  • I am getting started on my main naming language that will be a bit more involved than my previous naming language videos, but mostly isolated to a naming language with perhaps a few features like honorifics. I will prepare some guidelines and a goal before we get started but I am definitely looking forward to some feedback from everyone! I am definitely a noob.

Good afternoon MJ. The video is very interesting. Conlanging isn't usually my thing, and it's an area I should improve on. The upload quality is set to 720p, and unfortunately it makes the text on your screen pixely and hard to read. Do you happen to have a higher resolution recording? Or perhaps record at a higher resolution next time?

Ah it's probably because I did it live, I don't have another recording I can upload unfortunately but I can definitely look into how to make it stream at a higher quality next time! Sorry about that, but thank you for letting me know!

19:04 This has me imagining a vw or wv where it has two peaks and three valleys plus the two sides.

There will be more! We mostly came up with the starting phonetics and phonology, and then a plan for what grammatical stuff to do for names, so definitely still time to throw thoughts into the ring!

1:05:14 Knowing common map words such as river and mountains would probably be good.

Yeah, I'll definitely need to go through and come up with words for those!

Why do we need a language? People can't even learn the ones we got nor get along to use them or create truly expressive languages that transcend the banality of "modern languages". There are an infinite number of symbol scripts and combinations. We don't need to try every combination just "for fun". I'd like to see a language that actually transcends our current conceptualization of reality and accelerates human understanding and intellect rather than just muddying it with more arbitrary languages.
The real question is why do you think spending all the time to construct a fake language is going to enhance your book? Most people won't learn the language, you'll spend a lot of time doing it that will be pointless(except the learning part), and it actually won't contribute really anything to the story. The only point of doing it is if the story will be cinematized and even then it is kinda pointless. It would be better to spend that time towards something more meaningful like learning a new foreign language, studying real human language, or developing a better story.

I don't think you actually watched much of my video, but I am only creating the parts of the language that will be noticeable in the written story. I'm not messing with sounds or how things would be pronounced, mostly just how people are named and adding a few other details like honorifics that will specifically serve to highlight the themes I am discussing in the book. And I think having an immersive world specifically crafted to highlight my story and theme that doesn't feel like a cheap amalgamation of a real world culture is a noble pursuit indeed. Regardless, it is going to be fun!

Your comment is simultaneously both extremely pretentious and anti-intellectual. Impressive.
