Could you do a video on how to handle and pick up your Guinea pig?
Dom Pinto that's easy you put your dominate hand on the front end of you guinea pig, the. Put your other hand on its bum, be very careful not to squeeze it
Just come in from the side and gently pick them up. If they are skiddish let them in a hidie and gently pick that up.

What an incredible guinea pig video - full of really great info for new GP owners. Having grown up with guinea pigs, I've learned a LOT and this is one of the most accurate and concise informational videos I've seen online yet!! I would like to add (and I know YOU know this) that the hay and pellets should be administered as fresh as possible. Otherwise these fussy little critters will lose interest in them. We put small hand fulls out regularly to ensure a constant but fresh supply for our Scooter! I'm so glad you mentioned that the little colorful "bits" in some pellet mixtures are NOT good for them, nutritionally speaking and because of the choking hazard. No one else I have watched has mentioned this critical piece of info. GREAT JOB!!!

This video has great info. We have the healthiest, smartest guinea ever. Scotch even knows her own name, but I accidentally bought rodent repellent trash bags home and started using them before I realised. Now we're scared again, but she seems fine.

Am I the only person that noticed the irony of a video titled "What you Need for a Guinea Pig" and the first thing you see is a scared guinea pig eating out of a near empty food bowl. In all seriousness your video is great and I wish more pig owners would watch it before getting a guinea pig.

A teacher in my school has 2 guinea pigs in a cage almost to small to fit a hamster. I dont know what to do and im afraid if i tell her ill get expelled or she'll give them to my freind who babysits them but she never takes them out. What do i do??? :(

Could you make a video on how to train guinea pigs because I just got one today and apparently it's a rare color because it's all black ( earwax, fur not a single other color, eyes, and even toenails!) Hi, I'm getting guinea pigs in a few days, you talked about c&c cages being the best. Obviously, I want my piggies being as happy as possible, so will a large, outdoor hutch do?
Hannah Bateman I'm sorry I' super late on this, but no. It will be extremely hard to tame them if they are away from humans for long periods of time. Also, hutches are quite pricey, even if you build it yourself. And you cant really control the weather, so what happens if it rains? You won't have enough time to move their wet dripping hutch indoors, and replace all the bedding/fleece. I think you should make a c&c cage, or get a store bought cage that meets the size requirements.

One thing that people don't really know is that guinea pigs are one of the 'small animals' that need the most space out of hedgehogs, rats, gerbils, hamsters, etc.

Hi! So, my little brother was wanting a hamster for his birthday but I looked into them and found out that they may not be good with little kids (my brother is 6). So, I looked into Gpigs. My mom is kind of on the edge of deciding whether or not we'd even get one. I have 3 important questions: since we travel sometimes in the summer we would need some way of boarding them. How do you deal with this when you have to be away from your pigs? Second: how hard are they to care for? Since he's little it'd be great for him to learn responsibility but I'd rather it not be stressful to care for them.
Last one: Is care expensive? With the initial cost of the cage, bedding, toys, food, bowls, hay, etc I understand that will be the most expensive investment, but long-term care expenses will probably have the most weight on the decision to buy a Guinea pig. Is it okay to have a 1x2 for one pig and an L shaped cage of 1x2 and 1x1 for a daddy pig and two baby boys? It's not forever it's just for a while because my grandma got surgery on her back and we got a hospital bed two months before that . It's lent so after a year she can take it to her other home. My girl piggy gets so much attention in my room ,now that she's there .

I'm possibly fostering rats for a local rescue soon, and am custom making a cage. I plan on using fleece rather than bedding, but am having a hard time finding fleece blankets. Any suggestions?
I recommend going to a fabric store such as JoAnn's. Be sure to get 'blizzard' or 'anti pill' fleece. Good luck!

I feed my 2 pigs in the Morning and Night.
in the morning they get
3 baby carrots
and a leaf of greenleaf lettuce
1/8 C. of pellets
at night they get
1 slice of green Bell pepper
and a leaf of romain lettuce
and 1/8 C. pellets.
they also have unlimited timothy hay :))) oh yeah and they get a snack in the afternoon either a few raisens or a fruit or veggie!!
so they get at least 2 cups of veggies a day and 1/4 C. of pellets.

Hi! I'm adopting two sister 1 yr old guinea pigs tomorrow from the shelter, and they will be my very first guinea pigs. They are coming in a pet store cage, that's about 48 inches I think, and I was wondering how much your size C&C cage costs? Thanks! I want to get the out of that small cage ASAP. But don't worry, I'm going to give them about 2 and a half hours of floor time in a 9 foot play pen every day. Indoors and out, obviously depending on the weather:)

If you are able to go to amazon.com order the Midwest cage for guinea pigs. It has 9 ft of floor space for them. And a kitchen and play area. Its only about $50.

My friend had a ginea pig named joey and he had a pet store cage and the food with seeds and unlimited amout and barely any hay oml you like 3 strands in its bowl and she didn't know that they could eat veggies and doesn't give him bum baths. Idk how but he lived 6 years in a horrible life style also no floor time!
my 2 girls are 1 year and a baby 8 weeks I feed them salad every day with there kibble but they wont eat bell peppers, carrot, cherry tomatoes they will only eat romaine lettuce, apple, cucumber, and cauliflower and broccoli so how do I go about giving them there full amount of vitamins?

Keep feeding different colour peppers and put herbs on them to encourage them to eat. Or cut them up really small and mix them in with their favourite vegetables.

Ok I'm kind of new to owning a guinea pig. My cousin gave her to me the other day I guess because her kids didn't pay enough attention to her when they had her. I've had her going on 4 days now and she will not come out of her pigloo/igloo thing inside her cage other than to eat and drink and she's real skittish at times and usually won't let me pick her up. I have to turn the igloo over and scoop her up in it. How do I get her to learn to trust me? And how long will it take?
It could take a while! But try to hand feed her and talk to her! If u do this she should start to trust and realise u and know that u mean good things to her! Hope I helped!😃

If you just clip the fleece to the coroplast with binder clips your guinea pig won't be able to borrow.

How much can a guinea pig coast up to I desperately need to know because probably in July I might get my first piggy XD!!!! (The bad thing is I have to buy every thing ..... :| ) and the last thing I wanted to know is how did you convince your parents to get you a guinea pig( I may be able to use it on my mom to get me 2 ) (so,far im only getting 1)
The most expensive thing is usually the cage, i bought one for £99 but its not the best size so at a very rough estimate id say like £150 at the very least for cage, the piggies, substrate or fleece, food, hay and toys. To convince your parents, write/type down loads of research about what the eat and such, then make sure they know that you'll pay for it all and that you know everything about how to care for them :) i do suggest getting two guinea pigs though as one on its own could get lonely and depressed unless you're 100% willing to spend a lot of human contact with them :) Lastly, if you can, look after a friends Guinea pig for a week if you can. CallyLovesHorses If they have long hair/fur, then you should get them a brush. It will help the fur to not get matted, and it will look much nicer. I recommend getting a small slicker brush, they usually have them in the pet store for cats.
