Metal and wood scissor lift table - Industrial style coffee table

- In this weeks video I took a design used in industrial products and converted it to a piece of furniture.
The mechanism of scissor lift tables fascinate me because it’s both simple and sophisticated at the same time. Converting this to a piece that fits my other metal and wood furniture turned out to be a nice project.
The build of this scissor lift table allowed me to use various processes and combine them. I turned some steel axles on the lathe that I later welded to the metal frames. This was the first time that I turned something and then welded it.
This was not the only ‘first’ in this build for me. Turning the wooden wheels on the lathe was something I had never done before and also the glue-up of the tabletop was something I had only seen others do.
The glue up was a bit challenging for me, not only because I had never done it before but also because my toolkit and space are not setup for things like this. In the end it worked out really well and I’m very pleased with the result.

For glue ups like that, you can use a large, flat piece of wood add some rails and use wedges to apply pressure. Hope this is a useful suggestion. Love the video.
Best lifting table, shot perfectly 👍 👍 👍 👏 👏
Amazing table 👍🏼
Brilliant and really well done 👍
I love being able to combine working with my woodworking tools and my everlast welder.
Yeah, that's sweet! It's nice to combine techniques

Amazing project good sir.
Thanks!
Ratcheting nylon cargo straps are good for clamping wide glue ups, like this one.
Nice work
That miter saw stand is genius!
Thanks! The removable table system saves a lot of space.
Finally a good tutorial.
Thank you!

wow, you are very talented. I thought about attempting it but I've changed my mind.
Very nice! I had the same issue with the Evolution mitre saw going blunt after around 20 cuts in 20x20x2 angle iron. I bought a second blade, and we'll see how it goes, but I don't think it's quite up to it.
I think so too. Probably more for the occasional piece of metal. I got rid of mine because this was the main reason why I bought it
Good job bro
Thanks!
Thank you very much.
WOOOW YOU ARE SO GOOOD
CONTINUE DOING THIS BRO
Thanks! Glad to hear. I will definitely continue!
Nice Keep it up.
Thanks! I will! Already have some cool ideas for 2019

Feliz navidad!!! O Merry chrismas!!!
Happy holidays to you too!
:)
Excellent achievement I am inspired thank you.
I must soon make a large metalwork table adjustable in height over 4 meters in length with 4x directional wheels.
Do you think with a 50x50x3mm alunimuim tube or the 80x40x2mm can be enough?
Te quedo Chido te mereses mi like espero que llegues a 18,000 sub
¡Gracias! Yo tambien lo espero :)
Good job Emiel!
PD: where are you from?
Thanks! I'm from The Netherlands
Hi! Do you think I could build one for dinner table purpose? That I could then convert to work plan. Thanks!
Fijne kerst!
Dankje! jij ook!
Buen video 👍
Very crhistmas
¡Gracias! ¡Felices fiestas para ti también! (translated)
I want your lathe turner machine it's beautiful 😎
How did you fix the brass bush to the metal sections? Using 2 short screws?
Yes, I used two short m10 or m8 bolts for that. It doesn't turn a lot so a bearing wasn't really needed
That would make a nice transmission jack.
sure would, maybe change the wheels and the tabletop for that though ;)
I was just implying that the design would work. Not your piece of furniture...
I made it by myself thanks to woodprx.
Praat gwn nederlands 😎
Nee
Good design When legs cross they meet the table corners, table not hanging over part of it, like many CZcamsrs show how to scissor lift, part of the table has nothing under. Good luck April 2021
I want to know the dimensions of all parts to draw it in solidworks for my project .
I do not have all the dimensions drawn out or a plan unfortunately. The table top is 650 x 500 mm. If you draw it in solidworks its fairly easy to lay out the lengths of the legs
hello very god vidio
Thanks!
ok
thank and you
PLEASE tell me you didn't used a wood cutting disc to cut metal?!
+Joseph Montero haha no, it says its suitable for steel as well.. :(
Metal cutting blades should turn at a much lower speed than miter saw is the problem, I've made same mistake

Nicely. Done ! I do want to bust your chops a little bit because you were wearing a full face shield but didnt have it over you face ? I spent over 20 years in the Woodworking and Machine shops with both hands on. And management of a crew of over 40 experienced Craftsman not only having but properly wearing the safety gear is really important part of my job was picking up guys from the hospital and getting them home everytime someone got. Hurt they all said the same thing when. It happened it happened so fast or after it happened they couldnt beleive that it just happened to them ? I am not necessarily a know it all. But i did have to carry the OSHA safety card for one of the companies i ran So buying the correct. Gear for the employees was. Essential therefore i wanted to point out to you that you too should be aware of pulling that shield down to protect most importantly your eyes God only. Gave us one set for our entire life i did enjoy the scissor lift a great deal mostly because of the high quality of the one you made and that any decent one available to purchase commercially are super expensive to buy and ive concluded a long time ago. My next. Shop will definitely have one as ive suffered. Physical injuries that. Limits my lifting capacity so ive been looking out for one that may have some portability. Or a way of adapting it to have some Incidentally the. Ones ive seen for sale that do have castors i dont think would roll very well with a load on it. And honestly when fabricating with wood or metal Most things are. Heavy loads
Hey Craig, You are completely right about the face Shield. When grinding etc I usually just use the normal safety glasses but with this saw I normally always use the face mask because it slings metal everywhere. Not sure why I didn't do it this time.. Anyway, the saw was hell to work with for metal so I got rid of it.
The scissor lift tables are awesome to work on! This one is more for the looks though
Intersting a good idea ... GIVE ME ALL THE UNITS RIGHT NOW
Thanks! What units?
@@Thepracticalengineer oh yea i dont think is one in all the world ....
the table has a serious case of the weeble wobbles.
It's not so bad, but I like the term: weeble wobbles

give me full dimensions of this table

cuanto pesa? cuanto peso soporta?

Once you get metal and a welding torch out I have leave cos you are a professional not really DIY
My welding is nowhere close to professional 😯
Welding is not as hard as it seems to get started. You should give it a try at some point
Cool
Thanks!
