  • How I learned to juggle fire in seven days.
Whilst clearing out my wardrobe, I found my old juggling clubs. I have had them since I was a teenager and there was obviously a reason why I hadn’t thrown them away. I decided to embrace my inner-child and re-learn how to juggle with these clubs in seven days.
In order to make things a bit more interesting and to make me focus my learning, I decided that I would attempt to juggle three fire sticks at the end of the week.
This video documents my week as I battle through the inevitable frustration and boredom of rapid skill acquisition.
I decided to learn in short, intense bursts of twenty minutes, where I would give the juggling practice my full attention. I practiced for up to two or three hours a day, but this spread across the whole day.
The learning curve was steep, but juggling three balls came back to me pretty quickly. Juggling clubs was another matter all together. But with perseverance I got back to a similar standard I was at when I was a teenager.
Then came the psychological battle of juggling fire. All the learning and practice I had undertaken couldn’t have prepared me for what lay in wait at the end of my seven days.
Re-learning or re-acquainting myself with an old skill has been an incredible experience. Juggling is a useless, non-transferable skill, but it is for this reason that I love it. Immersing myself back into this world was a joyous reminder of my happy childhood.
This whole experience has been a timely reminder that our inner child sometimes wants to come out and play. And embracing this is often the very best thing we can do.

    Nice Video!
It is interesting that when you wake up the next day, you see that the accuracy of juggling movement has increased!

Thank you very much! Yes, it's quite a boring process because it's really hard to notice any improvement being made. It's not until you reflect on where you were one or two days ago that you understand the process is working! Patience is key.

Hi Bill! Many thanks for your comment. I really appreciate that! Making this video really encouraged me to keep going with the juggling and it’s something I still really enjoy doing. I do think that maybe the fire sticks was just a one off for me, but I had fun doing it! You should definitely give it a go if you’re feeling confident. Thanks again 🙂

This is awesome. I dropped a like on your video. I started juggling in 2009. After I saw my mother's ex and the busker's juggle, I was determined to become a juggler myself. I've been a juggler for 14 years now. Learned how to juggle balls first, then rings, then clubs and then in 2017, I juggled fire for the first time. It's one thing to watch someone juggle fire but it's a totally different feeling when you're doing it yourself and the fire is spinning right in front of you. It's intimidating, it's intense and it feels freaking awesome. That's one thing I'm proud of myself for achieving. Never thought that when I was watching the fire jugglers at the buskers that I would attempt to do it one day. Great job. I really enjoyed this. I took a break from juggling for a bit but it's something I'm getting back into. I picked up my juggling balls last night and started juggling out of the blue and it reminded me of why I started juggling. It's so much damn fun to do. If it's nice tomorrow, I might do the torches for a bit. Haven't juggled those in awhile.

    It ain't a useless skill.
Ya only think that cos you haven't worked out how important it is to stay in the present moment :)
    The moment is everything!
Nice work doing it in 7 days, don't stop, make a pattern, break a pattern, make a pattern ...
    Top tip - Epigenetics!

    • @Swiftfilmsuk
      @Swiftfilmsuk  Před 2 lety +1

Very good point! I guess it does help you stay in the moment. It also improves hand eye co-ordination and building up to juggling fire helps with believing in yourself and overcoming obstacles etc.

    • @fwap4273
      @fwap4273 Před 2 lety

@@Swiftfilmsuk Oh the list is endless, overcoming obstacles is another big one yep! Well you're reprogramming your subconscious to just accept failure, bend down with a smile on your face :) pick it up carry on, and repeat, amd repeat, eventually you don't even see it as failure.
Four balls gives ya more control over ya eyesight, allows you to change your dominant eye, cos each eye has to consciously watch the corresponding hand, so it opens up your peripheral vision, that one really sent me off on one :)
I started juggling about 30 years ago and moved into martial arts (still juggle now though)
Mainly JKD, Wing Chun and Escrima/Kali, because those three mainly (should) concentrate on making the left side exactly the same as the right, and obviously this has a profound effect on brain activity. It was never about the fighing for me, it was about the journey and balance.
I suppose a massive turning point for me was when I started reseaching Epigenetics while my wife was studying for her neuroscience degree.
(Big subject of interest in our house)
Did you know the majority of people spend 90 - 95% of their day running on unconscious programmes that were absorbed before we were about 6 years old through copying from parents etc, that's why people turn into their parents and spend their lives going round and round in circles.

      czcams.com/video/VNvEAkZSBEU/video.html
Reduce the amount of time you're running on 'robot self' by training your mind to stay in the moment, (you are not your mind) hence why a Zen master hits his student on the head while shouting 'Awaken' when he's meditating.
      Be in the moment!
Sitting meditaion never really worked for me, but active meditation, oh YES!
I could waffle about this for days, well I do :)
For me the results from training the mind to only focus on what I'm doing was the golden key that fits the golden lock to the golden door.
And it all began from the moment I picked up three silly little balls that at the time ment nothing to me!
Oh did ya know they've used juggling to successfully help some heroin addicts, wonder how that worked then :)
Oh and I got rid of my TV 30 yearrs ago aswell, flickering pictures hypnotize, and I refuse to alow anything else to programme my unconscious.
      Thanks for the repy, peace.

Thank you so much! It sounds like you are the perfect age to start learning to juggle with clubs. It can be quite frustrating at first but keep practicing the basics over and over and I'm sure will get there quickly! As you will have seen in the video, I spent an awful lot of time just throwing one club from hand to hand. This was far and away the most important thing to do. Once your throw becomes perfect, then try start to introduce more than one. I wish you lots and lots of luck and do let us know how you get on! 🙂

I don’t really know the best way to do this, but I know that I practiced for hours with just one juggling club - over and over just throwing one club from one hand to another and trying to get the throw consistent and accurate. Then I introduced a second club and then a third one. I did the same with the torches (unlit) - over and over until I felt consistent and accurate. Only then did I proceed to lighting them. I condensed this process into seven days with intense practice sessions but it can probably take many weeks.

@@Swiftfilmsuk I know when you were 14 you got your clubs. When I was 14 my parents (on a whim) bought me a razor scooter around the time they came into the market and very popular. Never once did I ever get on it and ride, infact I was adamant they return it and agreed too but never did . Today at 36 years old I occasionally wonder if it's still at my parents house in its original box. I guess it's true like you said sometimes we all have an inner child that wants to come out and play. For years I forgot that my parents bought me the razor scooter but then something kicks in and I remember had one that I never rode
