    I had all my teeth pulled and went 8 months without teeth or any immediate dentures letting my gums completely heal before impressions. I got my perm dentures two days ago and was really discouraged and waited so long to get them and they were a useless $1500 mess in my mouth until I found your channel God bless you brother

It seemed like everything went under my tongue and I couldn't figure out how to control everything, well I didn't even know that I needed to control anything since with real teeth this stuff sort of happens involuntarily for many of us. Swallowing is definitely hard in the beginning because your brain actually thinks the dentures are supposed to be chewed up so your brain will fight you on swallowing because it don't want to choke, and it thinks the dentures are good at first.

    Hi Bill, I got my permanent dentures today (I didn't do immediates), they look great and though feel a little bulky, do not hurt. At first I didn't see how I could even swallow liquids without choking, but caught onto that quickly. I've been able to manage soup and pudding today. I tried cottage cheese, but it went here and there. I thought I'd try to rinse during the meal the way you do and everything went kaflooey! But I'm not discouraged, I will learn. One thing I'm glad about is the fit of my dentures is very good and I plan to avoid adhesives as much as possible. I'm trying to keep all your pointers in mind, thanks again! 😁

Cottage cheese is great for that but very very small bites...

      everything is going to take some time to heal and you will need time to get used to the denture, so start off with things that you do not have to bite or chew, like mashed potato's things like that, soup and other soft things. then as you get comfortable with swallowing and have little pain then maybe add some shredded meat to the mashed and so on and work your way up. don't try to do too much at one time or you will only discourage your self. just take your time and remember it's not a race to see who can eat what, it's a journey and we all need to be slow and steady if we want to make it thru.

    New user here, and now just starting to work on the eating and getting used to them. Still Alot of gagging when making newer mouth shapes while talking and eating. But with every time I go through it, it gets easier and then doesn't happen. The most important thing is to do the best at finding what works best to keep them as secure as you can get, once I found something that actually held a bit better, everything has been easier. So hoping each day will get better. It helps listening to your advice as it's not "just me" so to speak. Helps to make me more patient and hopeful. So Thank You. Or for the chewing, I just try to alternate sides with each bite, as much as I can because both at once is just kinda unreal... For me anyway.. Again, THX! 🤟✌️

      I have never been able to chew both sides at the same time, so yes I always chew one side or the other, and things will keep getting better because you have the right attitude and the right idea. It does just take time for all of us to get used to having our mouths full of plastic..

      @@denturesvsfood yeah Thx... Had my doubts at first as you kinda get used to working around without teeth, so to speak. Ya have to get used to everything, not just the pressure, fit, biting, chewing, heck even the look! After a week now I'm finally seeing myself again. Dentures looked great, just had been awhile... lol. Crazy! I think chewing from side to side is actually the normal way of eating. I don't know why dentists, etc, say chew on both sides without clarifying back and forth.? Look like your playing a tuba or something if ya do it both at the same time! 🤣 Anyway, take care and thanks again..

    • @denturesvsfood
      @denturesvsfood  Před 3 měsíci +1

      it's way more natural to chew on one side or the other, but never both at the same time, the tongue can only control the food on one side at a time, that's why so many people hate dentures and say they can't eat with them because they are trying to chew on both sides at the same time and they end up choking.

    I ended up taking the denture out and gumming the food, the taste only lasted a few days. Now I can keep them in until they get too uncomfortable and then I take them out and pop them in the next day. It's starting to feel more natural to wear them.

My gums didn't heal right on the side that I had the root canal done. So now back to the dentist again. My gums are still so, so, so sore. They gave me a rinse on the day that I picked up my dentures 🤦 why didn't they give me the rinse before my dentures 🤷 oh my so I have to use this rinse in my mouth every 4-6 hrs so my gums can heal properly. I feel so relieve d after watching this video - like I actually have hope of things improving. I've been struggling on and off for about 6 weeks with my dentures - especially the bottoms. Knowing I may have to adjust where I chew is very helpful information to have. I have a tiny mouth - 24 teeth is a stretch - so it's hard getting much as it is. I don't understand 'chewing on both sides.' When you take a bite it is one piece of food. How are you supposed to magically switch it into two pieces so you can chew on both sides. Am I overthinking? My left lower keeps popping out and I wear adhesive. I can't get helfway through a meal without my teeth coming loose. I'll get back to trying in a few days. Just had an adjustment and a sore in my mouth is healing. Plus the dentist took some height off the bottoms while I had my teeth IN and she nicked my tongue so I'm feeling kind of rough.

