John 5 is just a pure, genuinely good guy, just like you Kenny. It’s because of artists like you two that I am proud to be a bass player, 49 years into my career. Cheers my friends!
The only thing better than his insanely good playing, is how nice John really is. Thanks to a mutual acquaintance, he took a moment out of his day to send me a personalised video from his living room congratulating my wife and I on our wedding simply because they told him I was a fan!!! Talk about being a humble rockstar!!! What an absolute legend
I am so glad I watched this interview with John. I've been wanting to find out about John for so long. Now I realize why. He is a normal human nice guy. You are too Kenny. I appreciate you. Thanks for the great interview.
Hey Kenny! You ROCKED Farm Aid, Buddy!!! I was happy to see John played Jack & Diane solo acoustic. It would have been so weird seeing someone else play that drum part. Anyhoo, keep bringing the great interviews! Really appreciate it!
Hi Kenny! Great interview with John, thank you! I had the pleasure of being on tour with you back in 2000 when you were touring Europe with John Fogarty, supporting Tina Turner (I was playing guitar in the Aussie band before you guys, but I play guitar for Virgil Donati, Tommy Emmanuel and others). In the few interactions I had with you in the the 3 months around Europe, you were such a gentleman, and it was a pleasure to hear you play those songs each night. I'm loving your shows brother.. the way you speak about the joy of music, and the humans are "feeling creatures" in this interview is wonderful. Peace and respect to you sir, from Down Under. Simon Hosford 🙏
I had a very similar experience when I was about the same age, five or six. I had no support in my parents and was always discouraged to pursue a music career. My uncle was a school teacher and understood my desire to play guitar and payed for guitar lessons for me when I was in junior high like seventh grade. I never looked back I became obsessed and always had a guitar or found one where ever I was. People showed me things and I was a sponge and started playing in one of the bands that I used to watch them rehearse at a grade school in the evenings and they invited me to play and saw that I had the right mind set and had a couple of chops. They took me under their wing and we took off and played all over the place from Wyoming to Texas and everywhere in between. I learned more with them than anyone else. I don’t remember what happened but I moved around a lot and joined the Air Force in 1980 a month before my 21st birthday and got out in 1987. I always wondered what would have happened if I had moved out to Los Angeles. In 85/86 I got stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino Ca. But nobody took me seriously because I had to keep my hair short. Most frustrating part of my life I couldn’t get past that I went to every audition I could. Nobody would take me in and told me they would if my hair was longer. Drinking, smoking and woman played a big part of my life after and before the Air Force. Three daughters and three failed marriages and now I’m a divorced father that still kicks ass on guitar. Bounced around from band to band and recorded a couple records that never got finished or released. Now I play in a cover band with some older guys. I think I’m the youngest person at 63. So maybe this will see a few gigs. It’s fun and it’s better than not playing at all. Or by myself at home. You guys are awesome to talk about all the things I love to talk about. Thank you… 🎸🤓🌎☮️🥓
I have so much respect for John 5, he is just the most versatile guitarist and so talented. I've always thought the true masters are usually the most humble and down to earth people and these two greats are prime examples of this. When you have the talent, there is no need for extreme egos to take over, your talent speaks volumes.
Took my wife and sister to see John and the Creeps. They both loved the show having never really seen the band before...and really came away thinking the world of Mr.5. The guy is just pure class
What a great conversation. J5 has been my favorite modern-day guitarist for many years now, and probably my favorite thing about him is his kindness is right on par with his immense talent.
Honestly the best music geek podcast out there! I feel Kenny has such a unique style that opens up guitar players(esp. John5 and Steve Lukather) in a way I rarely see in other interviews, because the people doing those interviews are usually guitar players! :-)
Kenny & John5 excellent interview. As a Marine Corps Veteran, I was in 1st Recon we would practice & prepare for a mission everyday for a month. I always prepared for the worst case scenario. I felt that away nothing could rattle me if everything went wrong.
Lmao, that seems pretty random. Nobody cares about some military job you claim to had. 😂😂😂 What does it have to do with some John 5 interview? It's like people bragging about being a sucker and falling for a scam.
Love love love this interview! John 5 is the most beautiful soul in the music industry I have ever had the pleasure and privilege to meet via his meet and greets with The Creatures. I have gone 7 times myself and took my 12 year old son the last time I went as a reward for writing his own original music for a school concert on the piano and John was so wonderful with him and talked to him about writing music. I adored him before that and after that encounter he will always hold a special place in my heart. Well worth any amount of money to experience him in person and highly recommend splurging for the experience. ❤️
WOW!!! That was an excellent interview. I know his music but didn't know him, until, now. John 5 is 100% correct. Meeting a celebrity who is excited to meet you is something you will remember for the rest of your life. I met you at WMMR in Philly in Sept 1992 and you could not have been nicer.
One of the BEST conversations I have had the privilege to set in on. I knew both as musicians but nothing personally. What wonderful people. Thank you for allowing me to set in. I am a lifetime musician (bass/singer) & am highly recommending my son that wants to start playing the guitar LISTEN.... Kool Kats 😎 Again, Thank you
I have played with, opened for, and met so many "name" musicians who have lost the love and excitement and only do it for the paycheck. It is so refreshing to see musicians of this caliber and experience who are still absolutely in love with music and with playing.
John 5 is a good guy in the same way that Jason Newsted is a good guy. Talented and genuinely nice guys who love what they are doing. Such a pleasure to watch!
What a terrifically enjoyable conversation. John's innate decency and kindness make him so watchable. My 16 year old son recently started guitar lessons so I'm sharing lots of John's videos with him. John's work ethic and dedication to his craft is a great model for kids. It's so nice to hear John's reverence for Van Halen.
Kenny....your Audiobook is awesome man!! John 5 is so humble and a "true" human if you will. Nothing phony about him or his playing! The world is a better place with your music in the ether! Thank you both 👏
John 5 not only beyond a fantastic guitar player, he is clean, perfect, humble, not conceded at all and an absolute perfect gentleman for my kids to look up to.
@@KennyAronoffOfficial These shows are usually smaller, and more intimate. John 5 always engages with the audience. And, the quality of the music produces multiple jaw dropping, face melting moments. Just found your show kenny and sitting with john 5 hearing you both talk about so many things in a mess of a world about music and just great talk is a great escape. Thank you
As a sixty year old that’s still creative and active in many things I still believe the same. People that have a passion are addicted to other passionate people. The natural positive nature of John has little to do with his guitar playing then how is as a human being. The guitar playing is just his voice. My youngest son is his age and is a passionate person as well and attracts the same individuals. It’s a great thing to see in his generation.

