  • Join Richard Kind and Barry Bostwick (Spin City) as they trek through Disney's California Adventure theme park to find the (then) Disney CEO Michael Eisner, but two bumbling security guards ("Whose Line Is It Anyway's" Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood) are right on their tail to apprehend them. A whole slew of movie and TV stars accompany the journey as Richard and Barry discover their own "California Adventure".
    This program aired January 2001 on ABC; one month before the opening of the park.

    DCA is probably the most unique out of Disney's theme parks in that it has changed more drastically within a single decade than any other!

    I love how Richard and Barry not only walked into the California Screamin queue, probably waited about 10-25 minutes and then got onto the actual coaster train without knowing or deducing that it could possibly be a Rollercoaster. And also the Cast member didn't even correct them when they thought it was a shuttle. She knowingly subjected them to it.

      @bluedragon9925 Před 6 lety +2

      Eisner actually did do a pretty good job as Disney's CEO during his first 10 years in the position (1984-1994). It wasn't until shortly after Frank Wells (Disney's President during that time) died around the release of The Lion King that Eisner started to let the power go to his head and most of the more infamous decisions that Disney made under his leadership (such as building this very park on a laughably low by Disney standards budget) started occurring.

    Eisner was a fool when the mid-to-late 2000s came in. I used to think he was a good guy growing up, especially when California Adventure first opened in 2001, but when he made a foolish decision on trying to get rid of Pixar completely from Disney (claiming Disney doesn't need Pixar to make great animated films and that they can do CG on their own), he became a lost cause to me. Glad Bob Iger replaced him and had the studio buy Pixar in 2006. I trust him.

    Such a low budget park at that time. All movie attractions and way too many eateries and no night time show When they updated the park in 2012 was what it should have been at opening

      ***** I know about the premise but the premise was flawed. First mistake, they built the park on the cheap. 1.5 billion which included the park, downtown disney as well as the hotel ,Compare that to world of color,mermaid, and Carsland which was made for about the same amount..Second,they had too many movie attractions,as well as restaurants, this might have worked in orlando but with Disneyland being mostly locals those attractions were a one time shot. Three. No night time entertainment. The park emptied out at dusk. Fourth no disney characters when park first opened. Fifth not enough family attractions .Six bad leadership and they continued to build cheap attractions,(this also included disneyland) Bugs land,extreme sports,concert series,rocket rods, closing the subs,closing space mountain, Big thunder accident (Paul pressler has stated "if it is good enough for magic mountain it is good enough for Disneyland" Not cool!!) and having the tiki room fall apart as well as having the haunted mansion in dis-repair. Things started to turn around in 2004 when Mr. Lassester came aboard and held the accountants liable for new attractions, and maintenance. When they were going to cut the budget for radiator racers John said" are you going to be at the exit explaining why this ride is no good?) When i first went to DCA it was charming and I did like it but after seeing what they could have done in the first place I am glad for the changes

      ***** Well there are still California theme areas in DCA. Hollywood Land (Forgot the name), Buena Vista Street inspired from the 1920-30s LA, Grizzly Peak (raft river rafting over California), Soarin' over California, and the California Screamin.

    "I was asked to look at California Adventure. It had five or six of the most popular attractions in the resort... and yet the park as a whole was not successful. What it meant was DCA did not have the sense of place or warmth or the Disney bubble that Disneyland had. It lacked sincerity. When you put something that doesn't have that right across the street from Disneyland, it just feels discordant, and so people weren't comfortable there." -Bob Weis, Creative Lead, Disney California Adventure 2007-2012

    When the Park opened outside Disneyland Park it was focused only to California Theme Park and such low attendance every day and 25% only who visited the park in 2001 like the experience of the Park. In 2008 the Disneyland and California Adventure planned to Renovate and expand the Park They add some attraction and re theme the other rides. The Sun Wheel re themed to Mickey's Fun Wheel, SuperStar Limo (Which one of the biggest failure dark ride of Disney) re themed to Monsters Inc. Ride. They a added a night time show called World of Color they Added a ride Little Mermaid. The Maliboomer was took down. They Expand a Theme area called Carsland and a new ride called Radiator's Spring Racers and Luigi's Flying Tires. Toy Story Midway Mania ride was added also to the Park even in Main Disneyland they have a Buzz Lightyer Ride in Tomorrowland. Silly Symphony Swings added to Paradise Pier. They added also Beuna Vista Street. Sorry on my English and this all i remember on the Adventure side Expansion and Renovation

      Look, you are very informative at your admiration towards Disney Parks, but I think we can all pick our own butts up and do our research. But thank you for being there for the kids born in the 21st century not being aware of the history of DCA. But I think most of us know the good old times when Disney was still growing.

    JoinRichard Kind and BarryBostwick (SpinCity) as they trek through Disney's CaliforniaAdventure themePark to find the (then) Disney CEO Michael Eisner, but two bumbling security guards ("Whose Line Is It Anyway's" Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood) are right on their tail to apprehend them. A whole slew of movie and TV stars accompany the journey as Richard and Barry discover their own "California Adventure".
    This program aired January 2001 on ABC; one month before the opening of the park.
