Normally I am into Gen Z's music; strange I know, but, I guess that's what happens when you are a woman of my years who SADLY never had the responsibility of a family.
I just celebrated the first anniversary of my father’s passing and this song was a favorite of his. Never really understood why he loved it so much but today I did. It described what he felt in more ways than one. Thank you for sharing this song with us❤
It described what I think we all feel sometimes. Alone and not knowing what to do about it. Sorry to hear about your poppa, we all know that someday they'll be gone but it's never easy to accept when it comes true.
The most memorable thing I remember about Neil Diamond is him being on American Idol and giving his input to the new talent. But when he performed his 96-year-old mother sat right in front and was just beaming with pride. Loved it!
One word...Perfection!! From my youth I have been in love with the man, the lyrics, the songs, the music, the voice. He touches my heart, my soul, my spirit.
I dedicate this song to my late mother Ms. Gloria Van Cooten 1935 - 2004. Thank you mum for introducing me to a variety of genres and great music in general. I miss you so much. Until we meet again. 💕
I get emotional EVERY TIME I hear this song. Especially over the past 5-6 years since I’ve been homeless and not in contact with my mom. I can see her singing and dancing to this song every time I hear it and it makes me miss my family so much. 😪
It may seem bad and even hopeless but this to shall pass. You'll make it and someday you're going to look back and maybe even be glad. Times like these humble and shape us, we learn compassion and empathy and appreciation for things others take for granted. I'm pretty good at picking up on things and reading between the lines. Maybe I'm wrong but something tells me your story is bigger and a major obstacle is holding you back. I think I understand more than you realize, so here's the secret to having a beautiful and successful life, do the right thing today and when tomorrow comes do the same. Soon doors start to open and real change takes place. I'm not just talking, I've been there, it's not easy but worth it and I can promise it works. Chin up, the future is yours.
You made me cry even more...as I listen to this... I'm sorry with your situation but you'll make it....just be strong Kelly...and may God take care and bless you.. May you be in contact with your mom soon.
We have the situation i know and i feel it the way you do. Be strong coz God will give you more strength and lead you to the right path. My brothers had been died already but i have to move on because i have also a family. Don" t lose hope. Someday you will be alright Kelly.
Neil wrote this Song in a time in his Life where he was not to sure where to take his career in Music.. A time of searching.. What a Breathtaking Piece of Music and the Rest is History.. I Lived and Loved the 70's and literally wore out Neil Diamond on 8-Tracks
I'm feeling these lyrics more than ever during this time of self-isolation and quarantine. Three weeks thus far, and it looks like further quarantines may be issued in the future. I'm really missing human interactions. Thanks, Neil for all the beauty and wonder your music and voice have added to all our lives. Everyone stay safe and be well.
If you're young and healthy, have what you need and peace in your home be greatful. Many people have situations and conditions that have forced them into lockdown for to many years to count. Some people are stuck at home with abusive and argumentive partners. The poor have nothing but desperation. I wish more people would seek the truth and see how they're being manipulated. This world be a good time to do some research and listen to people speaking the truth. Senator Dr Scott Jensen exposed an internal document telling doctors to label ALL deaths as Covid 19. It's right here on CZcams. Search:. Show your local hospital.... they're empty! So why is a Microsoft engineer an expert on vaccines? Do you know anything about Event 201? Do you understand what ID2020 really is? Maybe you should watch some footage of the event to better understand what's happening and that it's not going to end soon. Listen to Richie from Boston. He's been warning us for years!! He doesn't say anything without proof & shows documents. Nicholson 1968 would be a great wake up channel. Do you listen to any of the press briefings? No Presidential seal on the podium. Yellow fringed flag........ maybe look up what that means but is not being said.
@@patrickbone6171 Thanks, man. It's a little better after returning to work, but outside of work, we are told to stay indoors and away from people for longer still. I can see it's really getting to people everywhere. And people are now nervous about being near others. Things will never be the same, that's for sure. Sadly I've read of several cases where people couldn't handle the fear of catching Covid-19 or the stress of isolation or primarily online-only interaction with people and took their own lives. Two recent cases I read was a teenage girl so afraid of getting sick from the constant fear-porn on the news, that she killed herself over it. Another was a 12-year-old boy that couldn't deal with being cut off entirely from his friends, and when his PC broke, and he had no peers to communicate with, he too chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It's so sad. I've not seen it that bad in my area, but humans are social beings, we need social interactions to remain mentally stable, happy, and healthy. I'm sure there are many more cases of mental anguish from all this than is being reported. And many of or those are on the edge of a personal precipice after this prolonged lockdown. All of these people need prayers as well.
Neil Diamond is just beautiful. His singing is just stunning!!!! His song's are like loveliness of a hawk flying so high!!!! Neil you are a wonderful man, a true artist, a true poet!!! ❤❤❤.. 🌹🌹🌹🌹.....
Mr. Diamond went to battle with the devil. He had a helluva drinkin' problem. Eventually, he went into isolation for nearly a year and conquered alcohol. I say he's a winner!
This song is important to me.. everytime I hear it I see my nanny who was my mommy playing this record and smiling.. most beautiful human in the world.
Miss Vicky, I heard this song on a Superbowl Commercial tonight , but when I did it instantly took me right back to my Dad listening to Neil Diamond. But more importantly "noone heard not even the chair " hit me right in the gut. My personal favorite is Forever in Blue jeans. @Also I swear like a sailor , but I'm working on it. Apparently quiting smoking Cigarettes is far easier. Who would have thought.. Lol I hope this message finds ya and all is good in your world. Timothy.
I also heard this on the Superbowl commercial and it took me back...I had to go on CZcams and listen to it! If this is the Tim Smith that I know, Congrats on quitting the smoking! The cussing sounds like you too, but will diminish with effort! Hope that you're doing well otherwise... Allen