Alxays interesting to hear musicians experiences. John probably wouldn't remember but the band I played with, at that time (Blasted Mechanism), opened for Marilyn Manson at Lisbon's Coliseum. Do you know what? Marilyn Manson acted as a nice guy, towards us!
Oh my god, Kenny, your content is a GOLD. Such a good personality. You are a great interviewer. Like a musician's version of Joe Rogan, but much more delicate and intellectual
Awesome discussion. It sucked to see John leave Manson, because Mansons best live shows were with John. He has definitely become my favorite guitar player.
Great conversation about Eddie. The wet dry wet sound Ed created during the Hagar years, to me, is by far the best rock sound ever. Such a full sound that still allows the drums, bass and vocals to come through at the same level. Absolutely epic.
@@KennyAronoffOfficial definitely not an accident. When you surround yourself around good people things will go smoothly and John 5 is the key factor apparently that makes bands go in order and he is the most respected guitar player in the business if not he would have not played in all the bands and artists that he has . John 5 devoted his life to making a guitar talk to him and being able to play with Motley Crue and filling the spot of mick mars is some big shoes to fill but he’s not going to have any issues with doing that because he’s not a failure. Mild temper and positive energy is what makes him the success he is to this day he is the nicest guy I have ever seen interviewed in the world of music. God Bless John 5 for the time he spent with Marilyn Manson because I’m sure at times he was in pure hell and Kenny I would never leave you hanging out there on a limb and not mention you and all that I know to say in words toward you is that you are a great Fucking dude you make me feel so good about myself after every video I watch that you are in on here!!!! 54 year old dude… never really heard of John 5 until a couple nights ago… Huge Van Halen fan and old school Motley fan. Have to say now I’m in a deep dive into John 5 and this dude is fuc*ing cool as hell. Ironically going back to his story about meeting your hero bands…. I met Nikki Sixx in a club in Austin about 20 years ago when an ex of mine was dating him. She introduced me to make me jealous and Nikki was so nice and I couldn’t care less about her. All I remember was how f*king nice Nikki was ha. Good interview! John 5 seems like an amazing guy
Loved this interview! John 5 is such a genuine person, I love hearing his stories….he is as much of a fan as a musician which I think makes his stories so fun to listen to. Kenny I first learned of you when you played with Chickenfoot and since then I have loved learning about your story also. Many thanks for starting a CZcams channel, I look forward to your future content. What’s the chances of getting Alex Van Halen on to discuss drums? We all miss Alex a lot!
Another Great interview. I’ve seen two of your appearances at Butler U, and just like those, these interviews are like we the audience are sitting in a family room for a cozy little chat. Great job!
J5 is my guitar hero. I literally can’t consider any person better, due the simple fact… he can do. Everything. The same as anyone out there. Good person, and very impressive.
If I remember correctly, at track record, n Hollywood..1997 maybe 1998 John was working on those songs that would eventually get him a job with Mr. Diamond Dave. I don't remember the title the song, but it was very 'hot for teacher' like and the Leah Anroni drummer could not hit the mark ... about 2 or 3 in the morning.. Bob excused the drummer and called Kenny. Kenny came in, listened to the track while tweaking the drums. Nailed it take two. We all finally got to lock up and go home for the night. I was an assistant engineer at the time. this podcast put me right back there! Thanks
John came from a dysfunctional family and was no stranger to tragedy and loss. It's fair to say that guitar and music in general saved him from the path his siblings chose. His humility is clear to see and is central to his success.
Wow..John 5 and Kenny played homage to the late great Jerry Reed. I played electric guitar and fiddle with Jerry Reed from 1981-1984. He was a true genius on the guitar. Playing a Telecaster was mandatory..! I just subbed your channel Kenny, fantastic content.

