  • Do you struggle with this technique? In this video we go in-depth on how to correctly do this technique.
Educator Jason takes his student through this technique.
It is important to remember to not let the comb rest flat against the head as you will then risk removing your guide! As soon as you see the guide disappear from the bottom use your clippers to remove any remaining hair 💈💈💯

One good thing about COVID-19 is that I’m learning to cut my own hair. I used to go to the barbershop once a week and spend $20, about $80 a month. Now I get to save money and time by doing it at home.

The result will never be the same.. The back of the haid would never be accurate..
Also you will make a big mess cleaning your home

Same here! been cutting it myself for well over a year now and just tried this technique, it worked like a charm and got rid of a slight line in the back. It looks much much better now. You find you also save alot of time as i used to drive there 10 mins then 10 mins back then 20 mins wait on average and then another 15-20 mins getting it cut. Massive time & money saver and generally a great skill to learn. All the equipment I bought has paid for itself now and will hopefully last years to come.
The first cut was the hardest and looked pretty bad, just being honest here... but now its much more acceptable to the point of not needing to return to the barbers. Alpha M did a great self cut tutorial if anyone is interested out there.
By the way, thanks so much for this video London School of Barbering!

@@mechreports1 I had the same experience with my first haircut, it came out pretty bad but not to the point where I needed to shave my head. I said to myself “Let me try again next week”. It seems like each week I kept correcting my mistakes until I got proficient. I started off with a cheap $25 Wahl clipper from Walmart. After I got better I upgraded to Wahl Seniors Cordless. Right now I use the Andis Masters Cordless and I love it!

@황의건 I do clipper over comb on my own head. The sides are easy but the back is very hard lol. It’s very helpful to have the trifold mirror

@@denis_0088 true. Try doing fades on yourself…
I’m one of those guys who didn’t have the slightest idea about barbering…but learnt due to covid and bought an inventory of quality barber equipment (BaByliss shaver/trimmer, wahl senior clippers, YSPark combs etc etc)
The only times I’ve seen a good self cut is on videos from CZcamsrs such as MartyBlendz etc. even Chris Bossio who does low-fades better than anyone else… his own self cut looked average.
I find there’s limitations when self cutting.. I use the x3 fold mirror and hang it up in the shower, so I only have to vacuum in there. But it’s still a bit hard to see the back with these mirrors as they’re still too close together.
There’s even more limitations with Scissor over comb work.. the awkward angles where your arms/hands can’t be positioned properly to hold everything.
I wouldn’t call my self fade cuts perfect and I’m not sure if they’ll ever be.
      but it’s acceptable,
It’s just a handy skill to learn and there’s always a satisfaction you get when your own hair cut turns out decent and outweighs the times where you’ve paid $35 for a botched job at the shops.

I've watched like 100 of fade CZcams videos, you were the first person to ever do a fantastic job of showing exactly what needs to be done. Everyone else really sucks at showing clipper over comb, their explanations are useless and they don't show you anything on camera. Thanks again for the explanation.

This was never explained to me in Manchester. I never used my clipper comb. These videos make me think there is more thorough tuition in London. The guys in Manchester were all perfect barbers, but they don't compare to the patience and attitude that these educators on your London videos have.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. Our Manchester academy offers the exact same teaching skills as they all have the same curriculum. So we definitely know all the same techniques are taught.

@@Londonschoolofbarbering I can only comment on my own experience in Manchester. I was never shown how to use my clipper comb properly so I never used it and not once did we ever use the thinning Scissors we had to buy in the kit, so I had no instruction there either. I look forward to a video from the London schools featuring the thinning scissors.