I don't know if it was being born in New Jersey or just working in the electrical trade but it's a awful habit and one I'm trying to put behind me. Anyhow I hope ya know ya. I like reconnecting with folks in my life. Lol , that is as long as they are on the right path in life. It was a very painful Journey for me to normal slightly normal. So id like to keep it that way and add to it.
I was very close to my uncle and sadly after a long brave battle with cancer he passed away. This song means so much as he loved Neil Diamond and I choice this to be played at his funeral. Miss you very much Tony....
When that came out I was 13. Had never been to America. All I knew about the States I learned from reading Marvel comics. The song made it seem an unwelcoming place - yet I instantly loved the number. Loneliness recognises no geography and I wasn't even lonely!
I hope we can see some great tributes to Mr Diamond now, right now while he's still around us. Let's( America) not only pay the tributes to him when he goes to Heaven(Rock & Roll Heaven)!!
This song has opened my heart so many times...lucky enough to see him perform twice in my life, think what draws me most, besides his beautiful face, is that he writes his own stuff, this man has so much inside, what an inner life! And this is one of my favorite ❤️
I hear this song as a prayer to "I Am" ... its a song about those times when you are so alone that even the almighty feels far away. Such a beautiful song, such a beautiful prayer.
The Bible speaks of I am twice. Once in the Old Testament when Moses asked who should I say sent me, and God's reply was "I am" sent you. Once in the New Testament when they ask Jesus if he was the son of God he said I am.
It's that GOD ISN'T with YOU..I feel the Presents of GOD. I'm not happy where I'm at I miss ny and Florida ISN'T for me I thank GOD I feel Presents of MY PAPA MY YESHUA HOLY SPIRIT. Its just not the same when YOU leave a city where YOU came from Born and raised AND going somewhere YOU feel like YOU don't belong. Very hard to get use. To and I can't GO back. FOR HEALTH reasons. Like he said I am said I. I got an empty felling deep inside and it won't let me go..ny home but it ain't MINE no more 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😥😥😥😥😓😞😞😞😞☹☹
Probably one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of all time! The lyrics of this song are meaningful and they tell a loving story of life. Incredibly beautiful song!
His greatest song in my opinion. I've been a fan since I first heard Cherry Cherry back in the 1960s. Seen him in concert three times. He's one of the greatest showman of our time.
It is amazing how many great singers and song writers there have been. It is even greater that some of the greatest of them are still with us today! No one like Neil Diamond. Incredible song, singer, song writer. Thank God for you Mr. Diamond. Thank you for your beautiful story telling songs and voice.
This was the song we laid my mum to rest to.in 2005.... I was 23 and she was 52, she died of epilepsy 😔 I miss her sooo much. Got an 8 year old daughter now who will never know her nanna. Cherish every moment people 💕💕💕💕
Scottish Protestant, but I recall first movie I watched with my mum, Jazz Singer, and her tears. Big fan since then, tho I was 7 at the time, Diamond, Simon, Garfunkel, Bowie, Mercury. those are my boys and may she RIP
It'll work it's way out, it just did for me and seemed there was no possible way out. Heart problems, but I'll be okay. Not gonna die young, " not gonna do it." Hang in there. Smoke some weed
Im from Europe and everybody knows Neil Diamond, certainly from my ages. I listen to his songs recently and his songs realy touches my heart and soul. I love to listen !! God gave him this special gift!!. Thank you Neil.
Remembering road trips listening to songs like this one, my mom’s favorites. Good times. I’d love to go back there. I miss my loved ones who I’ve lost along the way.
I can listen to this over and over and never tire of it. So powerful and takes me back to my carefree teen years. How I so long to go back to those days..
I never cared for the sound of being alone. Personally, this is his best song. This one stands above the rest for the lyrics alone. I never cared for the sound of being alone. A statement within a statement.
I was a fan of Neil Diamond since I was a 13 year old girl. I am now 65 and am still a fan. If I am not mistaken he wrote this song due to the traveling back and forth to the west coast cause he was from NYC and he felt a bit lost in the transient between the 2 coasts. He is such a wonderful composer and vocalist.
My too this song is me and my family I no how it feels to be somewhere YOU don't like to be and somewhere YOU love to be 💔💔💔💔💔😢😢😢😢. But all I need is MY PAPA MY YESHUA HOLY SPIRIT to guide me AND MY FAMILY PROTECT watch DIRECT BLESS SHIELD FROM ALL EVIL. The great "I am" heard you. "God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'" ~Exodus 3:14
Get em Neil ! my Moms had won a radio contest when I was little she got to pick every album made by any artist Guess who she picked ? She has Good taste in music it was Neil and Elvis in high rotation at my house and I still listen to them my neighbors are becoming fans because my speakers go to 11 !
I loved Niel Diamonds music. 77yrs old and this was one of my favorites. I just realized if he heard the voice of THE GREAT I AM and listened the emptiness would have been filled. But maybein later years .....
Neil Diamond was always a brilliant song writer. Imo he is one of the all time best writers in the music business. It is hard to believe that he began his career just writing great songs for other artists to record. He wouldn't sing his own songs because he thought he had a bad singing voice. Lol I'm glad he changed his mind and started singing. There is something about Neil Diamond's voice along with his lyrics that make his songs much better than when other singers sing them. Neil Diamond gives his music feeling and often sends chills up your spine, gives you goose bumps, or makes a tear roll down your cheek. Nobody makes great music like this anymore. Rock on Neil!
