- I can't recall where I first saw the iconic patio dress (also called the "squaw" or "southwestern patio dress"). But I have seen them all over my Pinterest and absolutely need one in my closet. So as Flora from Sleeping Beauty says, "Make it pink!"

Looks beautiful!! ❤
I love the colour and the way you chose all the trims in the same tone! Looks very pretty❤ cotton gauze is a difficult fabric! I usually use it for things that are oversized because it stretches out SO much! You did an amazing job taking it up and in.
Thank you! 😊
This is first time I've heard of a patio dress. It looks amazing.😊
Awe thank you, I'm excited you got to see mine first 💗
Wow I really love this, the colour is one of my favourite, I'm a pink girlie through and through ! This is inspiring me to make a cotton gauze skirt because it looks so pretty and flowy !
I'm currently obsessed with this color myself. You totally should make the skirt for yourself. Perfect for summer
I totally feel you about the collar, but it looks soooooo beautiful
Thank you, I feel fabulous in it. 😊
Most of mine were two piece. Zipper in the top, side, hook and eye or buttons with some elastic in the waist helps make it fit better and last longer...makes a great square dance outfit one of mine was seven yards around the hem.
That is so cool! I really want to find an original dress for my closet. What color was yours?
I believe that’s what these type of dresses were originally worn for square dancing. Now vintage gals just wear for the aesthetic especially to Viva.
The stretchy gauze is why you ran into fitting issues. Definitely will need to adjust the pattern to accommodate. Love the color!
That's fair. I never know with some patterns, and I should have done a mockup. But I hate making mockups they feel so wasteful 😅
❤
Love that you used a gauze to make a patio dress. Not sure if there’s a Hobby Lobby in your area but they have a gorgeous purple & mint colored gauze in stock! & guess what? Way more affordable than Joann 😅-Happy Stitching 🧵
Great idea!! I do love Hobby Lobby but I never leave without ten more items 😅
When I was a girl in the late 50’s early 60’s they were called squaw dresses. I guess because the rick rack and trim had a vaguely southwest look. I know that’s not a PC term but that’s what we called them. I never had one but wanted one.
I've seen "squaw" as a term for these dresses, but honestly it's such an iconic piece of mid-century culture I couldn't resist making my own.
12:57 -12:59 Yes you were 😊.....have you been sewing for long?
After a while, it becomes easy and almost auto pilot mode when you want gathered skirts....whether you want them very gathered or sparsely gathered , you will just automatically know what to cut out. Cheers!
It's the explaining part that's hard 😂
Omg! I love it already! I was wanting to make one like this.
You should! It's super fun, I even though of making one for my niece so I could make a mini one ☺️
Dress! Pink!
Yes, dress pink 😂
Bonjour mademoiselle!!
Ça va!?
