  • 5 reasons why your parrot screams! Birds scream because they need our help! When screaming becomes a habit, it's because we have conditioned our parrot to scream, or we never got to the root of their screaming. When you have an HOA of angry neighbors or work from home, a parrot screaming can disrupt an entire household's life! My parrot will not stop screaming questions I receive daily on CZcams are " How to make my parrot stop screaming" or "How to get my bird to shut up" and "How to quiet a screaming parrot," "Why is my parrot screaming"? Those questions are usually followed by "If my parrot doesn't stop screaming, I need to rehome it." I hope our Parrot Playhouse Parrot Care Video will help you get to the root of why your parrot is screaming for your Help!

Great video. Very informative. I loved the end with Puffy. He is so cute. I think I fell in love with caiques because of Puffy.. My Grey usually screams at night when ever I go in the kitchen or leave her side. One time she had a screaming session and then said , I think I'll stop now. " I said Thankyou and gave her a treat.

Another thing to add is if your household is loud they will try to match or be louder then what's going on around them. I have had neighbors be surprised to hear that I have birds. Of course they aren't quiet all day but they aren't horrible when they are on one!! Such a cute video!! I think Louie loves seeing Puffy which I can't blame him I think he's adorable!!

We are both country folk forced to live in a urban setting due to our jobs. Both of us are moving on to better things, I was only part of the problem with my birds. It is always good to make amends if you can before moving on if you can.

I see many colorful bird posters around, and am wondering if you could spend a bit of time describing them and also how you have your supplies, foodstuffs, bowls, wash routines and fridge/ freezer setups working. Loved this video!! I needed that refresher. We have a rescued white belly caique. She was a plucker at the rescue. So she already knew that behavior. We’ve had her for two years. She was doing very well at one point and since this past spring she has been plucking herself bald.
She is free ranged majority of the day since I am home.
She has excess to the out doors when the weather permits. I live on the east coast.
She is on Tops Pellets. Only will eat fruit, nutriaberries, egg yolks, and carbs. So pretty much fat and sugar. Peppers are the closest thing to veggies I can get her to eat. Carrots every blue moon.
I just invested in a a avain lamp in hopes it would help her mood/feathers.
I was adding supplements to her food. Avcalm, the missing link, and feather enhancer.
Also bought a spray that said it helps dry skin in birds. I thought maybe that was her issue and that’s why she’s plucking.
She has toys and different things to chew on but isn’t much of a chewer. When she decides she’d like to chew it’s only cardboard. I thought something was wrong with her beak. She’s been to two different vets and has been released with great health.
She has a sleep cage and regular sleep schedule in a quiet dark room.
She is our only bird. We had asked the vet if she’d benefit from another bird in the house she said that has been known to back fire badly.
I’m at a lost as to what to do. I feel maybe she’s lonely. I swear her last owner just sat all day in a chair with her glued to their shoulder and fed her nutriaberries. Lol I just want her feathers to grow back and for her to be content. As you can see I’ve spent lots of money and am seriously just trying to do right by her but I don’t know what else to do.

What a cute thumbnail! Says it all.
My most recent adopted bird, Zeke the canary-wing, was twice rejected as being "too loud." Luckily I think of parrot "noise" as music.
Don't forget they scream for fun, too. It's exciting to make noise, esp. to get reactions from humans. That's why yelling at them has the opposite effect people think. The bird enjoys the volume. Also they scream at dinner time, and "flock assembly" times such as in the later AM and an hour or so before sunset.
This is well 'splained and produced. The sound could be a constant level, though. I had to keep tweaking up or down.
I'll be linking this to folks in my bird groups. It's fun and helpful.
    You have quite the flock!

Exactly, screaming is their only way of telling they need something.
It is our duty to try and discover what they need.
Usually what works with my parrot is buying a lot of toys and switching them almost daily.
Indian ringnecks as other parrots too are very very intelligemt and get easily bored.
I take mine out in the summer, I spend all the time with him when I'm home and making sure he sleeps well every night so we have two cages one in the bedroom and one in the livingroom.
Livingroom cage is mostly a cage where he can forage and 9lay and the door is usually always open.
We have this because sometimes I have friends over late at night so his sleep routine is not disturbed when he can sleep in the bedroom.
But I don't want his cage to be in bedroom when we are in the livingroom for obvious reason.
He wants to hamg out in hia cage amd om the playtop above among us too.
All this concludes to that people are always so surprised that parrot are so quiet 😅 yes mine is when we arrange things like this and he is happy!🦜
So yeah two big cages I don't think it's extra it's just a good set up for maximum birb happiness 💘

She has a buddy, my 15yr old african grey whos cage/perch is oposite her cage. She has fear of hands and fingers so the treat system wont work very well, she cant be handled at all. She screeches absolutely loud and randomly. I tried spending hours at a time everyday in the same room as her. When i leave the room the screeching begins but not if im in the room.