Totally agree. No one can do his songs justice. Saw him in concert twice, the last time being a decade ago and his voice would still make your hairs stand on end and give you chills. Such a shame no really good singers of their own accord out there today. Love Neil Diamond.
Been a Neil Diamond fan for many years. Learned something new re that he was not happy with his singing voice. Thanks for sharing this Frank Anthus Davis III.
My all time favorite top three songs I've ever heard. I'd love to see Neil Diamond live in concert. It's okay, Neil! You're still AWESOME in my book! Thank you for creating so many melodies that I was able to attach many great memories!
I am so blessed. My niece flew me from Idaho to Denver where she had an amazing week planned for us. One of her treats was a Neil Diamond Concert at the Pepsi Center on New Years Eve. I so loved Neil Diamond already so that was so Special..I shall never forget! I have not got to see in concert most of the musicians I Love but I did get to see Neil Diamond! 😊❤
This song really hits my heart. I am NYC born and raised, but had to move to NJ for a job opportunity. So when he says LA...I say JERSEY. And it's perfect because he talks about being lost between two shores...I say...nowadays I'm lost here down the shore. This song is just perfect. I will always be a NEW YORKER. My dream is to move back home in the house I grew up in. Buying it from whoever owns it now by making them an offer they couldn't refuse $$$$$$$. Nothing against Jersey, I have all respect for every one of our states in this nation...but I belong back home, I was born to live in NEW YORK.
This is a lonely sounding song but it takes me back to when I was a teen and my life was so much easier and happier. Thank you Neil Diamond for all of the memories.
This is how it feels for me-grew up in NJ and then moved to CA-miss NJ but it isn't home anymore, but now with all these fires, my CA is sadder and sadder for me. Hard to feel at home anywhere now. I am I said...
I am from NJ also and relocated to Ky. NJ is where it all was for me till I turned 20. The now ex wanted to move. I am glad it worked out as such. But.......
Sarah and family , I was born in New Jersey myself. However we moved to the South around me turning 8 .. 1st to Tennessee and then to South West Georgia. I was born on Fort Momath and we lived in Point Pleasant.
So sorry to hear of your loss and I lost my partner just under 6 years ago but I find strength in this song by the greatest singer song writer of our time, I have to play this each day as it gives me strength.it’s 50 years since he wrote it and still a classic and my favourite of Neil’s beautiful music.💎💎💎
Infinite thanks for your work. Your songs are ethereal, deep and at the same time so real, so full of feelings. I listen to your songs because they make me feel more human in this current, unreal and almost technologically precise world. I am a foreigner living, already long years, in a place where i don't belong, sometimes I cry when I listen the song I am I said, and let the tears distort the vision of the space around me, and I can really travel inside my heart and soul, it's an intense energy for just a fraction of seconds.. .. then I fly back to reality, and I think that I am lucky to be able to experience these feelings ...and thank you, Niel Diamond, so much for that.
I'm an old man now, but back when I was a young man, "Hot August" was my favorite album. I also loved Simon and Garfunkel's music, and learned to play guitar from their song book. Looking back, though, I've often wondered why what I call "despair music" became so popular to us of the Baby Boom generation. Diamond's "I've got an emptiness deep inside, and I've tried, but it won't let me go; or Simon & Garfunkel's "I'm empty and aching and I don't know why," ... why did we privileged boomers gravitate to and relate to such words so strongly? The only thing I've come up with, after all these decades, is that self-pity, feeling yourself a victim, pretending that life sucks and then you die, appeals to some dark part of our souls. Remember Diamond's "and wept when it was all done, for being done too soon ... for being done too soon." A better way is to remember that "Happiness is a choice." So is gloom. Say, America ... how's the suicide rates doing?
I am dedicating this song to my aunt chris, it has only been one year since you passed away but it seems like it was yesterday, but for me it seems like I was just sitting in your kitchen just talking to you about building you a deck for your camper. and now you have been called home to be with the good lord. for me it still hurts me very much deep inside that you are not here for me to call and say hi how are you doing. I do miss our talks that we use to have and all of the good advice that you have given me over the years. I will always remember all of the fun that we had when we went camping over the years as well. I know that you would tell me not to dwell on your passing and to go on with life. but I wanted you to know that you had the greatest impact in my life over the years. and I have always thought of you as a mom and always will. thank you for helping to raise me and take care of me. love you always. your nephew angelo
angelo hawley Too statements that beg an answer and is pain to get none is "I Am I Said" to no one there and "Why aren't you with me now?" and no response can come . . . . for now. I am sorry for your loss.
I still have N. Diamond's records and albums -- my favorite song is Red, Red Wine. A great era of music and I'm thankful I was a part of it. Today's America, isn't how our nation once was.... So many migrants, Illegals, gangs, drugs, etc., wasn't my America growing up.
Emotional connection to something as simple as a song is powerful. Imagine being able to do what only a fraction of people can, the ability to connect through love. Many different variations of love, also a word us humans truly can not understand. It may have a definition in dictionaries but it is truly not understood. Love with all your emotions.
Muy lindo tema,,es de mi juventud,,es el artista que escuchamos pololeando con mi esposo,,hoy lo tenemos grabado en nuestros teléfono, un saludo para Neil Diamond
Beautiful.❤😇Thanks for sharing. What I have found as years pass is that emptiness within the heart will continue until you find that one that compliments a love as real as you are.

