43 years ago, on December 8, 1980, John Lennon was assassinated in front of the famous "Dakota" building where he lived with his wife, Yoko Ono. She still lives there today. Each year, fans gather around the Imagine memorial at Strawberry Fields in NYC to honor the legend. We were there and even had the chance to talk to a John Lennon impersonator! What a terrible loss! How we miss John every day. I went years ago on this sad day so I could pay my respects. It was the year Yoko showed up. I did have a special connection with her. Took many photos of Imagine. One photo is in the Smithsonian another in a book. Thank You! Everyone for keeping positive memories alive!
His spirit is still with us.

Was in New York couple of weeks ago and visited Dakota building and Strawberry Fields, so moving. Even went back on last night to have moment of silence at Dakota archway. Wish I’d been there today. James from uk 🇬🇧

He would be 83 years old if he was still with us. 'Imagine' all the music he would have created.
He would have died from cancer before George did. He was a serious chain smoker and looked 60 years old at 40. Smoking had aged him terribly.
I am afraid the heavy drinking during his lost weekend had taken its effect on his appearance, ditto regarding his heavy drug taking.
I was there last Friday, I wish I could have been there today! Thanks for the wonderful music. Rest in peace John❤
Lenn Johnston, the time traveling John Lennon. Met him, he's a pretty cool dude. We both have performed in Beatles tribute bands. Funny how his name is kind of an anagram for John Lennon.

I went to the first vigil. I will never forget that experience. Every year on this day, I play John Lennon songs. I was looking for a video and I found yours. Thank so much for this video . I felt like I was there. It brought back good memories living in NYC. Happy Holidays

I'll never forget the night John was shot.
The breaking news travelled around the World like a speeding bullet.
I was in Vancouver Canada at the time and in the middle of a phone call with my Son's to be, father when the news hit the bar TV's.
He was playing with his band, Stand and Deliver, up in a Bar in Smithers B.C. and were about to start playing when the new swept across the bar.
People were crying and in utter disbelief
I remember hanging up the phone.
It felt like at the end of Beatles song "A day in the Life" sounds, with all the instruments reaching a pinnacle and the colliding in my head and my mind faded to dark as I fell to the floor like a calliope crashing to the ground and I Burst into tears on the kitchen floor!
I wanted to go out, to downtown at the Square where people were gathering.
But it was late and time for my daughter to head for bed!
So I switched on the radio to listen to the DJ fight back tears as he played Beatles songs all night.
I don't think anyone really believe anyone would or COULD SHOOT JOHN LENNON!?
He was the embodiment of PEACE AND LOVE!
IT'S on my bucket list to make it to the Strawberry Fields park on this December 8th anniversary to honour and celebrate a man and band who truly touched my generation and clearly has continued to touch many more generations that have followed mine!
Bless your heart and Soul for making and sharing this memorable day on video!

I still can't believe he left the earth that way, it still infuriates me, and I will always miss him. It's like Elton John sang..."It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain". Sadly, for all of us, there have always been too many of those "insects" walking the earth, including today.
It angers many people particularly in his home city of Liverpool, it was so unnecessary and cruel. A chance for somebody who never achieved anything in their life to finally be noticed "a nobody who wanted to be a somebody"

I was at the gathering for his 70th birthday, I got a tattoo the day before because my son w/Autism LOVES the Beatles and his name is John. The artist designed it. "We all shine on with the moon, sun, and stars and under it it says, "For John" R.I.P John. OINY, John Lennon Loved NYC!!!

Was in New York when horrific news broke while walking back to the Roosevelt Hotel .Saw Bowie in the Elephant Man that night. Hung around the theater with my cousin in the hopes to get Bowies autograph. No luck but one hell of a performance. Back at the hotel the news broke. Riding back to Boston via Amtrak in shock. Hopefully Bowie and Lennon are together watching over us.❤

I remember driving home from work after 2am and on the radio they said the'Late' John Lennon, I stomped on my brakes and just sat there trying to take in what I just heard.I cried.😢

I was in the city that night. When you were born in New York City and we refer to the city, it only means one city and that's New York on December 8th 1980, it was a Monday. They were lighting the tree at Rockefeller Center. My husband and I were there with our little boy who was not quite 3 years old. My son was sitting on my husband's shoulders as they let the tree. Shortly afterwards we heard police cars. My husband asked an NYPD officer what was going on. He told us that John Lennon had been shot. I remember wishing there was something I could do. It was an exceptionally sad day in New York City

I was only 15 when John Lennon was assassinated in December 1980, & I was only 36 when George Harrison passed away from Lung Cancer in November 2001. Now, the only remaining members of the Beatles still alive are James Paul MacCartney, vocals, piano & guitar, Pete Best who was replaced by drummer Richard Starkey aka Ringo Starr
His death was a huge loss for so many people and senseless
I believe he and Paul would be making some amazing music together. Always love you❤️🥹

I did not always agree with John but, I still have and enjoy his music. I always enjoyed and miss his quirkiness. True musician and still a true tragedy. John fought so hard to live in New York and when all the legality finally came through. John is murdered. Still tragic, 43 years later. Beautiful tribute

I knew of the date and assumed that there would be a remembrance held.
But it's sad the local media dud not say anything about it. Not even to recall Lennon's death.