Many thanks for starting a CZcams channel, I look forward to your future content. What’s the chances of getting Alex Van Halen on to discuss drums? We all miss Alex a lot!
yesssssssss Alex.. That would be so amazing. He keeps a very low profile
John is the most humble genius you could meet.
Another Great interview. I’ve seen two of your appearances at Butler U, and just like those, these interviews are like we the audience are sitting in a family room for a cozy little chat. Great job!
Thanks Jason for your comments and checking out my podcast.
J5 is my guitar hero. I literally can’t consider any person better, due the simple fact… he can do. Everything. The same as anyone out there. Good person, and very impressive.
Yessssss.. Thanks for watching my podcast.. : )
Life's too short to have not heard of Tom Bukovac.
Kenny, I really liked this interview. John seems like a real good guy. Keep up the good work.

Hell Yeah! So happy you had John 5 on.
John was amazing.. Thanks.
What a great interview! So much joy (from both sides). Made my day!
Thanks for your comments Rob.
John 5 is a GREAT guitarist. & he would be a great player in ANY era. Because he's SO FOCUSED .
Thanks for watching my pod cast Walter.
Thanks
wow Scott.. wow.. You just brought me back to that session. Great memories.. yessssss. Thanks for watching my pod cast.
John came from a dysfunctional family and was no stranger to tragedy and loss. It's fair to say that guitar and music in general saved him from the path his siblings chose. His humility is clear to see and is central to his success.
Thanks for watching my pod cast.. 👍
That conversation was a breath of fresh air. Really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much.. lot's more coming.
Wow. What a great interview. So good!
John 5 is epic. His abilities are so entertaining. Incredible talent.

John 5 is one of the best guitar players out there. He can play anything. He’s awesome. .

Thanks Matt..: )
A most excellent interview ! Thanks guys.

Wow..John 5 and Kenny played homage to the late great Jerry Reed. I played electric guitar and fiddle with Jerry Reed from 1981-1984. He was a true genius on the guitar. Playing a Telecaster was mandatory..! I just subbed your channel Kenny, fantastic content.
wow... you played with Jerry Reed? Amazing.. Thanks for watching my pod cast. : )
Hope/Stop At Nothing right? 😊
