  • Culture shocks are real. I have decided to share my experiences of life in Germany as a Brit, as well as the beautiful places I am lucky enough to visit.
My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Relax and escape with me from the busy bustling world to my dreamy and serene slow living way of seeing my surroundings. Experience the magic of peering into the past and being in a fairytale, just for a little while.

Abseloutely fabulous video. And very brave. As a Norwegian most people think my greatest Ww-2 heroes was Montgomery and Patton. In fact it was not. Not even Staufenberg. It was the Scholl siblings Hans and Sophie. In particular Sophie. And other brave Germans like Willy Brandt and many many more. I thank the modern Germans for their help to Ukraine today. I thank you for sending your troops to exercise Nordic Response these days. Germany is really standing up to evil these days. Danke Deuchland!🇸🇯❤️🇩🇪. And thank you Lauren!

Dear Lauren, again very interesting stories from you. Action of resistance like Junge Bundschuh happened quite often, but directly after the war, people were not talking about it. They were living together, but knowing each other, who has been a Nazi, who not. So they excluded these issues to keep peace between them. So were my parents - they never talked about it. And the next generation quite often did not get to know these stories. I know similar stories from the town Leer in Northern Germany.

no, don't worry about any "fettnäpfchen"! You are absolutely right! I was born in 1965 and was growing up and educated under the paradigm of "never again"! And that may have been the reason, at least I'm not constantly talking about the dangers of fascism. Because this is so fundamentally engrained in my life's compass that this hadn't even risen to any level of conscious concern. Until recently. You are absolutely right. We should never forget to talk about it. What's not been talked about will become forgotten! We cannot afford for this to be forgotten. And that's the reason - if any - I'm proud to be German: to know that the path into the future cannot be about bringing back the past.

wow! you´ve finally had the chance to drive through "my area" and home, the Pfälzerwald and the area called "die haardt"! Thanks for showing my "home" to the internet people!!! I truly think that it is a hardly recognized area of germany (by foreign tourists) although its very beautiful, full of dense forrests, castles and also a great place to live with moderate prices for outdoor activities, food, rent and even buying houses. Its very close to the french border and we have really great authentic restaurants, food, wine and landscapes down here. When it comes to visiting "Rhineland-palatinate" most visitors/Tourists only end up in the "Rhineland" area because it has the bigger advertisement, better infrastructure and more famous touristy places like the famous river rhine and its castles or the great vineyard areas and most of these visitors don´t even set a food into the beautiful palatinate area.
I wanna thank you so much for this video, showing the mostly underrated but beautiful palatinate valleys and forrests to your followers! Hi Lauren, my wife remembered me of a tale from the Castle "Rheingrafenstein" I'm sure you'll love it, because it's not sad. The Lord of Rheingrafenstein tried to build a castle on a steep rock above the Nahe river.
But it was so dangerous and steep, that nobody could realize the castle.
The lord was desperate, and suddenly the devil occurred, and told the lord that he will build his castle over night, as payment the devil wished to have the first soul who watched out of any window of the castle.
The lord agreed, and on the next Morning a beatyfull castle was build.
But nobody was in the castle, so the devil waited to get his payment.
Meanwhile the lord has send two people with a donkey to the castle, and he told the people to never watch out of the window, but let them send the donkey to watch out of the window. And exactly this happened. The donkey watched out of a window, the devil arrives and took the donkey with him. The devil was betrayed, and was so angry that he let the donkey fall into the Nahe river.

I am a huge fan on The Sisters of Mercy, I'm active on fan forums and all. After each gig, press reviews found online get posted on the forums. With _at least_ half of these reviews, you can tell the author didn't bother to at least show up at the concert. That's the kind of journalism that is under threat of being replaced by Chat GPT, and I have no complaints about that. 😊
There's a nice short summary about what the Sisters think of the press on their Homepage under "information, Interviews and Bio-Mechanics"→"Rationale & Rhyme & Reason"→"Evolution Science". You obviously encountered one of the specimen described there.

