Thank you for this video! I used the proceedure on my Chevy BOLT and although the specific options are different I am finaly able to drive. The car was in a collision and now I can work on the bodywork.
I have an older autel and did exactly on ur video and my Copart volt worked as it should thank u very much my autel paid for it self

I tried scan an ev 201t chevy spark woth the Mac mdt10 scan tool and it would not work and look different than this one is it the wrong scan tool. My online research say I need a mdi scanner?

The Modern Mechanic : Thank you for a great video. I have one question : I have a 2012 Chevy volt was in an accident and stopped charging. The dealer wont's to rip me off big time to clear the crash data. The scanner you are using is very expensive can I use a cheaper scanner to clear the crash data (i.e. Autel Maxicheck Pro $ 175.00)?
Nat Shain i believe the maxicheck pro should work but I’ve never used one of those so I can’t tell you for sure. You can contact autel and they should be able to let you know, their support is great give them a call.
You can also mail your computer to repair service on ebay, i have had really good experience and they charge around $60 for it.
What scanning tool are you using?
Mine was involved in a front end collision and will not start. Says initializing, any ideas? I did a reset but it was with a Bluetooth scanner so I am not sure if I need to have it done with a scanner like this one in the video.
Just resetting the codes is not enough. You need a more advanced scanner like this one.
This looks super similar to GM's GDS2 that i have on my laptop cracked and works with VCXnano dongle thanks!

It is a little different but yes. Same concept. It should work on a bolt.
My wife car got into a minor accident on the freeway. Chevy bolt wont start. Now the car in the tow yard. What do you think is the best course of action? I don’t have the scanner. Is there a car unlocking services?

Help! I replaced the radiators in the front end & had to remove the whole bumper. NOW with the bumper plugged back in the car won't fully start... It comes on but the AC does not get cold and it won't do anything when I hit the gas pedal. (btw My instrument dash has not worked for a while.) Unplugged both batteries 10 minutes, still the same thing. Any idea why it won't move?
Melanie Gough is the 12 Volt battery dead? Try jump starting it
@The Modern Mechanic yes the battery is charged, the car still comes on, I think it's stuck in some kind of service mode, so everything works except moving. Tried all the tricks to get out of the service mode but no luck. Guess I'll have to wait until I get that new dash screen to see what it's trying to tell me 😂 Thanks for replying!

I was trying to delete the accident codes in my Volt after changing the brakes. The process got interrupted and now my car is without power. Resetting the 12 volt battery and pulling the ECU fuse does nothing. What do I do?
Sounds like the 12 volt battery is dead. Have you tried putting a jumper on it?
@@themodernmechanic428 It worked! I put the jumper on it at 50 amps and then it let me recharge the battery. Now I just have to clear the Stabilitrack and Brake Assist codes.

Where is the car? Is it at your home. Obviously it’s not drivable right so you would have to tow it somewhere?
I have a wrecked 2017 Equinox and it won’t run. It starts but dies immediately, is this because of the same issue kinda with that volt? I’ve disconnected battery and all that but nothing is working
No, your problem is totally different. Equinox is not and EV. Also this volt wouldn’t Turn on at all.
@@themodernmechanic428 oh okay, wasn’t sure if it was something similar or not. By chance would you know if my problem would be caused by a hard code in the airbag module? Don’t normally have this problem
@@midnightmechanic1293 i don’t think the airbag module code would affect it. You should check all fuses and also test the fuel pump. Best of luck.

Try a bodyshop. Most of them have a scanner capable of doing this and they will charge half the price of the dealership.

So without this scanner I won't be able to start my 2018 Chevy Malibu that had the airbags deployed all because of someone backing into the front of my car???
Yes, unfortunately chevy does that as a safety in case the accident caused damage to the high voltage system and possibly cause a fire.

Does this work for regular gas cars?
No, only on the hybrids from Chevy.
Some times on regular gas cars they have a fuse that blows, my gl320 had one like that it had airbag detonator (micro version) that detonation is strong enough to savor the main power cable. Was hard to find it though.

The scanner I use in this video is an autel Maxisys which is about $3,000 but I know autel makes cheaper scanners which start about $500 however I wouldn’t be able to tell you if those scanners can do this but you can contact autel support and they can tell you if they do.

You should get a hold of a scanner or find someone that has one and scan it to see what codes it gives you.

Are you kidding me? That scanner costs over $1000?? Unless you’re using a family member or friends who’s already has one because they’re already a mechanic I seriously doubt spending over a $1000 on a tool that may or may not fix the issue with happening with your car I very skeptical that that kinda of investment in a tool yiu might only use once maybe twice would ever come close to being worth it in the long run, it is a wouldnt pay itself off.
Just but a GDS2 module for about 120 bucks. Does all this and more.
