At the beginning, Ray says, "It's the marriage of classical and rock." Also, the picture at 2:48 is a Coke ad from a Dutch magazine. - Hudba
Awesome video and great pics! With so many great songs in their catalogue, it's hard to choose a fave MB tune. But this one ranks high with me! Ray's intro, John's driving bass/backing vocals, and Justin's voice and lyrics equal sheer perfection! 💘 the Moodies so much!! Love to you all! Deb xoxo (moodygirl) 6/28/19
@Busy Bee Thanks for your nice comment and for visiting! 💕
super song
You said it.One of my favorite bands of all time. That's saying something.Thy this band.Quick Silver Messenger Service:Don't Cry My Lady Love.If you love the Moody Blues give this one a try.Love piano.
.
Yea
Busy Bee I sure loved this group. One of my all time favorite albums in youth, was ‘Question
Of Balance.’ Their arrangements of music,
And vocals superb. Beautiful voices.
Every song from this beautiful group sounds like a symphony... with different styles, differing types of music...This has always been pure genius and will remain as such. I thank them for simply being there and composing and playing what they play
I am surprised to read that both Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues have been excluded from the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. The Moody Blues never got their due respect. At one point, they were occasionally the opening act for the Beatles and had to perform their songs as chants of "We want the Beatles" rang throughout the auditoriums. Too bad. Don't get me wrong. I think the Beatles take a backseat to nobody when it comes to song arrangement, singing, creativity and charisma. However, having said that, the Moody Blues were much more accomplished live musicians.
+Bradley Allen The Moodies weren't so much accomplished when they opened for the Beatles in '65, as it was still the original pop band lineup with Denny Laine. But compared to the Beatles, they definitely became better musicians and concert performers after the lineup change... the 'core 7' era... Hayward, Lodge and Pinder (w/Mellotron!), '67-'72.
+Bradley Allen This is bull shit! Both groups belong in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.
+Bradley Allen rrhof is all bullshit, snoop is in there
+Bradley Allen That's why I put little stock in the RRHF. It's a shame.
+Bradley Allen ..I couldn't agree more.
This band literally saved my life. I don't know where I would be without their messages of hope. They changed the course of my life. I'm a teacher now.
wow, that's great Sir Daniel
Daniel Cook. Isnt it amazing what true and fantastic art can do. The ppl it can touch. Its art when its from the soul and it speaks to the soul. Its not about ego. Its way deep and these artists will sadly never know ppl like you who they made such a huge difference for. They did for me too, but in a less dramatic way.
Thanks for posting this. The original symphonic rock & roll band. Long before the ELO (whom I also love listening to), these guys were just tight. Long live the Moody Blues.
The Moody Blues are rock n roll troubadours, they are storytellers. What most people don't understand is that if all you've heard is the few album cuts that are played on the radio you will never know the story. Each one of their albums tells a different story. The only way to perceive the story is to listen to the entire album, more than once. Listening to only 1 song is like reading only 1 chapter of an entire book.
So true!
I miss how on the old albums every song blended into the next for each side. And the worst thing I ever heard was the 8-track - all the songs were mixed up!
These guys are ridiculously underrated. Amazing songs, amazing band
Most definately underrated!! I LOVE these guys!!! 💞
The Moody Blues..you know them , - you love them! They and Pink Floyd are my heart and Soul.. ..add some King Crimson and I am thrilled to no end!!!!!!!❤
I agree. Nights in white satin is a fav.
Totally agree! Absolutely underrated yet there's so much Brilliance to their music
Not underated at all in my house.
Number 1 Band in my book!I'm 65 and still mellow out to the Moody Blues!
1971 when released; the perfect three-minute rock song. Hayward did it again. The formula they and Tony Clarke perfected works; concept LP's incorporating a hit single or more, segueing from song to song. Justin's guitar and Mike Pinder playing boogie-woogie on the piano are still amazing 45 years later.
room-mate Thomas H.here.Thank heavens for this song, always gets me out of any depression I feel coming on!!!Thank you again
Brilliant Classic Moody's track... If youre not tapping your toes or at least moving something there has to be something wrong with you :-)
We all know it but they deserve the Greatest accolades in Rock and Roll and stack up with the greatest of bands.
