Clear conscience instructions very easy to follow, I like to twist the line going through the crimps so the loops are pointing upwards it increases the chances of snagging the crab upon retrieval ATB Spam.

How prone are these to rusting? I asume the fencing is galvanized. Do you find razor clams or squid to be more effective as bait? Do you happen to know if there is someone in line for when Dan Ayres retires? The regulations may be burdensome but I think Washington has done a much better job than Oregon ensuring shellfish resources will be around for future generations. Dan Ayres seems to be a big part of that conservation minded effort.
I rinse mine off in freshwater after each use in the salt so I don't really see them rusting, but I'm only using them for a season usually. The copper will develop a patina eventually, but at that point you'll probably want to replace the trimmer lines anyway as they start to lose their spring-back after a few months. Yes, the fencing is galvanized. I use both razor clams and squid and they've both worked great. I've heard from commercial crabbers that they like to include a jar of razor clams. I usually just try to include a variety in my snare: herring/mackerel/tuna + squid/razor clams. I don't know the plans for Dan Ayres position when he retires, but hopefully he sticks around for a while longer :) The regulations are never simple, but the complexity allows for the maximum use and enjoyment while still fulfilling legal obligations and conservation/future-minded harvest goals. They can't always get it right, but I've always been impressed with the way the shellfish managers in WA have dealt with adaptive management and responded to challenges based on the best science available at the time while making efforts to get more information to help better inform decisions so we can have these fisheries for years to come. Despite all the politics, we do live in a land of abundant opportunities here. For which I am very appreciative. I hope you get some good (shell)fishing in soon :)
The snare loops work fine really any way you attach them. If you have them angled up they might be slightly more effective though. I just use them whatever way they settle and catch plenty of crab so I don't think it really matters too much lol :)

Question for you.... I noticed you're using copper crimps (or are they just copper colored) doesn't copper corrode quickly when in salt water ?

I would only pay that amount for 1/2"x1/2" with lead weight embedded and mason mono loops.
