    The soundtrack from this game (the AdLib version) marked my childhood (my son's middle name is Maks); I still have MP3s that I made of it, back in the day. Thanks for this.

    This is just wonderful, comrade.
    It really brings me back to my youth.
    Thank you so much for uploading and keeping this jewel here for us.
    Stephane Picq was such a genius.

    Never played KGB, but the music reminds me of Dune1/2 and of the time when FM synthesis sounded like magic.

    This music, this is part of my youth right here. Really enjoyed that game, warts and all.

    I'll need to see some identification, comrade. Game looks odd, but the music is stand-out. Stephan Picq is becoming one of my must-listen composers now. I'm finally going to find what other games he's composed for. Thank you for uploading the files too!

      He's amazing, glad to see he's getting some attention. Lost Eden is my favourite game soundtrack ever - not FM though.

      I fkn hate the ending, hope they would make a remake, with better plot ending, it just started feeling rushed in those later chapters.

    Brilliant, his best work. Excellent use of the limited FM architecture at the time and some truly memorable melodies. Thank you for posting this. Seems a to be a little heavier on the bass end than some of the other rips I've heard out there. Good thing!

      I think his best work is Dune on AdLib Gold, but this is a close 2nd.

      @barbarianbros Před 7 lety +2

      KGB and Dune both had support (and specific music files) for the AdLib Gold that use the card OPL3 and its exclusive 'surround processor'.
      2 Games with specific support for the AdLib Gold were made by Cryo, when this card had very low support, barely a dozen of game support it specifically (other games support it, but as a standard AdLib card), in 1992 Creative Labs had already set the Soundblaster as the new standard (PCM sound effects was the important point).

    As someone from Soviet russia it would be cool to see a review or your thoughts on this game. Another channel I watch, JimPlaysGames did a playthrough of this and had some russians comment on it a bit later. Was pretty amusing & interesting

      I like the Exxolove tune that's exclusive to Amiga A LOT, but not so much the remixes of the 3 other songs. Plus the Amiga soundtrack is 3 tunes short.

    KGB/Conspiracy also had support for the AdLib Gold card, and for the Roland MT-32. The roland version lacks 2 tracks ('Machine' and 'Gorbi' ) which have no .M32 files in the game data files. As for Dune soundtrack, the KGB soundtrack does not use custom instruments on the MT-32 but only the default ones.

    This soundtrack has wonderful use of the kind of strange FM percussion sounds that were unique to that synthesis technique. Really nice use of layering and detuning, too. The patch design is also so inventive. All of this makes such a difference when compared to most Adlib soundtracks. It's too bad that PC authors had to support so many soundcards. I bet you would've seen more stuff like this otherwise.

    • @dosnostalgic
      @dosnostalgic  Před 8 lety +4

      I am most impressed with the speech synthesis in Gorbi (check out 11:07). Picq was truly a master of FM music.

    • @barbarianbros
      @barbarianbros Před 7 lety

      I wonder why he did not use the 12 bits PCM capability of the AdLib Gold, which was better than the 8 bits PCM from the Soundblaster.

      @@dosnostalgic Dune has the most beautiful FM sounds on the Adlib. The soundtrack sounds even better on the Adlib than on the studio version that use "real" synthesizers (Exxos release).

    Awww man! Great soundtrack, thanks for the mp3s! You‘re not able to rip the music from „Alpha Waves“ / „Continuum“ by any chance? That‘s that strange very early 3D DOS game with a very funky adlib soundtrack.