(just my opinion :-) )
yesyesyes
Wow, memories of one of the best bands I grew up with in the '70's!! I even got to see The Moody Blues in concert here in Brisbane, Australia in 1987 at Festival Hall in Albert Street in the City ~ an iconic venue of Brisbane's which sadly was demolished along with the other iconic Cloudland venue at Bowen Hills........yep, the good ol' days when rock music was the best!!
The Moody Blues. Have been with these Beautiful Guys for almost 40 years n am still going to their Concerts. Last one 2013 Knox. Tennessee. Only get better with time. Justin Hayward is Amazing but so is John n Graham n Ray is so missed. I Truly Love The Moody Blues. Have seen them 11 Times n as long as they keep playing GONNA keep going to their Concerts. They r True Shinning Diamonds n There will NEVER be any band close to The Moodies. My Favorite Group even. Love You Guys n sill listen to your music EVERYDAY. HaveTwo Tattoos. Tuesday Afternoon n The Story in Your Eyes with Beautiful Justin's Beautiful Eyes. Forever My Moodies. ♥♥♥♥
One of their best, it still sounds great today.
Who's here watching it during 2020 worldwide quarantine?? 💪🏻💪🏻
Get Vaccinated soon
Just saw The Moody Blues last night in South Bend, Indiana. it's taken me 50 years to see these guys, but I only have 3 words for the show. Best. Show. Ever!
These guys rock. Thank you Valarie, for turning me on to the Moody Blues in 1974, I owe you one kid.
Moody Blues have to be ranked in the top 10 of all rock bands. Unique rock !! Incredibly sophisticated !
Still 2024 some of the greatest music ever the music from my youth is the best ever, today's stuff is not comparable to our time
Thank God for the Moodies, one of the few things I enjoy on earth
I always have great memories of my late wife when I listen to the Moody Blues, we went to their concert at Red Rocks in Denver back in 1981 before we had our 3 kids. This was her favorite group and one of mine too.
RIP 🙏 Graeme Edge. We know you're out there somewhere.
I just heard on the news, 'bout 5 minutes ago, about his passing.😥😩😖 Yes, we know you're out there somewhere🤘, & your music will live forever😇
IMOP...One of the coolest songs ever written..
Fantastisch mooie muziek! Justin Hayward is geniaal!
What is wrong with the 400+ people who gave thumbs down. You can’t recognize great Classic Rock when it’s laid before your feet. Pity.
One of the best rock bands ever
The Moody Blues on the turntable, a couple hits of hash, headphones plugged in and lights off. Cosmic, man. Cosmic.
the only way to do it!!!!!
Brother I'ma blow a cloud for you for that👍
Music that moves me deeply. Everyone who had anything to do with this song, Thank you.
It's hard to believe this band was popular so many years ago, they are just so way ahead of their time! Simply amazing.
Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We are part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day
Ahhhh...Justin Hayward....we had such great music in the 60-70's!!!
I just turned 64 and just found out how great the Moody Blues are. When I was younger I never paid any attention to them.I now LOVE 💕 them.
Back in the day when the world was a better place and we had bulk mega Cool music. Glad to have been alive for such wonderful things, God Bless !!
Makes my heart smile reading the comments. These guys are part prophet, part genius! So happy to see all these other generations hearing the music and the message! They killed rock for a reason!
There is no Rock n Roll without the Blues, The Moody Blues...
Have seen in concert 2 times
Had dinner with Graham at a Hilton Head charity event - great person RIP.
One of the greatest bands of time.
Glad they were here in my lifetime.
Damn I love The Moody Blues
Man, I forgot how great these guys were.
Moodies...yesterday, today and tomorrow. Always loved their sound, so different, so original. And I've had a crush on Justin Hayward for going on 40 years now...I don't think I'll ever give that up.