What a genius, and a breathtaking string arrangement (Tom Catalano, I believe). I hope that brilliant artists like this really do realize what pleasure and growth they have produced for their mega-millions of fans over the decades.

It's arguable whether this is Neil's best song but this is certainly his deepest. Lot of symbolism and imagery.
I always thought this was his absolute best, but I could never figure out why everyone didn’t agree……….

One word...Perfection!! From my youth I have been in love with the man, the lyrics, the songs, the music, the voice. He touches my heart, my soul, my spirit.
I simply love the song
I dedicate this song to my late mother
Ms. Gloria Van Cooten 1935 - 2004.
Thank you mum for introducing me to a variety of genres and great music in general.
I miss you so much. Until we meet again. 💕
Hello Kay, how are things going with you?
Hey buddy we're here to help you get through it.
Ein wunderschönes Lied, auch Jahrzehnte später. Löst tiefste Sehnsüchte und Wehmut aus. Danke 🖤❤️💛
I get emotional EVERY TIME I hear this song. Especially over the past 5-6 years since I’ve been homeless and not in contact with my mom. I can see her singing and dancing to this song every time I hear it and it makes me miss my family so much. 😪
I'm sorry that you've fallen on hard times. My heart goes out to you. I very recently lost my mom and I'm so happy when I hear Neil.
I feel for you so sorry please try and be strong we do care and love 💝💝💛💛😇😇😇
Makes me think where has all the good music gone ,i grew up in the 70s a great time to be young.
Neil is a true musical artist. I adore him.
I almost duplicate this song when I sing it
I love this song specially the melody
Im too
YZJY hold on in there, prove to yourself thoughts and prayers

