    You can call it what you like; we have seen it all before because mistakes happen. It is a "Sport" and a Sportsperson-like attitude is above ALL the First and Last in it. Charlie Enright is a Sportsman and there is NO GREATER HONOUR. Anyone can win by luck or by centimeters but it takes a special person to accept mishaps and still shake hands from an honest apology. GO 11TH HOUR You got this!!!

    After viewing this clip, from the moment of assessment to calling for water the time needed to escape had diminished very rapidly and then it all becomes slow motion.
    The closest boat is the closest danger and both need to be watching out and clearly Guyot needed to go down and 11th Hour go up to avoid a collision and then sort out the protest later - in hindsight we’re all great judges but what we miss is the mental pressure that is present during this in-port part of the race and it’s so easy to be diverted onto something else and miss the most obvious in front of you.
    Hopefully 11th Hour can be repaired very rapidly, the delay will be waiting for the resins to dry as there’s enough shore crew available to make the repairs and they can rejoin the race and collect points from passing over the finish line.
    🙏🙏👏👏🤩🤩😍😍⛵️⛵️

Obviously....I know this has got to hurt like crazy.....(considering how close you were. finally). And while a win would certainly have been inspiring and reason to celebrate....so is your teams continued resilience, participation, and perseverence ..... through what is starting to look some sort of fate. While winning is a challenging feat to accomplish, it's an easy burden to bear. But you guys do shine....through all the difficulties and disappointments that seem to be repeatedly inflicting themselves upon y'all. Big ups! Big cheers. @@n1c3s43 That tragic VOR 2018 accident, apart from happening on water between two boats, is incomparable with last week’s bright clear daytime in-port race collision between two race competitors. The 2018 collision occurred in the middle of the night (0120 local) between the *Vestas 11th Hour Racing boat and a local fishing boat in notoriously busy Hong Kong waters, and amidst what Franck Cammas (then sailing with Dongfeng) referred to as “countless” fishing vessels - many with no running lights. *Charlie Enright was not onboard at the time of the 2018 fatal collision.

      This isnt F1, it's sailing, and honor still means something. I'm American, and pulling for 11th hour, despite the fact that Kevin E is my favorite skipper. It was an incredidbly unfortunate mistake, but to imply that it was intentional is nonsense.

    • @barendgarvelink
      @barendgarvelink Před rokem +3

      Absurd. Imagine what would have had to happen for that to be true. They didn’t adjust course at all, so if it had been intentional they would have had it lined up before 11th hour tacked. That would have meant having from half a mile away picked the exact timing to hit an 18 meter target traveling across their bow at somewhere around 6 to 10 meters per second, for a collision window of 2-3 seconds. Without knowing the exact moment 11th hour would tack, with inexact/unpredictable boat speed on both vessels.
      The alternative explanation is that four sailors with assigned roles were working their asses off in stressful conditions at high boat speeds, and in the moment all failed to check the blind spot behind the sails. Yes, they effed up, responsibility for the crash is clear cut and Guyot where the first to accept it. No, they did not do a hit.
      If there’s any valid criticism in any of this, it’s for the race organizers putting a round-the-cans element into an event that’s arguably not suited for it. Then again, the Vendée Globe 2020 were halfway around the planet yet somehow had five boats within sight of each other. Accidents happen. Let’s just be happy no persons got seriously injured.

  • @Pelican5077
    @Pelican5077 Před rokem +4

    That is absolute bullshit. 11th hour clearly had ROW. For an alleged “professional” skipper to cause that crash is not only inexcusable, he should be banned from racing for years. They stole a likely victory from 11th hour.
    I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. And again. The IMOCA boats were the wrong choice for this race. Multiple demastings in what we call moderate conditions on the Great Lakes. Hull delaminations. Broken rudders. The list is endless.
    And this sailing from inside a cocoon is not sailing. It’s just asking for trouble. With skipper, navigator and crew on deck, this collision would never have occurred. That’s not to excuse the disaster for which Detreux is responsible. The dead last boat in the race that had major issues every leg. And in the end they screwed or up for everyone.
    In the end, this can only be blamed on the skipper and crew of GUyot. But the race organizers need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Because the real culprits will be starring them right back in the face.
