This is a 2 iron everybody can use! Matt Fryer puts that to the test, by playing 6 holes at Warrington Golf Club using just the 2 iron.
The 2 iron is the new Mizuno Fli Hi and this one is unlike the others, as it comes with a hollow head and also utilises features from the fairway woods to help improve the forgiveness and also increase distance.

Very impressive Matt! I'm of the generation that a two iron was a norm in ones iron sets. I even bagged a one iron occasionally because of one of the holes on a course I played. I've never been intimidated by the long irons. However, because of age, I just don't have the game to use them anymore.

I've always been able to hit a driving iron well ( Old school 1,2 and 3 irons better than my driver)
Brought a P790 2 17°iron last year and love the club.. and getting 210-250 with good and bad hits, great forgiveness for off centre strikes. and stays straighter than my driving hits.
but can easily play shorter distances with a slower swing. even with a high handicap.
I have an older Mizuno Fli Hi 2 iron and love it!
Definitely need to try this, I've got space in my bag for 1 more club I used to love my old 3 iron I think this 2 iron might be a good idea!!!

I am uncertain there Matt. A 2i does need precise striking, especially in a little difficult lies. Sorry to say so, but I'll stay with my Ping G425 4 hybrid, which is ideal for even difficult lies and carries easily 220yds. If you need to go 245yds, then I'd prefer to layup. That yardage with a 2i will be tough to place on the green. In slighty better lies, I'd go for a 7w, which as Ping G425 is a true fairway finder, very very forgiving and reaching 240yds if well struck. Sorry mate.

For those who have spent hundreds even thousands of pounds on the latest and greatest set of clubs, with matching tour bag, who needn't have. When just the one club can do it all! A challenge for you Matt, play a round without woods! I’ve not used woods since 1986! I do use a Ping Eye2 1 iron instead of Woods. As a result I’m hardly ever in the rough making the game easier

Damn but that a good looking club; I'd normally not even look at #2 iron but that is sweet.

So, is it recommended then? Looking for a driving iron and I have the Mizuno forged JPX900 irons at the moment so it would fit nicely with them. I have tried the Taylor Made Sim 2 iron which was very good.

I loved my 2 iron back in the day, but now I’m hitting five wood 220 to 240, middle of the fairway most of the time. What is the advantage of going back to a 2 iron like this? I couldn’t try it anyway since it’s RH only. :(
That is very similar to a ping crossover, isnt it?? The crossover also have a hollow club face and is easy to launch. 🤔🤔

No, but it’s very forgiving compared to the majority of 2 irons
@@Mattfryergolf Matt, your point is well taken but I must honestly say that I can't remember the last time I saw an actual two iron. I'm a senior golfer with an eight handicap and I average eighty rounds per year.
Technology in golf in this day and age is mind boggling and in my humble opinion the big golf companies have an object at this time of year and that's to baffle the golfing public with bullshit !!. They ( the golf companies ) are hell bent on selling their " new and latest " clubs especially the drivers and so called " game improvement " clubs.
No doubt the two iron you are demonstrating works for you and no doubt will work for other golfers that swing the club like you. I would suggest that this particular golf club would be of no good whatsoever to some amateur with an eighteen handicap. On tight holes ( and my club has a number of them ) I use a # 3 hybrid off the tee and I average about 210 yards with it. I've had this trusty hybrid for seven years now and I really can't see this club that you are demonstrating doing much for me ( other than making my wallet lighter by a couple of hundred pounds ).
I had an opportunity last Spring to test the latest drivers Titelist, Ping, Callaway, Taylor Made and Mizuno at the practice range. My pal and I had the equipment ,launch pad, rangefinder etc. give or take a couple of yards not one of those very expensive drivers knocked the ball past my good old Nike Covert driver that I've had in the bag for eight years.
It's certainly nice to have the reviews regarding clubs like the one you are demonstrating from golfers like yourself but to be honest I don't think that what you are putting forth is of no use whatsoever to the average amateur golfer ,, thanks for posting ,, keep the tips coming, they are very good.
