Being from NW Ohio i can only imagine what its like in your shoes at certain times with thousands of birds flying around you.

The videos that you uploaded talking about what way to set up your decoys depending on the wind. I would always set up to where the wind was in my face so I would have ducks come from over my head and it is harder for them to commit and land in a spread if it isn't easy. That was also much appreciated

I used a old method my Granddad taught me. I made a jerk line decoy by using a Folgers 3 lb coffee can , made a wire bail from copper wire. You run the line from the deke through the handle sink the can and wallah . Cheap but effective.

Thanks for the idea Bobby, I will have to use that this year when applicable. That will work much better than a 3 lb kayak/canoe anchor that I have seen used, but of course that was hunting out of a boat on bigger water as in the Ohio River.

Thanks for this. Good info. I tried this and i also found you don't even need the pvc pipe if your decoys are over some tall weeds. I left the Texas rigs on like you said and the rigs grabbed the weeds and the weeds acted as the pvc. They did probably move about a foot through the day but it still worked good. Had one duck come in to land in the spread and I missed miserably so this is a good trick. This was only my second duck hunt ever. Im new to this

I also dabbled a little bit with the jerk rigs and what I found was that every time i pull on the string to make movement..the string will come out of the water about 4 inches. Especially if I was set up on the bank because the land rise and you end up sitting so much higher than the water. So what I did was add a few small PVC pipes with holes in the top that I ran the string through which keeps the string hidden deep underneath the water but still allows the string to move back-and-forth. This helped a lot. Also i used a mini bungee cord between the first decoy and the string to give it more movement. Worked out real nice. Happy hunting

Man, I've been duck hunting for years, but I've always used bungie's. Glad i saw this because I'm tired of loosing anchors in the grass after that bungie breaks. I use a 2" pvc pole with bolts in one end as a blind bag/shotgun holder. If you hunt marshes and sit in the water you know there's no way to keep your stuff dry, but hanging it works. Plus it doubles as a walking stick in the marsh.

Bob if you were to add 2 t sections about 1ft from the top and 2ft from the top you would have a better way to wrap up the string. You could just wrap the cord around the two nobs sticking out the side. Making about a 2ft wrap each time, instead of wrapping it around the pole a million times. Just a thought to make it easier. Love the vids keep em coming!

This is a great idea. I don't understand why there are 20 thumbs down tho. It may not be suitable for every condition but it is a great idea. I'll be making one today. I have made the spreader, which I like but if you're in flooded areas, the spreaders hang up in the submerged grass and it can't function properly. This design defeats that issue. @mchenryjeremy Před 4 lety

Each gun/choke combo pattern differently to different ammo. Best bet is to pattern shot yourself. Just buy 3-5 boxes of different ammo, and shoot at least 3-6 rounds to check consistency. You can go to a local grocery store (furniture/appliance stores too) and ask for large boxes that they throw away to use. Set them up about how far away you plan to shoot (20-40 yards is ideal) and compare patterns. You'll be surprised with the results.