Every time I bought a Moodies album from the mid sixties, to mid seventies, I knew that what I had bought would a) have no filler tracks b) democratically have songs (or poems from Graeme) from each of the members of the group c) have one fantastic track after another with brilliant musicianship and arrangements d) be so good you would want to play the record over and over again d) have some of the greatest examples of album cover artwork at the time. Oh and all my friends wanted to borrow my albums!
SuperNevile So true. Aside from the Beatles, the Moodies' lp's were the only others I looked forward to buying as soon as they were released. And when cd's came along, I went and got ALL of those, too!
I did this too, from the first time I heard Days of Future Passed.
Don't forget the artwork ....
+aster48 Yes, especially "On The Threshold Of A Dream" where the song lyrics were printed two a page in beautiful copperplate....artwork in itself.
+SuperNevile
Never lend out your albums, or your tools!
Definitely one of the greatest bands of all time.
The one and only Moody Blues. Been a huge fan since Go .now.
The 'Rockin' Professor' rates this awesome album as their peak masterpiece, so keep on rockin' on...
As a wide-eyed boy going to college in San Marcos, Texas in the early 70's this music definitely sparked my imagination.
They will never be equaled. Unparalleled, incredible, there are no accolades, adjectives, whatever that can describe their talent. I grew up during the greatest time since the Renaissance, the 60s and 70s.
These kids nowadays do not have a clue.
It was absolutely fantastic. We had the best music of all time.
We put men on the moon!
We Rocked!
"We rocked." You make it sound like a one act drama lost in antiquity. Dude, WE STILL ROCK!
Just found out I love them.Heard Gemini Dreams and I was hooked.I was always bored with Nights in white satin so I never gave them a chance.
John McPherson - spot on! I totally agree with you. THEY are not superficial - very inspiring and beautiful music - unmatched in all aspects of talent!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly, we had the greatest music and dress code for years and just look at how ridiculous kids look today, I’ve never seen styles so bad as they are today. Everything was so much better, nicer back then, everything. Food, clothes, cars, housing, buildings, parks, drinks, women, attitudes, television, even advertising was better then.
We Rocked to survive......US Army veteran 100% PTSD....
A personal dedication to Shaun Herbert, b. 25 May 1959 who loved Moody Blues. A brilliant, gifted musician and father of our young son Matthew Shaun Herbert. Who passed away on the 20th July 2018. Love you always, Helen
So sorry for your loss.
Still have my L.P's! I'd play them over and over, till my Mom would come into the room and say "haven't you gotten tired of the same tunes"? Never! :)
This group was so far ahead of it's time...still are.
A great song from an era of better music than anything we seem to hear today. The Moodies are the best!
I still think it a travesty that they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
olddaddude What? I Cannot believe that. We'll have to do something about that then.
THINK ABOUT IT ...THE MOODIES WRITE SONGS AND PERFORM ALL OVER THE WORLD.........THEY DON'T HIT BASEBALLS
Are you serious?
Steve M Yes, I think the Moodies should be in there with the best.
THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ARE AA BUNCH OF IDIOTS THE MOODIES ARE A NO BRAINER ONE OF THE BEST ORIGINAL BANDS OF THE THE 20 TH CENTURY
The moodys have some of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever heard they are truly amazing.
Justin is such a kick ass talent. The guitar sounds that this group gets from one bass and one lead is incredible. Such a driving sound.
our years past . now we reminisce the young times that once we all had.
It's probably morbid, but I shall lie down for my long sleep, happy because I lived in the same era as the fantastic Moody Blues.
Justin performing this song with a Italian string quartet earlier this year is outstanding.
I grew up in a small pocket of dreams.
To me...this song is the epitome of The Moody Blues....and peace, love and understanding....
....be well!
Greatest band ever! Kds today don't know what they are missing.
As a kid am addicted to 60s 70s
Great! Enjoy!
This was the song that first got me into their music. I still think it's far, far better than 90% of the crap out today. And yes ... they need to be in the RORHoF.
90%? so you're saying 10% today is better than classic Moody Blues? me thinks you need to rethink this, you are being way too generous with today's music.
