fit in cozy as you. Cheers!

      Your feet would touch the corner but would be doable for you. I'm about 1.8 and had room above my head and below my feet

      Im 6'3"/190cm, I sleep with my tail gate down, and a gazebo covering the back end of my ute, which isnt really stealth camping. I think if your needing to stealth camp, youll do easily.

    hey mate absolutely love this, do you have issues about the rain ect, and how do you lock the back of the ute?

    • @AllThingsOutdoors
      @AllThingsOutdoors  Před rokem

      Gday Lachie. I don't have any leakage issues as my canopy has an overlapping join to keep moisture out. My canopy locking system is tied into my central locking so just need to click the button when I'm inside and its locked up. There is an interior door handle in there too.

    Nice work, just trying to work out with that fan how is it mounted in the window? Looks like a solid piece of glass. And does it let rain in? Removable in bad weather? Thanks for sharing your ideas :)

    • @AllThingsOutdoors
      @AllThingsOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It's a computer fan mounted in a piece of aluminium that then gets shut into the sliding window in the front of the canopy. Can be flipped to either draw air in or out between the the cab and canopy. Can be removed in bad weather and the window shut but light rain doesn't seem to bother it.

      @@AllThingsOutdoors That's brilliant, thank you so much for explaining that. And finding a fan that draws in air from the outside is a great idea. Cheers

    Are you 3 foot tall? How anyone can stretch their legs in any dual cab ute tray is a mystery.... Only ute that you can accomplish this in a a Falcon ute and only 4WD ute would be a space cab Ranger...

      Ha! You've found me out. I'm really a midget posing as an average height person. But in all seriousness the diagonal sleeping arrangement that I have built sleeps an average height person like myself quite comfortably.

      Thanks for flexing on me with the height thing🤣but in all seriousness I love this setup. Last weekend myself and my 6 year old son both slept in it and had no issues either.
