- "СМУТА" is an adventure game from Russian developers, based on the historical novel “Yuri Miloslavsky, or the Russians in 1612” by Mikhail Zagoskin. The creators were so reluctant to reveal important details that some gamers doubted the existence of the project until the very end. And in some ways they were right. It was reported that the organization allocated two grants totaling approximately 500 million rubles for "СМУТА"

Actually just read in russian article that the government spent close to a bilion rubbles, which is roughly 11 mln USD. For 11 mln in UE5 in should be in a much better state. So I'd say the half of the budget was stolen.
Bro Budget of witcher 3 was over 67 mil. USD. Cyberpunk over 300 mil or so and it was at the begninning buggy a.f. and they scaled und upgraded the game just in years after release. This one 5 mil... duuuude. Let's see how they'll develop in next games.

The character models and the enviroments are pretty well made, but I have no idea about the gameplay and game it self.
I was only able to find one review in Russian that included english subtitles, and the conclusions weren't that good, unfortunately.
THe reviewer said that the Ai is broken and the quests are not good.
The game was made on Russian government money, by the special department that finances mostly propaganda. The main story is meh and the protagonist is dumb. Side quests are even worse though. The dialogues are full of things like all Europeans are just gays and trans back there in the West etc. Gameplaywise the game is total disaster: Claiming to be open-world it really isn't as invisible walls block your way pretty much anywhere if you try to swerve from the pass. There is not inventory and loot system (apart from some charms you can stick into slots and few kind of attires you can switch too as you progress). You can't for example find something and sell it to the trader to buy better weapons or equipment. There simply isn't any kind of trading in the game. The character can not jump or swim and he can't go inside any of the buildings (apart from some scripted events in the story). The world is completely devoid of anything you can interact with. Only thing is buckets of water you can drink from, which doesn't do anything. NPCs don't have any kind of routine and all of them stay precisely where they are rooted, having one line of dialogue repeated again and again and again as long as you stand by them. There is no day and night cycle. The night changes day whenever it's appropriate for the quest. When there is a fight after the dialogue with NPC the fight actually starts before the game gives you a control of your character, so you're basically screwed if the enemy catches you in the stun lock (which happens a lot). Cutscenes doesn't make sense at all too. For example they show you being ambushed by wolves and dropped down your horse but when the game resumes you're nowhere near the horse and there are no wolves, instead you will fight a bear and save a guy who is bloodies one moment but completely fine looking when he starts dialogue with you.
And that's just 1% of problems with this game
Definitely a good looking game, the animation could be better, the lip-sync needs an upgrade.
Other than that this is 7/10 and rather well done.
Well looks like standard indie game. Low performance and no optimalization. Like Polish The Inqusitor. I thought the work of Russian propaganda would be done on a grand scale. Maybe some of the budget evaporated on the way to the creators. Since it had government funding that's even likely. Not only in Russia. I would play it out of Curiosity. Probably no Polish language version 😅.

It looks amazing in many ways. The dialogues, but mostly the setting and the overall artstyle...17th century is SO UNDERDONE, and especially so in Muscovite Tsardom. Looks really historically accurate
it looks historically enough until you get to some kind of swamp with cannibals and for some reason there is main character from the future, that joined poland. I dont think kids learn that at school
I wish we could get more similar games to be honest:) I am still waiting for an Assassin’s Creed set during ancient Japan

And I wish they will fix everything and we can enjoy nice old Russian setting:) for now it is more like visiting museum where you can look at something but you cannot even touch it …

Graphics on the first part reminds me of Red Dead Redemption 2 lol combat animation surely needs some work though.
They had only 5 million budget compared to probably RDR2 200 million :)

As a non-russian,i really hope this game will get some patches and maybe even a worldwide realease in the future,the concept is solid and it would be a shame for it to stay a mess like this.

No way. This game cant compete with witcher 3 or even dying light(2015). Russians maybe have good modders community, but game development is still in medieval. Edit: Damm it looks worst then Fallout 3(2008) Xd.
As russian i say, what i don't like this game. I was waiting for this game in 2022 when it was announced. But in december 2023 i stopped waiting for this game.
As a Russian I was still curious to see how bad this game will be :)
