    In Malaysia
    The more Sweet one, we call it Salak (commercialized)
    The more Sour one, we call it Kelubi (in the wild forest)
    Both tree and fruit look kinda the same, but they are not. Both taste great for Jeruk(pickles), and both can be eaten raw just like that too. I love both anyway.

      Kat tempat saya kelubi asam paya. Salak ni ada 2 jenis yg Manis salak madu, salak yg masam salak hutan. Sama rupa dgn salak madu cuma buahnye kecik panjang dan testurnye agak berair

    Its called salak in Malay...it been 30 more years since I last taste it in the wild...it grows commercially now especially in Indonesia and Malaysia.. English name is snake fruit..

      That's not salak fruit its kind of snake fruits but not salak. Its sour test different with salak. We got this fruit here in Sarawak.

    It's sour, but tasty. But as someone from SEA too, do be careful when picking up that fruit. There have been some cases where black venomous snake appear around that tree. By the way, Polin beautiful as always.

    I hope you didn't cut the vine because it's the one that bare fruit for another year,! But I love that fruit, it's snake fruit but in my hometown here in philippines we often eat it with salt and chili, so Delicious.

    Its a snake fruit, isn't it? This can be crispy and sweet but can also be astringent when not quite ripe. These are not wild fruit but are usually planted. There are a lot in Indonesia during season.

    This clip reminds me of my childhood. Because my house is near the mountain and there is a lot of this fruit. Its taste is sour and sweet. In a year, it bears fruit only once.

    i went to Malaysia early this year, and bought the Salak and keep the seeds, now I am back to the US. Try to grow it here in Texas, but wait and wait and the seeds are still not sprout . Just need to wait

    Salak fruits are of a few different flavors. Some are very sour, some sweet sour and some sweet. It's a great fruit for eating raw as well as a natural flavouring in some curry dishes. Great fruits. Only thing is the fruits are spiky and one needs to be careful when peeling off the skins

    In Burma we have the same as well...! In Burmese we called it "Yin Ngann Thee" we used to eat with chili powder & salt, because it's quite a bit sour ;) But vey tasty smell too good (Y) :)