Absolutely the best and most underrated rock group of the late 60's & 70's. PO-ed that I missed them at Red Rock! They got better w/age!!!!!!!!
it is great" that i can not find a negative comment on these guy! i think they are really true musicians in the greatest sense of the word".
I started listening to the Moody Blues in what my children call the Prehistoric time. When Denny Lane was the lead singer the band had a different musical tone. When Justin and crew took over the music changed and still today is something I will listen to anytime, anyplace. My parents listened to the music of the 30's and 40's and there are tunes I like there. I tell all the young people there is music you might like from any era, just give it a chance. The music now days does nothing for me but the young people love it.
Moody’s pretend that they are just Human Beings , IMPOSSIBLE for humans to create such Magnifigant music!! THEY The MOODY BLUES were and are ANGELS Sent by GOD to help Lead HUMANITY in the Direction of Rightchousness and of course Entertain in such a manner that was Never Before Known!!!!God Bless them to the Highest Heavens !!!
When I see ten of today's "musicians" on stage without a single instrument save for a turntable to scratch with, I despair for today's youth who have missed out on the greatest generation of music that will ever be known to man...
Dids Gilbert I make the same observation!!! Where are the instruments? These youngsters don't sing THAT GOOD to get by on voice alone!!! Learn how to play a piano, @ least!!!
For me this is the ultimate Moody Blues song. The lyrics are just so naively beautiful, nobody does that any longer. Every time I hear the tide rising on the reef nearby, I think of this song...wash our heart aches away. This is good and I am not kidding.
Like a Ford Capri GT.
As a teenager this was my favourite Moody Blues track. I was so darn happy when I finally got the album. (It still sounds great on my big ol' stereo!)
This Band's music was blessing upon mankind.
I believe this is the greatest rock song of all time!
I love this song as much as anyone; it was a pinnacle for the Moodies, but I don't need an f-bomb to express that affection!
Great pictures of the band when they were so young. Justin Hayward is ageless and an amazing talent, as are most of the band members.
The most underrated band of recorded music history. More talented and creative than every other band of the era... and yes, that includes the mop heads
The ultimate cosmic philosophers.
Oh Dennis,. they are not underrated - don't be silly and get all emotional. Just because Rolling Stone Ragazine stoners dissed them ages ago is mostly meaningless and a testament to their agenda as Rock poseurs. There is a giant fan base and great appreciation for The Moody Blues worldwide. Most all of my friends with diverse tastes rank them as one of the best and most favoured bands. Their were MANY great bands of the 60's and 70's, to say they were the MOST talented and creative is quite silly. They sit comfortably and harmoniously between my Beatles records and my YES records. Later In the 80's we had The FIXx and in the 90's We had Radiohead. Special mention to CSNY, ELP, R.E.M. and the great Neil Diamond and Joni Mitchell - Sandy
Speaking subjectively. I can't disagree. Their music hit deeper and harder into my being than the "fabs" ever did. I loved those "Liverpool brats" the moment they broke through the gates (1964) and invaded the USA, beyond the end, getting shut down on their rooftop. But the Moody's have occupied a much more rarified space in my heart... but people like me aren't as common as all the historians, fans, reporters, documentarians, writers, radio dj's, and screaming girls that have kept those 4 eternally in the spotlight.
And that is for better or for worse.
Underrated? Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
When I listen to this song I think it's my favorite Moody's song.....until I listen to another MB song and then it's my favorite. Such a nice dilemma to have! 😉
How about Ride my SeeSaw 🙂
I love all versions, once they are performed by theMoodyBlues !!! awesome....
rock on lads...happy 71st birthday Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas.
listening to those songs and the memories always brings a smile like that sunshine for the soul
Congratulations on induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Been a fan for over four decades.
It's about time! There is no longer a quality of music like theirs, never will be again!
Certain institutions decided it ripe time to open these schools of music to working class children for a limited periot of time then slammed thed the doors shut.
The Moody Blues were light years ahead of anyone else!
Fan since 1971 from this tune. Saw at Caesars Palace Oct 1991. Awesome show, awesome band!
