@@aaronmcgarrigle2721 its not actually. I take on board that it isnt a very clean fish but to be honest your doing well just to get a salmon these days. I know it wasnt a kelt as it was caught at the beginning of october and salmon dont spawn till nov.
Thanks alot but that fish was caught at the beginning of October last year. Ive updated the content to reflect that now. I have once caught a spring salmon in the river Ayr but it was about the 3rd week in April. It was 3 years ago. I was fishing for trout with a small mepp and a 6 and half pound bar of sliver took the lure
When fishing in the spring I fish the condom up stream as i reckon the salmon has already chased all the smaller fish out the pool and the lure / spinner coming head on to the fish higher in the water induces the take more often !!!!
@@afishermansdiarywithiainup5377 yes hold tight as they tend to take at your feet as you make your way up stream gently as you can with a bag a rod and a massive net !
@@davidcollins5102 sounds exciting stuff. I did once have a large Salmon take the lure right at my feet. I jumped out my skin as wasnt expecting it. I didnt land it unfortunately but was a great experience
Dont think there is coarse fish in the river Ayr. Apart from some fisheries I'm not aware of much coarse fishing in Ayrshire. There might be sum but im not sure. There is plenty in Dumfries and Galloway in the lochs around the Galloway forest. Maybe give the fishing shop in Galloway a call. Its in Newton Stewart. Plenty of places to catch coarse fish there.
any time from now until end october. Keep at it. I was out 30 times last year and got 2 fish. Just your luck. If you put the time in you will get a reward eventually. Today and the next couple of days should have fish running up the river. Good luck
Hi there. The rod is a shakespeare expedition rod. 9ft 6, The casting wt is 15 - 60 grams. The reel is a shimano xl 3000. I them both second hand off ebay. I hope that helps
@@ryza7168 To be honest most pools on the river Ayr you have a good chance. Just pick a pool you like the look of and have a go. The salmon have to run the river to get to the spawning grounds so I guess you have as good a chance as any. couple of tips. Fish the tail ends of the pools , I think the river fishes better when its peaty rather than clear and if the water is not clear I like to use orange or blue lures. To be honest any lure that has a good vibration in the action will attract the fish. I have even caught salmon when the river was totally brown on a big spate. Its just your luck. If you want anymore tips feel free to message me. Thanks
@@afishermansdiarywithiainup5377 yes i know it's the handle and it wasnt very seriously meant, just a tiny bit of harassment since you have money to buy a fishing license but no money for a drop of oil:) And yes it has happened to me too many times lol...
@@MrKveite1 look its cool. Nothing wrong with abit of banter. I had a baby otter once come up to me when I was fishing. It was attracted by the squeaky reel handle!! I do oil it every season but after getting wet loads of times and lots of use it always comes back.
@@afishermansdiarywithiainup5377 well it's a mechanical piece so obv the oil wear off after a while. I have 3 Shimano stella saltwater but even they want some oil and grease now and then despite beeing the best reels you can get together with Daiwa's top model reel.
Superb Ian, well done sir.
thanks. It was nice to get a fish after being out so many times

Its the Annbank stretch of the river Ayr. You can get a day ticket from the wee shop in Annbank. It was 25 quid the last time I checked.

Its true it could do with some oil
It doesent mather if the reel is 40 years old, it does still require som oil now and then....
The handle probably needs oiling its true. It had had alot of use. The cogs inside had plenty of grease on them.
