So unfortunately this got blocked and I had to trim out a couple parts of the music in order to re-clear it. Full review and talking points are all up!
I have two songs I'd like to be broken down: Cyclone by Baby bash and T Pain, also, Return of the Mack Mack Morrison. I'd love your breakdowns. Anyone interested too?
just to let you know all the songs or at least the music videos have an order to be played in and they tell a loose story of whats going on. if played out of sync the story gets lost
brilliant how fast you nail it. Chris Evans stated at the 2006 Brit Awards that the song was originally to have been called "It's There", but was changed due to Shaun Ryder's strong Mancunian accent making it sound like he was saying "It's dare."
If I remember my Gorillaz lore, Noodle basically wrote all of Demon Days by herself. It's a super Bush-era political album in general. Dirty Harry being a good example song to dig your teeth into
Hey, Knox. Here is a snippet from an interview Shaun gave to NME a few years back about how the song came to be. I've always liked the story. Shaun Ryder: "I was only there on that track [‘DARE’] and it was all quite fast. My version of events was that Damon put a track on, it had no lyrics, it didn’t have anything. I had the cans on and he said, ‘Go in the studio and try and do something’. Freestyle off the top of your head, make it up ‘cos he wanted me to basically write a song or write something. So I put the headphones on and there was no track. I started saying to them to turn it up and the track was very slowly turning up so I started going ‘it’s coming up, it’s coming up, it’s coming up’ and when it got as loud as I wanted it, I said ‘it’s dare’. As in like text speak language - “I will c u der”. I then tried to freestyle something, a right load of gibberish bollocks it was, and it ended in, ‘I never did no harm’. Then I took the cans off after about 10 minutes and Damon said, ‘Do that [“coming up”] bit again but a bit faster’. So I did, and that was it."
I was going to comment the same thing. Didn't think he would know Shaun. But hey that would be a nice band to react to. Or even the Smiths! I am curious to see what Knox has to say about Morrissey and Marr
Tried to clean up the audio as best I could! Unfortunately we had a few issues but I’ll fix it next vid. I’m away for my grandfathers funeral with family trying to film. Also if you like the song in the intro - check it out here czcams.com/video/2cO8wAXg5u8/video.htmlsi=OjMLPQ4uDXuZn48h
you're going through a loss and still entertaining us here?? don't worry about the audio, my guy! take your time. I hope you and your family get better soon ❤
My favourite bit about this sonng is that when it came out, the Gorillaz website was a tour of their house/studio and the elevator played "It's coming up" whenever you'd go up in it, followed by "it's there" when you'd get to your floor.
Loved their website! I just typed a comment about how cool and detailed their website and when I hear this song it brings me back there. Glad I'm not the only one who remembers
Love how you keep cranking out the Gorillaz Knox! Dare is a favorite. Noodle's energy in the video reminds me of being a kid with her freestyle of just hopping around and dancing, but also like how you just dance when nobody is looking. And it's totally Gorillaz vibe. It's funky, weird, and experimental. All things the group was founded on. Hope everything is good for you and I wish you the best during this time!
Im loving these reactions to songs ive heard alot as there is so much i miss in them and the things you notice are really interesting. I think that Gorillaz was Damons way of just experimenting and doing anything he wanted that he couldnt do in Blur. Also i love The Pot & The Kettle.
Every time I hear Gorillaz, I think of my nephew who loved them as a kid. ❤ Especially the songs from the album that has Feel Good on it. Not surprising a 5 year old kid would like the up beat songs and cartoon. He's turning 20 in a month... I feel old...
My nieces and nephews being 21-25 aren't making me feel quite as old as... I was a pca for a young man of 16 around 1999-2001. Seeing a picture of him as a 40 year old is wild. It went from someone in their late 20's and teenager, to 2 middle aged people.
Noodle has always been my favorite of the group. In a band where every member's backstory is absolutely insane, hers might be the most interesting of them all. It's been fun seeing her literally grow up with the fanbase
I dressed up as cyborg Noodle for Halloween once. Metal bullet hole and everything. Heavy duty double sided carpet tape is the only thing that would hold it to my forehead, thankfully after a night of dancing and sweating it came off with pretty much no problem.
Great to see you cranking these out brother Knox! Its so easy to just want to crawl in a hole sometimes, especially when something terrible happens in your personal life. You are a good example of how you can push yrself through that. Ive always thought Kids With Guns was a fun track from them.
Just your friendly reminder to ABSOLUTELY subscribe to this channel. I watch it all the time and I can't believe I hadn't before! Thanks for the content and stay GOATed Knox!
I like how you talked about how band members have different ideas to explore, because Gorillaz really embodies that. They might be a virtual band, but they experiment with different sounds a ton, and each member definitely has their own moments, both in the songs and the videos. That's another really cool thing you pointed out: when the sound drops for the bathroom shot. Gorillaz is meant to be a full experience with the audio and visuals, and the overarching story is a huge thing the fans love.
This is my second favourite Gorillaz track next to Clint Eastwood. I love it because it had Shaun Ryder on it and he takes me back to my Hasçienda days watching the Happy Mondays and chatting with Tony Wilson (family friend). I love how Rosie Wilson voice rides the mix on this track. The track has a real hidden nod to how drugs are ‘pocketed’ and dispatched, as well as the obvious interpretations. 😉
I recommend you listening to some of their older songs that others have mentioned such as Tomorrow Comes Today, El Manana, Dirty Harry, 19-2000, Melancholy Hill and Rhinestone Eyes. Though I would also love to see you break down songs like Saturnz Barz, November Has Come, Fire Flies and maybe one of their newest album which I cant decide on on the fly Love these breakdowns, PLEASE keep them coming!
Love you covering the Gorillaz tracks, a trip down nostalgia lane for me! ❤ The knowledge you display never ceases to impress 👌 I have a request please please please react to Handsome Boy Modelling School, The Truth. It may be my all-time favourite track and a hip hop masterclass. 🙏
This is my favorite Gorillaz track. But they do have so very many good ones. Love their beats. Instant emote connection. That you can dance to. Or chill to.❤
Gorillaz - 19-2000 Soulchild Remix is my favorite upbeat Gorillaz song and the one that got a lot of radio time. The original just puts me to sleep, shame it's the one that got the music video, but there is a fan upload for the remix matched to the music video that's well done, not sure if it's an official video.
11:52 "I can see the appeal of Gorillaz now, they're not just a one trick pony" yessss. Lot of comments saying do Stylo and that would be a good choice i think
This song is blasted across the pitch before we play any hockey game, and everyone goes crazy. This Song Gets Everyone Going, It's So Loved And Recognised.
I love these Gorillaz reactions! If you want another of their biggest classics, Melancholy Hill is still on of their biggest. If you want something more recent, (last few years) I really enjoyed Saturn Bars.
To understand Gorillaz you also need to look at the bands real life performers Blur, I think songs like Park Life, Country House and Charmless man have lyrically the seeds of what The Gorillaz project was to become. Ultimately the Gorillaz was supposed to get them off the Touring grind but has instead exploded their appeal. "He's got morning glory and life's a different story Everything's going jackanory (jackanory) Touched with his own mortality He's reading Balzac, knocking back Prozac It's a helping hand that makes you feel wonderfully bland (close your eyes, yeah) Oh, it's the century's remedy" - Country House by Blur
@@KnoxHill I’m sure I heard years ago when it came out that Shaun actually was saying “it’s there” but sounded so much like “it’s dare” they decided to go with that.. so well spotted, as usual😁👌🏼
I hope we get to see a reaction to the song Stylo, as well. Tomorrow Comes Today also great. Make sure you don't miss out on El Mañana, Dirty Harry, or On Melancholy Hill.
This sounds like the British problem Pink Floyd talked about in their lyrics, “Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way”. They also talked about this on the album ‘Animals’
You can learn a lot from the Gorillaz, the term musical genious is over used but I think Damon Albarn qualifies. He gets guests but pretty much all the music is his in the Gorillaz. The virtual band has been together 25 years now & is the only cartoon band that could fill a stadium worldwide when touring.
I dressed as cyborg Noodle from Melancholy Hill/Stylo for Halloween one year. We have a 4 day sci fi/fantasy/gaming etc convention here. I considered doing 3 versions of Noodle. This, the cat mask from Melancholy Hill, and Cyborg. Although if I traded this one for El Manana it's mostly the same as Cyborg, just different shirts.
@KnoxHill if you want to enjoy more if Gorillaz using the voice (and in this example) story. Listen to "Rockit". And for some fun rap lyrics go to "Rock the House". It's more Bluse like
For your reaction chanel makes it fun because visualy is very unieke and the different times when the albums came out you get completely different feel. Try "Rock the House" en "Pac-Man" back to back and realize the time difference from the music and how very different they feel
Anyone else in 2005 after Demon Days released play around on the Gorillaz website? It was weird/cool as crap and so detailed! Anywho that rushed back to me when I heard this song. Nostalgia!
Check out the DFA remix of Dare to get the full idea of how this song was going down (or coming up?) in clubs around the UK and Europe back in the day! You don’t need to make a reaction video for it or nowt, just listen for your own enjoyment and have a little boogie!

