    Before we celebrate 30 years of the street evolution of the Dodge Viper, we first celebrate its racing heritage! Dodge has created five generations of the Viper, with many being successful in the world of GT racing, and more than 100 wins to its name in Europe and North America. It was one of the deadliest threats in the GT world and all of the racing since the legendary GT40. 3 FIA GT wins, 16 wins in ALMS, 2 ALMS titles, 3 Nurburgring wins, and one IMSA championship win. No other American sports car has taken its place since the Viper first started and ended, or did they?

    In my opinion, the Dodge Viper GTSR is one of the most well rounded race cars. It was complete overkill in the GT2 class against the Porsches and stays very competitive in the GT1 class against the corvette, Ferrari 550, Listers V12 and Saleen S7s

    • @christheradar
      @christheradar  Před rokem +12

      Note: The Viper didn't have much success in GT1 racing. In the ALMS, the Viper competed in the GTS-2 class (GT2) against the Corvette, Porsche, and Saleen.

      @@christheradar Oh ok, I thought that in the AMLS GTS class being corvette c5r and viper were GT1 equivalent as well as the FIA GT season 2001 2002 when vipers raced against the Ferrari 550s and Lister Storms (V12 monsters) .
      Honestly if Chrysler gave a little bit more support after 2004 for the Viper GTS - R it would stand well against the Ferraris 550/575, Maserati MC12, Saleen S7R and C5R/C6R in that 2002 - 2010 era.

      @@christheradar This isn't correct. While I loathe to quote from Wikipedia, this comes direct from their page on Group GT1: "Following the omission of the original GT1 category in the 1999 season, the FIA GT Championship was restructured, such that original GT2 class would be elevated to the top class of the championship, and become known as GT while a new class, N-GT would be the lower class in the championship. The equivalent of this in ACO sanctioned Championships would be the GTS class, and the GT class. In 2005, both classes would become renamed as "GT1" and "GT2" respectively."
      GT2 effectively became the new GT1 after the original iteration died, thanks to Porsche and Mercedes. The Viper GTS-R was quite successful in the early years of the 2nd generation of GT1, winning the FIA GT Championship and the Spa 24hr endurance race in 2001 & 2002. Unfortunately, despite Oreca's and customer teams' best efforts to keep the cars competitive, Chrysler stopped all development on the GTS-R after 2000. It's a testament to just how good the car was that it was still capable of winning the French FFSA GT1 Championship in 2005, despite being made obsolete by newer, more developed race cars like the Saleen S7-R.

    For those making the next Video on Viper, it is NOT a Lamborghini designed engine. They were contracted for (5) prototypes. One ran with help. One ran with more help. Three delivered in pieces. Team Viper then designed the entire V-10 themselves using the water jacket philosophy of Lamborghini. That is it.

    I am not saying this because I'm italian...but I really have to say that, to me, the ONLY american supercar that is really iconic is the Ford GT40. it's really a question of style: a supercar is not only speed (today there are sedans that are faster than supercars for example) but above all a cult object, a special object that you love to follow in the factory in its creation down to the smallest detail (as happens, for example, in the Lamborghini ateliers), a concept that has never existed in American cars which have always been "half-baked supercars". The GT40 is for me the greatest exponent of American supercars, the Fort GT has been able to reinterpret the concept quite well.... but you opened it and inside you found pieces of the Mondeo (so to speak, I wouldn't be surprised if it were true though ). The Viper for me is not really a supercar at all, it is a muscle car.... real supercars are made in a totally different way.

      I can promise you the direction that Dodge is going with the future EVs, they will never do that, and speaking of Hellcats, Dodge is ending production of the Hellcat in 2023. If I told you that Dodge is returning the snake, the last thing I'd think they would do is put in an electric engine or a V-10 hybrid.

      @@23GreyFox This is the dumbest statement I ever read. Just because the Viper couldn't beat the GT1 cars and switched to GT2 class to be successful doesn't make it *irrelevant.* Chrysler reckoned that right move for the car to get wins. It still beated European teams from Porsche etc. Plain and simple.
      Really? That's blatantly wrong and untruth to say. Plenty of folks care about every class wins and not just the overall wins. Higher classes don't make the lower classes *irrelevant. All classes are important* and *matter* in motorsports.
