  • NOTE:
This song IS NOT from the SS division and is over 500 years old. It's a German folksong that have been used by many for both political and non-political purposes.

2 things I need to say about this. Firstly, this is some of the worst translation for a song that I have ever seen. Secondly, this song was composed in 1920 by Fritz Sotke and Heinrich von Reder. Saying it's the song of the 8th Shutzstaffel Calvary Division is completely wrong, as the folk song is for Florian Geyer a well respected diplomat from the German Peasants' War. The division, while it is named after Florian Geyer, does not actually have any correlation with the folk song. They didn't march to it or anything. At least there is no evidence of such thing happening.

I'm curious. It was composed 500 years ago, but what was the origin/reason for the song to be made?

I think its about the 30 years war which was amidst other things a war for religious dominance over the hre and europe between the catholics and protestants. Also some peasants revolted against the catholics at some point but i dont remember everything about it

Florian Geyers was a knight that supported peasants against nobles and church in german peasants war in 1500s. This is not a nationalistic song.
