The Incredible Hulk (2008). Don't Make Ed Angry. You Wouldn't Like Him When He's Angry.

Stam Fine Reviews looks at the 2008 soft reboot of the 2003 reboot, both of which in turn will also be sorta rebooted. The Incredible Hulk sees Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) return to Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) and face off against The Abomination (Tim Roth). Eh.
Not terrible, but unremarkable, except here we spend 13 minutes remarking upon it. - Zábava
I'm still a little disappointed that Ed Norton didn't continue as Bruce Banner, but I guess it was inevitable... The Inevitable Hulk.
He's a really good actor, but Edward Norton is simply not a "franchise guy". He likes to have more control/input than the suits are comfortable with.
Don't make me Ang Lee! You wouldn't like me when I'm Ang Lee!
I would have given this a thumbs up, but you insulted Earl Grey, so instead I'm going to tut and be slightly less than polite.
As long as you don't sniff haughtily I think we will be OK.
Indeed, this one was a HUGE HULKING improvement over Ang Lee's abomination. I could have watched one or two more of these.
I love the pacing of it
Snappy but not jarring
Would love to see an extended cut though
Congrats on 50k subs, dude! You fluckin crack me up! Keep up the good work.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The Hulk vs Abomination fight scene is still one of the best in the MCU/ Marvel movies in general imo. Effects hold up pretty dang well with the right lighting & framing
I enjoyed your video. I like The Incredible Hulk film quite a lot, it is so much better than the 2003 version. I loved hearing the piano Lonely Man theme, the cameos of Lou Ferrigno, Stan Lee, and Bill Bixby. Also, the Hulk's angry face really looks similar to how the savage Hulk was was drawn in 70's Hulk comics. I am very much looking forward to the return of Samuel Sterns as The Leader next year, in the Captain America film.
This was almost like an episode of the Incredible Hulk TV Show.
It even had a Cameo by Lou Ferrigno.
”… and that’s all I have to say about that.” -GUMP
I feel like Hulk (2003) got the tone and theme right, and The Incredible Hulk got the action and Bruce Banner casting right… so if someone could find a way to fuse the two movies best qualities, we’d have a perfect Hulk film.
Sounds like a job for ChatGPT.
I lol'd at your Hulk potential movie puns 😅
RIP William Hurt.
The MCU has never known what to do with Banner and the Hulk ... They fear his power, and can't seem to find writers who know how to work him into stories.
They basically wrote him out of the entire Infinity War movies ... making him a hulk- coward who can't transform for most of it, and then they messed up his arm after the second snap ... so he wouldn't be a key player in the final battle. Now Hulk is just Banner with green skin ... a peaceful Hulk with no rage or excitement. A void of a character.
Is writing a powerful Hulk really that difficult??
Great review Stam, like your fun puns with movie titles & more. It made me think of the Hulk crossed with the film The Happening, the Hulkening?, Keep up the fun reviews.
Great video. I would have included the nod to the 2008 film in Infinity War when Thanos overpowered the Hulk against the wall the same way Hulk overpowered Abomination.
English breakfast tea is THE tea.👍
Ed Norton's hulk is brilliant. Defo better than Lee's version. Your reviews are brilliant mate and funny 👍🏻
The security guard is a cameo by Lou Ferrigno.
I like this movie quite a bit. Compared to the joke-fests that the MCU have been putting out, it's refreshing to see something treated as serious. Plus, Tim Roth was awesome in this & sorry to Ruffalo, but Norton always looked & felt more like the comic book Banner to me.
I'd agree. I always felt the comic Banner had hope and Ruffalo plays him kind of depressed. It's a reasonable interpretation of someone in that situation, but not really how the comics plays it out over the long hall. Obviously, there have been times when comics Banner has been on the brink of hopelessness, but he comes back.
Very considered and balanced appraisal of this movie. Excellent work Stam Fine.
This movie is one of those strange beasts that feels like there a lot going on but at the same time I don't feel like there's much happening. I don't know how else to describe it. So your review has helped to substantiate a great deal of that reaction to it for me.
It's kind of like how I feel about Solo: A Star Wars Story. Fairly entertaining while watching, but nothing really sticks with you once it's done. It's the Chinese food of movies.
People say the MCU is arse now, but I think the truth is that it’s always been up and down in quality.
Thing is there’s now so much of it, and being made so fast, that it’s down has taken over the ups.
And there were great ups. But stuff like this Hulk movie typified how mediocre to shite the MCU could be.
People forget that only Iron Mans box office success let them make the movies, it also helped that after this success Marvel was bought by Disney, who had so much money to spare back then that they could deal with couple of failures. Captain America wasn't received too well back then, Thor was received well by critics and audience but did not even break 200 mil, so did Captain America also did not break 200mil. If you look up their budget, the profit they made was not much to warrant an Avengers movie. It was Iron Man and The Avengers that put MCU on the map and Disney money helped any box office expectations was put on the IPs.
