It's not unlike with children, where they'll live up to or down to what you expect of them. This woman needs a home health aide to help create a system to manage the sudden vomiting in a way that it can be safely contained and removed regularly. It also looks like she needs help with food, which a home aide could significantly help with. Sometimes, people just need another person there regularly to help with basic functions, and sadly, we have this society that treats anyone who "doesn't look that disabled" as unworthy of help. Her letter about the helplines never actually helping hit home for me, because they never seem to be trained in helping someone who is in crisis but has spent a lifetime masking suffering and is struggling to express how desperate they are and what's all happening. The reality is, most therapists have little to no specific training on hoarding disorder and how to help patients when hoarding is a symptom. It's truly a disappointment that a decade after it was added to the DSM, that most practicing mental healthcare providers still have little to no skills in helping a growing portion of the population.
I started getting emotional when you set up her bureau with all the self-care products and makeup. This woman is ‘so’ fortunate you’re there to understand and support her. Her room … just WOW! Those pups can now get comfy with their mama! ❤

When I watch these videos, I often wonder ‘do they not have any family or friends?’ Like relatives and a couple of friends. it’s really sad that people like these need to rely on the good Samaritans like our (best) cleaner. I’ve struggled with a lot of severe mental illnesses, and I’m an introvert and a loner, but my family and a handful of close friends I’ve got would never let me slip sp far into this state. Bless your heart, our BEST CLEANER.
And with the bedroom being clean, there's a chance she'll feel motivated to tackle chunks of the rest of her home. Maybe she won't, or she'll be motivated but unable, and that's fine too since you're coming back. But waking up in a clean space feels amazing, and being able to see that such a big mess can be defeated can be really motivating for some people. Who knows, maybe you'll come back to a bathroom that's been cleared of the used menstrual products that overflowed the trash can, or the fridge emptied out of all the spoiled stuff. If course I don't know if she's dealing with those specific problems, but given the multiple buckets of sick and the oreo bugs, I wouldn't be too surprised. Regardless of what she is or isn't able to do on her own, I'm so glad she's getting the clean space she deserves