+Mark Burk Not *just* Las Vegas. The Moodies continue to tour worldwide, as do many other old bands.
old bands?
Every Good Boy Deserves a Favor, My first album ! It began a lifetime of love of this wonderful band !
As well as having a great voice, Justin Hayward is a VERY underrated guitarist.
Brilliant.....
got to be Justin's finest ever song....
dont think he ever topped this one
They haven't dated a bit - I love them as much now as I did in the 60's.
+Carol Astbury Actually they have, but so have we.
Golden days.
Nobody can take them away from us!
Fifty years later, the Moody Blues are still my favorites!!
The most underrated band of all time. They were so far ahead of everyone...they still are. "From the ashes we can build a better day."
50th Anniversary of Days of The Future Past! Front row witness to whole album played last night! Never thought I'd live to see the day since I was 11. 45 years, 10 albums, 4 CDs, 13 concert tickets, 9 t-shirts, and one studded vinyl LP bracelet later, I can honestly say I have derived more guidance and therapy than any shrink or cult I ever followed. All through my entire life (past and present) as a goth. My FaveRave band of all time (listening to Gypsy right now)! Hail to The Blues! Put them in the Hall asap. Please! -s
Underrated guitar solo
Underrated?! Says who?
The Beatles were very good.
But
The Moody Blues were
Stupendously Great!!!
This stuff is too good...beautiful songwriting
Timeless ... perpetual favorite. It doesn't get better than the Moodies.
Justin could snap a g-string with the best of them. Rock on, Moodies.
The haunting lead into an atmospheric song. Great. Love it. Thank you. 01/24
My favorite song of all time since I first heard it at 8 years old and I'm sixty now! Amazing, amazing band and music!!!
I have seen them countless times and hope to see them a lot more....great musicians love them
Absolutely one of their finest, best-composed, hard-rocking best songs ever.
One of the best guitar intros ever.
RIP Graeme Edge...Your music will live on...although there is so much more of your gifts than we'll ever know...
with the fire that is burning!!! MOODY BLUES ARE TIMELESS!!
I am now 66 saw them many times in concert. You are so right about being underrated. Have to put them up there with my Beatles. Justin Hayward forget about it still he is handsome and what a songwriter. Will love them to the day I die
If I had a favorite Moody Blue song, it could be this one.
LYRICS ARE SHEAR POETRY ...... PRETTY GEINIUS
thanks
yes they are cant find music like this anymore!
I can remember their lyrics because they have touched my life in a beautiful way. In concert at the old Philadelphia spectrum was like Justin was singing my life. Go figure that they were not recognized for originality and all around Super talents!
a girl with blue eyes still tears me up !!!
transcending time to the hippie era of peace, love & happiness !!! God, I wanna go back to that time !!!
I could listen to the opening guitar riff a thousand times straight.
The Moody Blues are my favorite band. I have loved them since the late 1960's and I tell you, they deserve every accolade and honor, their work is outstanding, their songwriting skills supreme and their voices in the sky....Godly!
Cafe Esoterica Radio Hostess Shawn Cohen I agree with you, stranger somewhere in the world. Hearing MB's music for the first time many years ago gave me a kind of spinal shock, and it changed my life 🌻
Fantastic version!
The Moody Blues and Jethro Tull should both be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame immediately.
Absolutely right on!!! Other than the Beatles my two favorite groups of all time.
I agree wholeheartedly---2 legendary groups, among my favorites. GUESS WHAT? I GOT A FEVER! AND THE ONLY PRESCRIPTION IS MORE MELLOTRON!
The DCF (Dave Clark Five) got inducted a few years back. Somebody name ONE of their songs that is ANY better than Nights In White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, Ride My Seesaw, I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band, Question, Your Wildest Dreams or I Know You're Out There Somewhere, to name several. The real joke is the scatter-brained way the hall (small h, imo) decides who gets inducted.
Pinder did not use a Mellotron on this particular album. He was playing a Chamberlin, similar to the Mellotron. but different
I always thought this song had a Jethro Tull sound and feel to it vocally and instrumentally. That's why it's always been my favorite Moody Blues song.