The MCU was kept 'up' by the Russo Brothers movies ... Their two Cap America films plus Infinity and Endgame were the high points by some distance.
Excitement for Thanos in the future kept the rest of the films ticking over nicely.
Who would have thought that good directors and movies that men can love as well as women would make so much money!!
Out of the first MCU movies, The Incredible Hulk is my favorite. Despite production drama, I thought Ed Norton made a great Bruce Banner. The direction is terrific with the opening shot of Rio's favelas, and later the pursuit in them. Some great action pieces throughout the film.
On top of that, Blonsky getting jacked up with the Super-Serum gave us a tantalizing bit of what a Captain America film would be like. The shot of Blonsky running faster than all the other troops and flipping around the Hulk gave a greater sense of what a Super-Soldier is than what Johnston gave us with Captain America: The First Avenger (I still like his Rocketeer).
Thanks for another great review!
A Triple upload 😁 Thanks for your very enjoyable videos throughout the year.
Never and still don't understand the appeal of the comic book hulk.
On the other hand credit for not making 'Blonsky Beat' puns
oooh! an Aspect ratio gag!
I actually like both movies, the Comic Book Panels in Ang Lee's version gave it character. Although I didn't have problems with the casting and performances in either movie, Bana made the better Banner. Connelly was the better Betty and Elliot was the better Ross.
I just wished Marvel kept this Hulk instead of the Mark Ruffalo one.
HERSHEY'S is American. G.I.’s received HERSHEY'S on the battlefield.
It's good that this Hulk wasn't directed by Ang Lee, I didn't like it when it was directed by Ang Lee.
Don't make it Ang Lee, you wouldn't want it Ang Lee!
What a smashing good review.
Ngl this review made me respect Edward Norton more. Lol
Was that a they might be giants reference, if so bless you sir.
I don't like Norton's Banner as the role gets lost in the actor. Do I believe he's a nuclear physicist specializing in radiation on the gamma spectrum? I don't even believe him as a day laborer.
Banner to me is half The Doctor, half McCready from the Thing. He knows the technobabble, he just doesn't have time or patience for it. Unlike Stark who loves being the smartest person in the room and Pym who wants to make sure everyone knows what is happening, has happened or will happen.
Awesome video go Hulk
Yeah, was never a fan of this one. I didn't care for Edward Norton. It felt too much like several of his other roles, he didn't bring anything except *being* Edward Norton. Really, I thought the casting was pretty bad all around - and OMG, even if they tossed out everything else from Hulk 1, WHY did they not bring back Sam Elliott as Ross? He was perfect, while William Hurt is just boring.
I remember the total confusion about whether theis was a sequel or not. Because it was only a few years after the Ang Lee version and it didn't cover the origin story I think everyone assumed it was, and the studio was cagey and said the first film sort of vaguely formed the backstory of the new one but it wasn't strictly a sequel.
I think there was an awareness that rebooting a franchise so quickly - especially since the first one had made good money even if critics didn't seem sold on it - would look ridiculous. James Bond and Batman had just had high-profile reboots but in Batman's case it was almost a decade after the last one and in Bond's case it was the 21st film in a series that felt like it needed a freshen up, neither of which was true for Hulk. So they decided to fudge it and make it sort of a sequel and sort of a reboot. I think that just confused viewers.
Both Tims were amazing in this film.
I'm first?
Damn!
Serious return to form for Stam. Wonderful review, and fun.
happy Christmas pal
Back at ya.
More Earl Grey for me. #WinWinScenario
The Incredible Sliders
I think the first Hulk movie was better. But that's because of the actress playing Betty.
I always felt this one is a little better than its reputation would suggest, and later use of Tim Roth in Shang-Chi and the She-Hulk mini have been welcome callbacks. But in the wider pantheon of MCU movies, I get that it's just lower tier really.
I rather enjoyed this film, saw it twice on the theatre and watch it every so often on BD; i squee when I hear "Hulk Smash" towards the end and how he works to control the beast and use it. Don't understand the hate; I mean, he's not fighting an allegory or hulk poodles like 2003. F*ing hulk poodles.😂
Ed Norton was a far better Banner than Eric Banana. Then again, I prefer Hulk 2003 to The Incredible Hulk. At least the former tried to do stuff. The latter felt like it was barely going through the motions. Anyway, The empire strikes hulk, The hulks have eyes, Hulk fiction and, White men can't Hulk.
White Men Can't Hulk,,,,Lol! 😂
👌
Funny ish
So basically.... meh!
Olestra
I find your lack of Faith in 2003 Hulk disturbing...
This is 15 years old and made more money than the marvels lol
Oh great, 13 minutes of shitting on 2 movies that no one likes. Good job.
The last mcu movie i enjoyed