Dear Lauren, as I listened to your report about the rude press lady, a thought occurred to me that showed a completely different aspect to this rudeness. It's possible that I'm just too old and too sceptical about AI. (No, I'm not a digital dinosaur, I like a lot of things in our digital age, but I'm also someone who likes to exercise caution). The fact that she didn't want to take a photo of you on stage but in front of a black wall makes me suspect that she may not have been from the press at all but wanted the photo for abuse. How easy it would be to crop a person in an image editing programme if they were simply standing in front of a black wall! And with the help of AI, every word could be put into your mouth and you could perform any action, no matter how abstruse. And yes, I am aware that this would also be possible if you had been recorded on stage, but it would simply be technically more difficult. Maybe I'm doing the lady an injustice, but that was my first thought when I listened.
Anyway - you had every right to escort her out! Even if she wasn't up to no good.

It's not unusual, especially for smaller, local newspapers in rural areas, to handle things like that. the reporter in question has to cover very large areas and most often verious dates an evening, so they will show up briefly, get a "general impression", and move on to the next occasion, wirting everything up that night or the next morning.
At school, when we were holding a concert, we always had to keep two seats free in first row for the press folks, which might be used for half of the concert time. It is an unspoken agreeement, then, that the general tone of the article is positive.
Led to the funny effect that once, we as the choir really messed a piece up for I don't know what reason. As the press guy had already left, he gave us a ravoing review for this exact piece, just reusing his text from the year before... 🤣
That said, even if "press coverage" in rural places sometimes hast to be taken with a grain of salt, on the other hand there is no need to be rude to guests and artists whatsoever. Especially not _because_ of that grain of salt thing. 😉

Its also very pretty there, quite hilly, but no real mountains like the name says. Tip: dont plan a bicycle tour there... :)

I wouldn't agree that we dont speak about the resistance groups during the Nazi era. I watched lots of stuff on TV about it.

A tale from the castle of Berwartstein.
I'm too lazy to translate, and you're doing well in the German language.

Today a very first critic: You mention these recent protests demontrating against "the right" and you bring this people ("the right") together with former nationalsocialists during the Hitler-epoc. For me, sorry when I am wrong, the onliest explanation is that you are following a mainstream-media stereotype against "the right". I don't want to misuse you wonderful channel for political dicussions, the danger of provoking a further polarisation is too high for me. My only recomendation could be: Speak with and to the people, not only about them. Sure that a lot of "the right" appreciate your videos about our country very much. One of them: It's me. Greetings from the Mosel valley, not far away from Heusweiler.

Maybe I should have said far right? I mean the people who don‘t want foreigners, which I am, not conservatives.

@@LaureninGermany Far right in the same sense of extreme as we find it in all colours and corners of the political and religious spectrum. I am a modern conservative, so far I am a "right", who lived 17 years abroad of Germany in different countries and cultures within Europe and Latin-America to which I feel and still have a very close relationship.
My critic is against a policy which opens Germany to cultures, who do not fit to the ours, who destroy our German culture, still in recent times, much more in a long term perspective.
      Enough with politics.
I still appreciate very much what you are doing, independant if we fit in (stupid) polical questions. I wish you all the best, go forward, I follow your videos wherever you are in Germany, may be one day here in the Mosel valley.

Unfortunately quality of life in Germany has diminished in the last 30 years. For heavens sake Rheinland-Pfalz tries to hold the old quality.

Actually, it has not. It's just that you got thirty years older, and that changes a lot. You should take a few steps back and have a look at *any* generation and their laments about how "everything" has gone south over the "past 30 years", no matter what century or even millenia. We have texts from ancient Greece and Rome, and even from Egypt which sound exactly like your comment. That should give us pause and reason to see things with greater distance and calm.

Please differentiate between 'the right' and right wing extremists. Not everybody who is conservative is a 'nazi'. Bring debate culture back!

I probably should have said far-right, but I translated in my head, meaning the demonstrations against what I have always seen written as "Rechts", probably have been shortened. I don´t mean conservative - I think it´s clear who I mean.
I certainly agree about debate culture.
