2024年5月11日-12日に開催されたASO VOLCANO TRAIL2024の公式ハイライト動画です。
～阿蘇の草原を次の千年につなぐ～
阿蘇は、今もなお活発に活動を続ける阿蘇中岳をはじめとした、火山とともにある高原地帯です。世界最大級のカルデラを有し、広大な草原や豊富な温泉・湧水などの豊かな自然に包まれ、このカルデラの中に５万人が火山とともに生活する、世界でも稀有な場所です。
　カルデラ周辺には、阿蘇の人々の手により千年以上にも及ぶとされる、採草と野焼きによって維持されている日本最大の草原が広がっています。草原の恵みのおかげで、阿蘇の人々は牛を飼い、米を作り、その美しい風景は多くの人たちの目を楽しませてきました。しかしながら、高齢化や畜産農家の減少などに伴い、多くの労力を伴う野焼きなどの草原維持活動を中止する牧野組合（草原を管理する組合）も出始め、美しい草原を未来につないでいくことが難しくなり始めています。
　私たちは、一人でも多くのランナーに阿蘇の素晴らしさを知ってもらいたい。そして、皆さんに大会に関わっていただくことによって阿蘇の草原維持活動に貢献したい。そう思っています。大会の開催に伴い、使われなくなった古道や輪千（わち＝防火帯のこと）の整備などの活動を行い、参加費の一部は草原再生機関に寄付されます。
大会で走る３２の牧野組合は牛の放牧や採草をしている場所であり、通常関係者以外が入ることは絶対にできません。
口蹄疫やBSEなどの家畜伝染病のリスクがあるため、草原は気軽に人が立ち入ることはできない特別な場所なのです。
そんな阿蘇の人たちにとって宝物の場所を、１年の一度だけの特別な日に通ることを許されます。
ランナーの皆さんの理解と協力が、阿蘇の草原を次の千年につなぎます。私たちは、阿蘇の人たち、ランナーの皆さんと一緒に、トレイルランを地域に根付く文化に成長させることを目指します。

～Connecting Aso's Grasslands to the Next Millennium~
Aso is a highland plateau area that is surrounded by volcanoes, including the still active Aso Nakadake. Aso is one of the world's largest calderas and is surrounded by rich nature, including vast grasslands, abundant hot springs, and spring water.
　Around the caldera is the largest grassland in Japan, which has been maintained by the people of Aso for more than 1,000 years through grass harvesting and field burning. Thanks to the blessings of the grasslands, the people of Aso have been raising cattle, growing rice, and enjoying the beautiful scenery. However, with the aging of the population and the decrease in the number of livestock farmers, some pastoral cooperatives (associations that manage grasslands) have begun to discontinue grassland maintenance activities such as field burning, which requires much labor, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to preserve these beautiful grasslands for the future.
　We want as many runners as possible to know the beauty of Aso. We want as many runners as possible to know about the beauty of Aso, and we want to contribute to activities to maintain the grasslands of Aso by having you participate in the event. That is what we are hoping for. In conjunction with the event, we will be maintaining old roads and wachi (firebreaks) that are no longer in use, and a portion of the entry fee will be donated to grassland restoration organizations.
The 32 pastoral cooperatives that run in the competition are places where cattle are grazed and grass is harvested, and usually absolutely no one other than those involved is allowed to enter.
Because of the risk of livestock diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and BSE, the grasslands are a special place where people are not allowed to enter casually.
We are allowed to pass through such a treasured place for the people of Aso only once a year on a special day.
With the understanding and cooperation of all runners, the grasslands of Aso will be connected to the next millennium. Together with the people of Aso and the runners, we aim to grow the trail run into a culture that takes root in the community.
