Jenny thank you so much. You will never know how hearing you say, “prune them they will come back” mean to me. I’m in Texas and the hurricane Beryl came through. My fence fell ontop of my hydrangeas. This is minor compared to what others lost. I planted them in my memorial garden bed. After a week I cut them all the way back to the ground along with the angelonia and salvia. Then the rain came. I’m waiting to see them flush back. The whole time I was cutting I kept hearing you say, “they will grow back.” Thanks for the inspiration.

Jenny, you make me smile. I've been whacking away at some of my plants already to make them flush out again. My Zone is 6a, gardens face true South, and with all that sun and protection from cold winds in the Fall I typically have annuals still madly blooming up to November. Without cutting them back they wouldn't do that, so I can attest that pruning/cutting back works wonders and provides me with flowers for a long time. Hope you enjoyed that cold shower. Thanks for sharing.

Good lesson,Jenny! Pruning our drought tolerant/bunny resistant perennials/annuals makes me temporarily sad,but oh,do they resurrect. From videos,I know which ones to leave to self-clean. Very challenging this extremely hot & humid summer in 5a. Some drooping and early bloom finishing,in spite of water-watches,but every year brings its set of challenges as climate change presents! My 2 roses in pots decided to "plan their funerals" in spite of daily attentiveness. 🥴 Live & learn, yes? Your gardens are lovely. Your energy is contagious. Happy rest of summer folks 🌈

Hi Jenny, not surprised you pruned back your roses with the hedge trimmer. Many years ago I lived behind a Rose Nursery and they used to say just use your hedge clippers (no modern hedge trimmers in those days) and whack them back. They will survive and come back better. They always did. Our roses suffer from aphids and scale here and where I live I have possums who love to eat roses so I have to cover them at night. The garden looks great after the pruning. Note to self: Beware my gardening friends in the south (95 to 105 heat) I went out the other day to get some drip set up on some newer plants I put in my garden this spring. Before I knew it I began feeling nausea and exhaustion and I think I was having a heat stroke! I had only been out there about 45 - 50 minutes and had taken several water breaks. I am in new zone 8 Georgia.

Jenny, Your roses are beautiful and after pruning came back better than ever. I really like your decorative glass ornaments that are gorgeous. I bought some flowers, fused glass for the garden but like yours better! Your goatskin gloves must be comfortable and protect you from thorns as you prune. With thick moisture in North Carolina glad you are getting the job done without focusing on every detail. Everything looks very tidy & I'll be sure to remind myself that all types of roses are tough and can take pruning well. Just had a floribunda at one time in front of the house but would like climbers to grow up a trellis. Yes, my trellis was delivered and I can plant the honeysuckle vine I ordered from you. Wow, had to plant in a larger pot because it was growing so fast! Have a nice day & enjoyed your video!