      Normally swishing with something very warm but to hot you don't want to burn your mouth, but something very warm will loosen the adhesive

    Got my immediate dentures a month ago. They are remaking them because they fit so poorly. They had gaps everywhere. Some areas were too short, while other areas were too long and cut into the edge of my mouth next to my tongue. Really bad fit. Absolutely could not eat with them. I noticed on one of your videos you mention food getting caught under your dentures. Is this common and does adhesive help with this issue even if your dentures don't fit well? Thank you so much for your videos. I've been watching your videos for a couple weeks now.

    • @denturesvsfood
      @denturesvsfood  Před 2 lety +1

      if you are taking very small bites and keeping it in the center of the mouth you have less chance of food getting under the lower denture, and yes adhesive will help to keep that from happening as well, but if the adhesive breaks loose and food get's under their, you cant' just rinse like I do you have to clean all that out of the denture and reapply the adhesive and then finish your meal.

    • @denturesvsfood
      @denturesvsfood  Před 3 lety +4

      it is possible to have to little bone to retain a denture, and for people like that implants can be a good option, however that is a catch 22. for example, if they have too little bone to retain a denture, they probably have to little bone for implants, therefor they would have to bone graft's to build up the bone to retain the implants, and in that case if they are building up the bone there will be enough bone to retain a denture, so it's really up to the person what they want to do at that point, I personally think if I was going to have bone grafting done to build up the bone I would forgo the implants and just stick with the dentures because now I would have enough bone to support the dentures.

      I get so many comments on my videos, not just on this channel but my other denture channel as well where I have over 5 years of posting videos, that honestly I just don't have time to work with people one on one, because I also have a full time job, and posting videos on here and on my other channel and I also have a third channel where I just show things I do in every day life, and all the comments are even getting hard to keep up with. So I really am sorry you are struggling so hard, I know it's not fun it was not fun for me either, but I learned by just taking little tiny bites, and I mean little tiny bites, we always think we are taking small bites but we need to go smaller in some cases to get used to chewing and swallowing, the swallowing was the hardest for me, I had to force myself to swallow and I would get so mad at myself, it's because your brain thinks you are trying to swallow the dentures, so it wont let you swallow, and you simply have to force your self to swallow to re train your brain to realize that the dentures are tools.

    I had my bottom teeth out two weeks ago, and I have noticed a sore spot that's raised on the tongue side of the center of my gums. I'm assuming this is from where my tongue is touching that spot constantly to make certain mouth sounds. The tongue used to touch teeth, but now it touches gums. Will this go away? Will it eventually be less sensitive? I want to wait for my swelling to completely subside before I have bottom dentures made, but I would like to know if that raised sore spot will always be there, raised or sore or both.

    • @denturesvsfood
      @denturesvsfood  Před rokem +1

      It may be a good idea to check with your dentist and have them check to see what is causing the sore. If you don't have a lower denture there should be nothing for that part of the tongue to rub on. So maybe have your dentist taken a look and make sure it's not something like a bone sliver sticking out.

    I went 6 months after having my teeth pulled before getting my final dentures. They fit very well and don’t move but I cannot chew even the smallest bites. I have no problem with pain. My problem is being able to chew and keeping the food in the middle of my mouth it always seems to get stuck in my cheeks. I keep trying to chew differently to keep this from happening but it still does. What am I doing wrong?

    • @denturesvsfood

      It just takes time to learn something new. It took me a while to learn how to keep the cheeks tight against the dentures without biting my cheeks all the time, but if the food getting in the cheeks don't bother you and it doesn't get under the lower denture that way then your doing fine and don't have to worry about it. if it does then just take your time as you practice and you will be just fine.

      Studies have shown that it's best to sleep without them, it gives the gums a chance to puff back up where they are supposed to be, because we are compressing the gums all day with the dentures, and the gums need air, when you had natural teeth the teeth came thru the gum so they got all the air they needed, now we are covering the gums all day and we need to take the dentures out at night and give the gums some air.
