Collecting samples above Wenatchee, Washington with University of Puget Sound and Central Washington University geology students.
This is the final field trip (and video) for the GEOL 351 class. Thanks everybody!
Hammers striking rock as we fade to black. Ned Zinger 🎥 (Nicely done!!)
The Geo Slasher strikes!
I know, great edit lol.
Twice Emmy award winning Ned Zinger!
I spend 17 seasons as a wildland firefighter. Dug up stuff from Isle Royale to San Diego, Olympic peninsula to New mexico's islands in the sky. Nick, I wish I had this knowledge, It would have made camping for fun and profit much more fun.
11 mins 40, the dog's having a lovely time ! 😺
And for us, it's almost as if we were hiking along with the group.
🇬🇧🌿😊💕🌎🇬🇧🌿😊
Another good video. Olivine at the top of Burch Mountain. Another mystery. Thanks, Nick.
Thank you Nick🌞❤
Geol-351 scores a win... thank you Nick & students... win-win!
Whoohoo! Another field trip, and adakites!
Those rocks...! Yes! And really fun hanging out with you all on Burch Mtn. !!! Thank you! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for taking us along, Nick! And Ariel, you are the definition of a rock hound, dyed in the wool rock hound, just like me. Always looking down at rocks. I just can't help it!
What a great day for a field trip. (Complete with expert commentary.)
Thanks for letting us share.
Loved it Nick and Jeff, Thanks! So interesting to see you at work and how the 3 gals from Jeff's class worked with the 351 crowd.
Watching and listening to Nick gives me so much calm.
Thanks a lot! Great last but not least field trip of GEOL 351! 👌💖❣️
Wow... THANKS NICK you got the vibe for this ..good for you! I’ll miss geo/351 but I’m also sure I have to go thru the whole course several times to “get it” ...maybe. This will keep me busy can’t wait for your next geoventure class..you make this interesting and relevant THANKS AGAIN ...HERES 2 U !
Great recording! I really got a whiff of wild flowers and rock dust. Best moment: When the senior geologist humbly asks if he can include a students find in his study. Great way to conclude this series. Where will you go next? I know I will be checking your website to see!
35:45 "it looks like no cleavage"
I can't believe he said that!
Thanks for taking us Townies along on the field trips.
Lol when the sledgehammer comes out it's time for some "gentle persuasion 😂😂
Had great times on Burch mountain in the 70s. Beautiful views 😊. Growing up in Wenatchee i found the geology very interesting even though i didn't know what i was looking at.
You guys sure have a lot of fun in school. All I seem to remember are things like "I want all these integrals and derivatives memorized! Yes, they'll be on the exam." I get a headache just remembering it.
Love these wonderful enthusiastic, intelligent, and engaged young people!!!
Lucky professor 🙏🥰
When I was doing my thesis field work I had a big ole hand sledge as my default rock hammer. The quartz syenite was about as hard as that first Boulder you all looked at but weathered red on the outside.
THIS IS SO COOOOOOOL! This video reminds me of why I want to hike with geologists more! I was just on this road a few weeks ago - seeing some things - but also knowing I was probably missing cool things too (like adakites along the road). Reminds of me of hiking across Utah a few years ago, on a day of mostly road walking and remarking that there's probably something amazing nearby but we just didn't know to recognize it. Well... a few miles up the road we encountered a college geology field trip with a geologist pointing out a 78MY petrified Redwood in the road cut, wouldn't of known if not for the serendipitous encounter. EVERYWHERE THERE'S SOMETHING TO BE AMAZED ABOUT!
2 series down i guess im 10% armchair geologist considering i look at the rocks in my driveway and ponder how they formed and living in florida i always get stuck thinking about the mass of land that broke off from africa. Such good stuff
Great trip Nick! We just love those kids! They are so lucky to have you for a teacher.
You do such a good job with everything Nick!! The way you film and edit these does give a sense of being there with Jeff, the students, and the magnificent scenery!! Thank you so much!
26:18 "where's Mike Eddy?" 😂 Great sense of humour there.
wow so nice seeing you still enjoying your thang. thank you for sharing and still being playful
Another awesome trip, we love these, cheers.
A fun video. Great students.
Thank you Nick. 😉
I would love to go on one of these field trips. I just checked and it’s only 3085 miles from my house. 46 hours.
Another great video Nick,
Thanks for sharing.
Thx Nick.
Enjoy your summer.
It is great that real teachers with actual useable skills still exist. Your students and us townies are seeing and hearing and learning from your experience in a field that is very useful to mankind. Congratulations Professors Tepper and Zentner. You are true professionals. Who will find rare earth elements in the USA when China throttles the market for the interest of the CCP? Working economic geologist and geochemist that get up and go to work every day!
Man..how fun is that? A field trip into an interesting area on a beautiful day, with a cool group, a couple of legendary geologists, and a dog!!! Doesn't get better than that. Who's dog is it? and what is his/her name?
beautiful. looks just like BC
Yes finally someone from Wenatchee
The rockhound seemed to enjoy it
This is fantastic!
Trade Bijou in for a dog, that way you'll have someone to hike with.
10Ma rocks way up there is part of an eruption / fault area?
The views were fantastic. Students are more vocal each trip.
You can train a cat to walk with you
I would like to see a thin section of that sample with a xenocryst
There is a ringing quality to the rock as they handle the pieces and when they step on the rock. Anyone like to comment on that?
If y'all stuck to the road staying right on top y'all would hit a cliff with a nice out rock cropping, and allows a different perspective of the land. Due West NW of your location.
all I can think about are the sunburns
Cool or well maybe a lil warm.
Life is good.....lupine..balsam arrow root.. and adakites
Online video the Olivine looks like bug crap. Oh to be there in person!
❤
What's this rock?!
Look at the outcrops. I would not get very far with all the outcrops.
@ the 35:45 time mark the Tepper Comment was timed at an awkward moment.
Awkward, but very charming.
Curious: why does no one use a center punch or cold chisel? It's always just the rock hammer.
One more thing to drop down the basalt columns...
Also, I suppose you don‘t weant to coerce the rock to cleave a certain way.
Nick Harry back my husband is going through some serious withdrawals 🙁
rock hounds
Monsieur Zentner vis dese field videos (strike Ferrero Rocher) you are really spoiling uz ...
Who travelled this road before today?
Why?
burch mountain just burned down.
Has she got a map of Oregon and Washington tattooed on her thigh? That's comittment!
