  • A New Shower Option For Overlanding | Kakadu Instant Shower
    I saw the Kakadu shower at the Overland Expo PNW and I had to stop and check this thing out. New to the US, but not to Australia. This compact little shower unit is efficient, doesn't need to be hung up, and has a built in pump! Check out this awesome camp shower from Kakadu!

    Having that 1-pound gas bottle integrated into the unit just simplifies the setup so much more than other units - smaller too. That’s really great.

      Eh... I'm less excited about that bit. I've fully moved away from the little green cans and happy to stay that way. The nice thing is adapting a larger, refillable tank to a 1lb fitting is easy.

    Thanks for this video. We are still debating on this solution for our next rig. I really like the idea of saving the space a shower would normally take up in a Van or Cargo Trailer build.

    Really like this as well. The footprint doesn’t seem too cumbersome, it seems to ignite instantly, and it’s extremely economical in terms of gas AND water consumption.
    Man, if I hadn’t just built this dope hot water shower system I saw this dude build on that Independence Overland CZcams channel, I’d be all over this. 😂🫵🤙. Love’em both brother. Excellent review as always T. 👊 🍻

    Love it. I've been using the Mr. Heater brand large heater which is basically the same but uses an AGM battery and is twice the size of this unit. It's an invaluable thing to have when car camping/overlanding, especially if you want to get some action in the woods with the lady. 😉

    Those asking why this is more expensive in the US than Australia, probably to do with some import Tax's in the US, it's also probably had to go through local certification process which costs money, and having to offer service / spares all cost's money, I guess if you don't like the price, purchase something else, it's no different to us Aussies trying to purchase anything from the USA it's very expensive and US postage costs are a massive killer for us, AU RRP is $569, but Companion sell it for $399 direct, you can find them for $379 at other outlets, on sale seen them for $329

    Yeah I’ve been using this for the last year here in Australia, it’s sold under their Companion brand. Did he say $499 USD 😳 it’s $380 Aussie here so like $250 USD 😂 Guess supply and demand rules apply. It’s a good unit though. They also make a very good single burner cooker, 12,800 BTU the thing is awesome in the wind.

  • @holdenc3082

    Tyler do you have a good stand alone easy to set up shower recommendation that would work with a Kakadu system, but doesn’t require a roof rack? One of my trucks has a roof rack but the other does not, so I want to have a shower that works for both trucks. The Suburban may not have a roof rack, but that’s only because it doesn’t need one. 😀

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  Před 4 měsíci

      I used one of these once upon a time. Twisting back to shape takes practice, but you can literally set the thing up in like 5 seconds. And it folds almost completely flat.

    How far will it pump water from if you don’t have water in your vehicle? If you want water from a river or lake you need at least 25 feet of hose..

    • @IndependenceOverland

      You just carry it to the water source since it’s battery powered. Or scoop up some water into a bucket

    Since this is basically a Companion AquaHeat, I'd love to know why it's twice the price in the US as it is in Australia. It's an interesting product, just WAY overpriced.

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  Před rokem

      Probably some goofy import issues or taxes. I’ve actually spoken with several companies trying to get their products state side and have run into issues doing so. Not sure if that explains all of it, but probably part of it.

    • @guidon.5413
      @guidon.5413 Před rokem

      @@IndependenceOverland Probably. Add 20% cost for import and other stuff, 30% margin for the US branch (which is probably a completely separate entity, therefore will get the parts only slightly cheaper than end customers) - still leaves a good amount open. It's probably a "because we can" thing, which means I'm not buying it and instead wait for the invitable drop in hype and the massive discount that will follow to get rid of the stock they have left then ...

    This is exactly the same as the AquaHeat shower which is the Australian version sold in Australia. Kakadu wants us stupid rich American sheep to pay $500 for the exact same thing which only costs $215 in Australia! I just bought an Aquaheat from Australia including shipping I paid $323.
