Great video and overview of The Boneyard. I’m the (now former) Councilmember that pushed to get this over the finish line. A few details: cost was $2 million for the skatepark, the overall redo of Rick Oden Park is about $20 million. The original price allocation from the 2004 bond election was about $450,000. The facility had no “home” and no one pushing for it, so it kept getting put off and a number of folks just wanted to kill it. There was no design work being done in the interim. I advocated for the skatepark to come to Rick Oden Park and be the centerpiece of a redevelopment of the park. A public meeting was held in April 2019; we had about 100 skaters show up and give their input. That was much better attendance than expected and is what gave supporters on the Council the leverage to get this built and go much bigger than the original cost allocation. It’s going to be a spectacular park and worth every penny.

What a burst of nostalgia. I used to watch John when I was 16 or 17 and took up skating as a hobby. I dropped it pretty quickly as I discovered it wasn't for me and found more interest and passion in photography. All these years later, at the age of 23, I see John's face in a CZcams comment and think to myself "where do I know this guy from?" So cool to see you're still doing your thing! I hope you grow and grow and keep on enjoying success!!!

This park is the reason I just started skating again after 19 years. I'm 44 now and just started again last week. I rode the Allen park a few times on a BMX about 11 years ago (and it was an awesome park), so when I realize my hometown has now built a bigger and more comprehensive one it just blows my mind. Back in the day we had to pay crazy money to skate private parks that were sometimes 1/3 of the size of this park. Jeff Phillips Skatepark, Eisenberg's, and the one in Kennedale (Freestyle, I think?) were the major places in the area. I remember that Vegas (my 2nd hometown) started building numerous public skateparks around the turn of the millennium, and I can't believe it took Garland over two decades to catch up. There's always been a strong skate scene in Garland dating back to the 80's and 90's.

That’s a creative way you’re advocating. The editing style reminds me of a young TY Evans, and you’re filming and skating! Very inspiring Man, hope you check our park out once it’s done!

I'm 41 been skating sense junior high but had to stop cause of a work injury pinched nerve to the left leg and a severely herniated disc in my L3 I so bad want to skate again this beginner section looks perfect for me wish it was in my town
