Elusive Target romps at Ellis for Asmussen's 9,441 win!

Talk about a win-win situation! The 2-year-old colt Elusive Target made his second start at Ellis Park Sunday and romped to a maiden victory at seven-eighths of a mile. Not only was it Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen's 9,441 career victory - pulling him within four of the late Dale Baird's North American record of 9,445, but it was the ninth winner for the Three Chimneys stallion Gun Runner, the 2017 Horse of the Year trained by Asmussen. Elusive Target was bred and races for Besilu Stables, which bred Gun Runner and was a partner in him along with Three Chimneys and Ron Winchell, one of Asmussen's long-time owners. Brian Hernandez Jr. was aboard Elusive Target.