I read that the original song title was "There" but Shaun's accent was so thick that they changed the song title to "Dare"!
That's true.

Love the fact you know who Shaun Ryder is mate!….peace and respect from Manchester England brother ☮️☮️☮️
My wife has educated me 🤣🤟
😂😂😂 knowledge is knowledge no matter where it comes from. Well played Mrs Knox 👏👏👏
Shaun Ryder is a legend.
Happy Mondays single handedly brought dance to the masses.
I think at this point he just knows who every artist is

Tomorrow Comes Today is one of my favourite Gorillaz tracks.
The lead singer is from the band Blur they did Song 2, "woo hoo!"
Damon Albarn
Yes, Damon Albarn. And he has a solo album, also great. My fav song from that album is Everyday Robots, the video is also amazing.

Yep we’re gonna need a full in depth gorillaz journey👏🔥🔥
Hope you're well. Would love to see you get around to reacting to Ghost. Any song, they're all bangers
Hi from Salford UK. The "bored" style of singing that Damon does on "Feel Good" etc is usually called "Slacker" vocals .
11:52 "I can see the appeal of Gorillaz now, they're not just a one trick pony" yessss. Lot of comments saying do Stylo and that would be a good choice i think
Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head is one of their best worldbuilding and storytelling songs. Would definitely be good to check out!

Now he lives through the memories that the you care to have and share of him. ❤

the VR version of Saturnz Barz is wild. Harder to break down the lyrics with so much to look at maybe
Another day, another Knox mic issue. XP
I love just grooving to this song. It's perfect for just throwing on the background and vibing.
Seems like a loose wire. Every once in a while you can hear popping.
We need to introduce you too the DIRTY HEADS!!! Huge catalog too choose from and very positive music

I don't if you still look at these, but would love to see your breakdown of Gorillaz 19 2000
You should check out the band Massive Attack. Probably start with the song "Karma Coma".
Saturnz Barz is one of my favorites. You would love the music video as well.
I had gotten a cheap VR headset to watch another music video. Wow this one is trippy!

Should check out the live Demon Dayz concert version of Dare. Funny to see Shaun Ryder perform hammered
Should do Stylo next! That track and video is fun.
