    中、高とオタッキーだったんで宙明サウンド本当に好きでした。勿論作品もですが。でも大学生になり流石にオタッキーのままではダメと思い(当時80,90年代はオタクに厳しい時代だったので)B'zやGLAYなど聞くようにして興味の幅を広げようと頑張ったが宙明サウンドに魅了されてしまった身としてはなかなか受け付けられなくて苦労しましたね。久しぶりに当時を振り返ってしまいましたわ。

      I saw Iczer 1 when there no subtitles and only part 1 and 2 were available. So watching over and over again to understand the story and hearing the music, it definitely left a lasting impression!
      It was also one of the first animes I saw showing 2 females in a relationship but yet not really making it a big deal. It was just a thing that the two people were doing, and when you think about it like that how they lost each other in the battles to take over Earth, it was actually kind of sad!

    I'm 26 and I've felt the same way. It's like the since early 2000's theres been a process of dumbing down, and catering, towards west coast like mindsets (it's like modern anime and manga has these storylines that japanese writers back in the 90's and 80's and so far back-would never have even dared to settle for). I think the moment that anime became popular in America was when it began to loose it's more respective nature. Especially for those of us who already new of it way before...

    • @FLJBeliever1776
      @FLJBeliever1776 Před 5 lety +1

      Ah, I remember the classics. Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2032, Macross, Orguss, Votoms, just to name a few. I liked Tekkaman Blade from the 90s especially for its characters and their dark, yet lively colors. Music was especially good. It always had a reason to be there at that exact moment. A lot of music these days, feels canned, like fruit or vegetables I would take on a camping trip.
      The 80s especially had a lot of OVAs, which is sad for them, as many of the OVAs hinted at truly great stories that needed to be told in detail. I think things started going down hill about the late 90s.
      Then it was a landslide thereafter.
      Gundam, for example, had been great right up until Gundam SEED. Don't get me wrong, SEED was good, Destiny not so good, but after that, it was like the owners of Gundam just wanted to cash in on whatever made their wallets fatter and their sponsors happier. Gundam had its issues before then, mostly plot holes (like how a truly massive war could be fought in one year with so many developments), but it was salvagable.
      Instead, they decided to ignore the original Canon and create a new series that played on popular opinion rather than grounding in fact about what really happened.
      I mean, seriously? The Guntank appearing some 20 years before it was actually needed? The history had already been written and then they just gunk it up with Origins, which is about as original as Bubblegum Tokyo 2040 is a continuation of Bubblegum Tokyo 2033!
      Seriously, though. You can still find some good gems, if you know where to look. I avoided High School DxD like the plague for its content, but when finally convinced to sit down and look at it... I have to admit... I missed out until then.
      Unlike other heavy fanservice and/or harem series, like Sekirei, I haven't seen a male lead as definite and defining as Issei Hyodou since Tenchi Masaki first appeared!
      While the opposite of Tenchi Masaki, he isn't the dense, idiotic wooden character I've seen as such a lead for some time. He's like a mix of Ramna Saotome and Tenchi, but given his own personality and development and he isn't alone either.
      The other characters get development time too. The male supporting characters are given developments with deep backgrounds to their characters. The female characters, but main and supporting, are also particularly strong.
      And best of all, they are Super Duper Uber Characters, better known as Mary Sue and Gary Stu Characters.
      They make mistakes, aren't all that intelligent, and have their own development needs as well. Something rare these days.
      Going back to Gundam SEED, I mean, Kira Yamato managed to figure out where every program on the Strike Gundam was in seconds, simply because he was a Computer Techie.
      In the Original Gundam, Amuro Ray had been leafing through a manual that had survived the death of the officers carrying it. So he had an idea of what pages to look for when he needed to find something in a hurry. Still took him time and he had the same level of intelligence as Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala, was a computer techie, and built and programmed a Haro in his spare time.
      Which is more identifiable to you?

      While I find your argument valid. But most of the time, when people think about "the good old days of anime", most people think about the big hits and the best of those eras, yet fail to realize there's a bunch of poorly made anime back then as well. Not that I'm labeling you as such, but just a little fun fact.

    • @MrTomemac
      @MrTomemac Před 3 lety +1

      I see your point but living in Japan you see that 99.9% of the stuff produced then and today was/is garbage. The west got treated mostly to the standouts but every month is a flood of crap in print and video. Was true then and today. As for quality the Japanese bubble burst and with that the budgets. Anime since while collectively big is lean on a per studio basis. This had a direct impact on quality since the staff and turn around times decreased to reflect the smaller monetary commitment. It also forces a more formulaic approach since failure could wipe out a publisher or studio.

      You're not wrong. But I think it speaks volumes about the state of the industry when the most generic stuff from the 80s and 90s has art and character design that is leagues ahead of 90% of the stuff you see today. And don't even get me started on modern anime tropes. I don't think there is a medium that stagnated harder than anime.

Everyone is drawing these, lackluster character designs that lack anything to distinguish them from what could be more original.
