    5:10 the problem he was talking about was a 9mm inevitable hernia in his spine which he had to get removed by surgery. He says this in his autobiography. The reason he went to Germany was to get his livers and kidney tested. All of this happened due to injuries preventing cardio work and causing his weight to increase above normal. He is still a natural lightweight.

    I don't think people are mad at him for missing weight, per say. I think they're mad about his approach. When you take the "everybody misses weight, it's just part of MMA" route, you're obviously going to receive some backlash. After people have been seeing other fighters do so well after moving up a weight class and cutting much less weight, they begin to wonder why Khabib doesn't consider doing this as well.
    It's one thing to miss weight once, on an off occasion. But when you've missed it 3 or 4 times, and then nonchalantly act like it's "just part of the game," and it's "going to happen sometimes," the fans get discouraged pretty quickly. Now they have to live under the assumption that ANY and/or ALL of your fights could get canceled at the last minute. Not good at all.
    Sorry Nurgy, but I'm with Ariel (and many others) on this one. Obviously, if you almost DIED cutting down to 155, then the cut is too extreme. Just move up to 170 and mop up that division instead. Stop acting as if you wouldn't be able to rag-doll those guys around the way you do to the guys in 155. I seriously beg to differ.

    • @t.a9638
      @t.a9638 Před 7 lety

      PsyintZ hey mate hope you are having a fine day, I personally don't think Khabib is big enough to fight at 170, looking at his body and his frame I think he is a good 155er. I heard Joe rogan when he was breaking down his fights to know why exactly is he so dominant, he said it is not a size thing but his technique and his will. I think he would do good at 170 but he will be at size disadvantage. I would love to see him against Maia though, two of the greatest grapplers in my opinion.

    • @foramuricy

    still no clarity as to what happened to make him miss weight. why did he show up at fight week so heavy? it seems like he was carrying too much weight and his body shut down trying to lose it. how is that possible? how does a guy who's training every day not realize 'hey i might want to lose this weight now instead of almost killing myself during fight week'?

    • @jonathanwright2925
      @jonathanwright2925 Před 6 lety

      Because the last step to weight cutting before weighing in is losing all your water weight. It's not about burning off fat... it's dehydrating your body 20lbs to weigh in and then re hydrating which is absolutely miserable and comes with a lot of risks to your health depending how far you go.
      This was a regular thing growing up wrestling & in pretty much all combat sports. You can do your best to come into camp at X number of lbs. That water weight cut is still going to be what it is. When you are at this level of competition it takes 1 small hiccup with your health for you to not be able to lose whatever you are used to losing in water weight very easily. This has been going on long before the UFC.

    UFC needs to black ball Nurmagomedov and have him work his way back to a title shot. say, 3 fights against: 1. Kevin Lee 2. Nate Diaz 3. Edson Barboza 4. Tony Ferguson. I don't usually agree with Dana White but when he said "they went rogue", I agree, but why? is the question. Im with Ray Longo... Nurmagomedov may have had something in his system that his team didn't want the UFC to find out about, otherwise why go out of their way to ignore protocol and run to a non UFC physician and a hospital. UFC has ALL that covered!

    The tirimasu thing is so boring now - get over it people! 50 million jokes about tirimasu, annoying now... Fair weather fans everywhere it's pathetic! He didn't make weight, so what it happens sometimes, he'll come back and do it again. He's a killer. Love you Khabib!

    I have never heard of someone trying to make weight and almost dying. Something else is wrong here and it smacks of some sort of drug abuse.

      Really? I am not even defending Khabib hear but wow. Weight cutting is a huge nasty issue in combat sports. Forget about professionals "almost" dying. People have died & many many more have been hospitalized regularly let alone the toll it takes on your internal organs every time you do it. They purposely keep this swept under the rug and it isn't just in the UFC. Weight cutting for wrestling was BRUTAL. The ban on IV re hydration has made things even worse.
      There is a reason they do early weigh ins now have them re hydrate and then air the "weigh ins" like that now. At 145 Conor was a skeleton shuffling up to the scales. Dropping 20lbs of pure water weight and putting it back on is so bad for your kidneys. It's such a main stay in combat sports though reversing or stopping it is almost impossible.

    To all of you fans who are saying things like, "Guys, these things happen. It's normal. There's nothing to worry about" ...
    I hope, at the very least, that you are aware of the gigantic difference between putting a bit of health and/or comfort on the line vs. putting your actual life on the line. When you're almost killing yourself, literally, to pass your weigh-ins - your cut is simply too dangerous and/or brutal. Are we really going to wait for a fighter to keel over & die next to the scale before we acknowledge how ridiculous the current system is? Because that is most definitely the wrong approach, here.

    I feel bad for him because he deserve a big fight and he's probably one the best lightweights at the moment in the UFC.