My female cockatiel screams piercing loud every time the male goes to eat (both 3-4months old). Even if she’s not hungry herself, she screams whenever the male wants to go down to eat. Till the other one comes up again and then she goes down and finally stops. Often she just sits there and doesn’t even eat, she’s kinda ‘protecting’ the food. They definetly have enough seeds, vegetables and even fruits.
Also the male bites her whenever I handfeed them, and she’s weaker and more anxious of me, so she backs out.
What the hell can cause this? It has nothing to do with me and she(both) definetly has enough food, There’s nothing wrong, the male never screamed like this, but the female is kinda affecting him cuz he also starts now sometimes.

My green cheek screams when I leave the room and am still in the house, she just wants to be with me all the time. At night time we have stopped her screaming to come out of the cage be introducing a good routine. Need to work on stopping her screaming when I leave now. Any tips?

Can you turn on Parrot Town TV for her or give her a special toy with treats inside when you leave the room?

This may be a stupid question, but when not in hormone season, can you touch/pet a parrot elsewhere besides the head? Like the wings, belly, or under the beak? I'm getting a caigue baby in May and I want to be sure when it gets to hormonal age that I'm not doing the wrong thing!

    • @justahuman4616
      @justahuman4616 Před 3 lety

It's not only during the hormonal season. You should NEVER EVER touch your bird unless it's their head or a little bit of the neck. If you're not okay with that, then there's nothing wrong with getting a different animal who you can touch all over

@@justahuman4616 that’s what I thought. I’m fine with not touching those areas.

My Grey mostly screams when I go in the kitchen because she wants a treat. After I got her something she stopped. One time I asked her why she was screaming and she said I want to go to sleep. It was late. Another time she said "I think I'll stop now.. This told me she was doing it on purpose.. some times you can ask your bird and she will tell you why.

Yes she can talk when she wants to. She can answer because she understands words. She does not repeat. She comprehends and answers accordingly. I tried to get her to repeat but she is too smart. I tried to teach her to repeat the wolf whistle and the words,, Hi gorgeous. She refused to repeat this. Instead she amazed me by saying, "Sly is some gorgeous bird." I even had a budgie that used to say, Hi mommy when I came home. Birds learn comprehension when you talk to them all the time.

My bird rarely screams. But....How do you weigh a bird that is unsocialized. I am working with taming Elmo but he has had a lot of trauma and is hand shy. He will take food from me through the bars but once you put the hand in the cage he is scared. He is 17 to 18 years old (Chattering Lory) and I only know part of his history but he has changed humans at least five times. Help.

My Catalina Macaw will scream for seemingly no reason. I will be talking to her and then she climbs up her toy hook on her playstand and screams. I just ignore her when she does and thankfully it lasts no longer than 1 minute.

So what do you have to say about Carolin's rescue bird "Glory" her hyacinth macaw and how that bird can scream her head off. I believe she has gotten a little better, with time. But that poor bird is damaged. The old owners left her alone way too much,, in her own room, in a cage, behind a closed door. So she learned to scream for attention, that she never got. Carolin said that the past owner even went so far as to put Glory in a compartment area under the stairs, trying to muffle out or silence her screaming. Its very sad. I would have gone crazy with Glory's constant screaming.. i give Carolin lots of credit.
So I was just wondering if maybe you can think of a way to help Glory. Or if you can give me your thoughts. I know you two are friends.

When my cockatoo screams ,she wants something , has different screams for water ,food , play ,attention . She really came put of her shell when I gave her a large cat castle and removed her cage from the house . It's her nest now . My bird is definitely not a prey animal ,has tore the hell out of my 20 pound cat that is terrified of her !!!! Had a 178 pound dog that was afraid of her also!!!! The house is hers ,shes paper trained ,loves beer ,pot and eats anything I eat . No chocolate or avocado in the house!!! She can turn the t v on and off ,the lights too an the kitchen sink water ,hasn't figured out how to turn the water off yet , will viciously hunt you if she doesnt like ya , she understands english real well ,has attacked people who verbally threatened her .she can fly real well !!! The smartest animal I've ever seen!!!!!!!! I've had her for 15 years she rules the house ,has killed mice bloodied up many dogs and cats awesome companion !!!! Loves riding in the car