This song makes me cry. Neil Diamond sings with pure emotion.
Hello there, how are things going with you?
Neil Diamond is just beautiful. His singing is just stunning!!!! His song's are like loveliness of a hawk flying so high!!!! Neil you are a wonderful man, a true artist, a true poet!!! ❤❤❤.. 🌹🌹🌹🌹.....
Hello Cynthia, how are you doing?
im a 46 year old welder and I've seen this cat in concert 3 times. LEGEND!
Hello Jennifer, how are you doing?
Miss Vicky,
I heard this song on a Superbowl Commercial tonight , but when I did it instantly took me right back to my Dad listening to Neil Diamond.
But more importantly "noone heard not even the chair " hit me right in the gut.
My personal favorite is Forever in Blue jeans.
@Also I swear like a sailor , but I'm working on it. Apparently quiting smoking Cigarettes is far easier. Who would have thought.. Lol
I hope this message finds ya and all is good in your world.
Timothy.
I also heard this on the Superbowl commercial and it took me back...I had to go on CZcams and listen to it!
If this is the Tim Smith that I know, Congrats on quitting the smoking! The cussing sounds like you too, but will diminish with effort! Hope that you're doing well otherwise...

Like did the rest of the muck in my life.

I could not have complemented this song any better.
This is one of my favorite songs from him, this is the first person I ever saw in concert. I was 11, I'm 41 now.
Wow!!! I was listening to his songs in the seventies and almost forgot about what a great singer his is. This song is just breathtaking!!!
Remembering those glorious days before cell phones, computers, Rap, & hatred, tattoos send me back in time dear lord
I could put this song on replay and listen to it all night. His voice, the lyrics, the music; Perfect.
Class of 77 smile God luvs ya
I hear this song as a prayer to "I Am" ... its a song about those times when you are so alone that even the almighty feels far away. Such a beautiful song, such a beautiful prayer.
He's still right there with you ;)
The Bible speaks of I am twice. Once in the Old Testament when Moses asked who should I say sent me, and God's reply was "I am" sent you. Once in the New Testament when they ask Jesus if he was the son of God he said I am.
I love this interpretation of this song. Beautiful
Probably one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of all time! The lyrics of this song are meaningful and they tell a loving story of life. Incredibly beautiful song!
what............underrated???.........he was honered by the Kennnedy Center
Errrrrm.. you mean one of the most highly rated artists of all time?
His greatest song in my opinion. I've been a fan since I first heard Cherry Cherry back in the 1960s. Seen him in concert three times. He's one of the greatest showman of our time.
It is amazing how many great singers and song writers there have been. It is even greater that some of the greatest of them are still with us today! No one like Neil Diamond. Incredible song, singer, song writer. Thank God for you Mr. Diamond. Thank you for your beautiful story telling songs and voice.

Wouldn't that be nice!
Hello there, how are things going with you?
Me too! I miss those days. Life was so much simpler.
Hello Arlene, how are you doing?
Music is one think. Neil Diamond is on another level. He's something completely different.
As I sit and listen for the millionth time, the tears just come.
So much emotion, memories...

I loved Niel Diamonds music. 77yrs old and this was one of my favorites. I just realized if he heard the voice of THE GREAT I AM and listened the emptiness would have been filled. But maybein later years .....
Hello Helene, how are things going with you?
This is even more beautiful today, cause we need it more than ever.
Totally!
WalterJacksonFreeman

My grandmother used to play Neil Diamond as a kid,it brings me back.😊
This song really hits my heart.
Oh yes you can feel the emotion when he sings
I just love..love..love this song....beautifully sung...his voice just fits into it...tq
It's a deep song it makes you very very emotional especially when you're alone
An exceptional voice that can't be mistaken..truly one of the best of all times

His news this week is devastating.
Remember Diamond's "and wept when it was all done, for being done too soon ... for being done too soon."
A better way is to remember that "Happiness is a choice." So is gloom.
Say, America ... how's the suicide rates doing?
I have been a big fan of Neal 💎 for many years his music transcends all over the world
I am dedicating this song to my aunt chris, it has only been one year since you passed away but it seems like it was yesterday, but for me it seems like I was just sitting in your kitchen just talking to you about building you a deck for your camper. and now you have been called home to be with the good lord. for me it still hurts me very much deep inside that you are not here for me to call and say hi how are you doing.

I still have N. Diamond's records and albums -- my favorite song is Red, Red Wine. A great era of music and I'm thankful I was a part of it.

Emotional connection to something as simple as a song is powerful. Imagine being able to do what only a fraction of people can, the ability to connect through love. Many different variations of love, also a word us humans truly can not understand. It may have a definition in dictionaries but it is truly not understood. Love with all your emotions.
