    I'm very scrupulous when it comes to microphones since they're 'make or break' in voice over. This video settles it. I'm getting a 416. Thanks Brodie

    Great and deep analysis. Congratulations! I have an MKH-416 and I use it for VO jobs.

    I have one truth on this mic...it's my desert island microphone. If I could only pick one microphone, this would be it. It's my mic of choice!

      @brodiebrazil  Před 2 lety

      agreed. very versatile. if only it had that FULL large diaphragm condenser sound... i mean it's close and close enough, but if you listen critically, it's not identical without a ton of processing.

    I completely agree with your assessment of the mic, especially that it sounds great without any EQ. As a test, I recorded a narration with my 416 and U87, and I felt that without any processing, the 416 sounded better, ready to be used in a mix. Of course, once I started applying compression and EQ, the U87 quickly became the winner.

      @brodiebrazil  Před 2 lety

      Totally agree! The u87 is just way more full when processed, etc.

    Is that a new intro I spy?
    Another great video, too. Very clear, concise, thorough (as usual).

    Do you need a good sound card to boost its quality or is it fine with just a scarlett focusrite solo?

    Its toppy because it was around in the days of tape, it compensated for tape's loss of high frequency. That's why I don't like it. It's the mic equivalent of flared trousers. I prefer the NTG3.

    This was the video I was looking for. Will get me a shotgun mic soon. Sad, i cant afford the 416 though...

      Take a look at the budget-friendly Rode NTG-2. I just purchased the 416, but was able to do award-winning voiceover on the NTG-2. Street price is often around $280, a nice step down from the thousand-dollar 416!

      maybe take a look at the sennheiser mke 600. i have both mics, and while the mkh416 is an improvement, if ur recording into a zoom f3 w/ 32bit float and doing some eq in post, u can get the mke 600 sounding rly good

    I used the 416 for dialogue indoors with Zoom H6 and honestly it exactly sounded like the voice that is recorded on mobile phones. Very bad. It sounded nowhere close to what Iam hearing in this video. Plzz tell me what must have been wrong?

      It could be a fake one,i would say google how to spot a fake mkh 416 and take a closer look on your mic

      @JRaze Před 2 lety

      the metal pop filter is likely the Stedman PS101

      Did you think you might have a Chinese counterfeit unit? There are a lot of counterfeit of this mic out there. If you didn't get it from an authorized dealer you might have got a fake.
