In a nutshell, I ‘m an avid dumpster diver, scrapper, picker, treasure hunter and underwater connoisseur. The best scraper and video content creator is Mike the Scavenger.
A friend carried a grandfather clock home from the dump with the intention of replacing the clock mechanism with a quartz clock and keeping the furniture. Before stripping the clock of its guts, he took it to a clock shop to see if it was repairable. The clock repairman looked at it for about ten seconds then removed the transport lock. It keeps perfect time and has been in his house ever since.
You killed it again Mike. Doesn't matter if its slow or takes multiple days for one video... just know that we' appreciate you and your epic work ethic scrappy scrap scrap'ness. Thanks for posting vids when you can, be safe out there.

That grandfather clock is cool. I made a bar out of one several years ago. There’s some amazing things you can do with it.
A curios cabinet, a gun cabinet, a CD/DVD cabinet. Use your imagination.

it looks that the lost weights are accessory, it could be a wind up clock, there are two holes next to the 9 and 3 one could be for clock the other one is chime. If you remember you put piece of metal to the truck after you loaded the clock, that looks it is a winding key which was at dial section of clock at the time it was on the floor.
I believe the key winds up the weights
You can get spares for most of these modern long case clocks. If you have a local clock maker they can advise. They are probably worth a couple of hundred bucks upwards to several thousands depending on make, condition etc. Nice find if you can make it work.
The thing that fell off the clock is the key for winding the clock.
Mike , take out the clock works, put in a $7.00 quartz movement (hobby store) turn the cabinet into a curio cabinet for the wife

I've seen where they've taken the insides of the grandfather clock, like the pendulum out leaving the clockface. Add shelfs and use it for watches and small clock display at stores. Or may be able to sale it to a clock repair shop for parts. Subscriber for a couple of years now, enjoy your vids.

The little dancing chicken is the greatest!
You find the most interesting stuff on the curb! That clock had me salivating - I have a mantle clock from 1879 that was a wedding gift to my paternal greatgrandparents. It still works, but I rarely wind it up anymore. It is a 7 day clock, chimes on the half and the hour.

Having a sad few days . I held my pup he was 8 as he passed . I had the vet come and it was peaceful at home but so heartbreaking. My rottweiler was my everything 😢 So I was glad to see Mike posted a video .
Great collection of interesting items today. I was lusting after the hose reel that was with the grill. I use one similar for yard electrical cords instead of hoses. Wishing you and your bride another great week. Cheers

I think others have said, you shouldn't need the weights for the Grandfather Clock. You had the Key to Wind it. So has a spring drive. The weights are for the other type.

The clock looks nice, I saw the pulley things that is how some of those old ones were wound with the weights going down, but I also saw winding holes could be just a mock thing for decoration?. It may have even had more of those reeds that plays more than the Westminster chime like Big Ben, some of those had more.
If you're into keeping a good firepit get a 24" plow disc to replace the rusted out pan

That grandfather clock is gorgeous! People don't really have these much anymore, so when I see one it reminds me of when I was a little girl (centuries ago), I dreamed of owning one someday. As life went on I lowered my expectations to a grandmother clock, an anniversary clock, now I'd be happy with a used Timex. LOL I hope that clock finds a good home and doesn't end up just being scrapped out.

i have a grandmother clock. my grandmother gave it to her son when he moved to the USA. one of the last times my parents went to see him, they brought it home. i paid to have it fixed and it got left to me. my sisters and brothers then took all the good stuff from the house did not leave me much enough to do a yard sale. they had the nerve to tell me that i got the clock. oh well water under the bridge. no hard feelings with any.

I lost my grandmother in 2009, she left all of her jewelry to me and the rest of her estate to be divided evenly between my father and us 3 kids. Before that estate was even reconciled I lost both parents within months of each other. My parents didn't have a will, though my father said if he had one he would take my brothers out of it. Because of a series of unfortunate circumstances, I ended up taking care of my father for the remainder of his life, (it's worth mentioning I was the only sibling to live out of state, and my 2 older brothers hadn't checked on or spoken to my parents in years). It's hard to make this short, but believe it or not, I am. My brothers decided to appoint themselves as executors of both estates, and not only froze me out, but stole some jewelry AND sent me a bill for utilities for my grandmother's house in Indiana (I went to clean the house, ended up with a ruptured brain aneurysm while there and hospitalized for a month), that's how I ended up in Colorado to take care of my father while I rehabbed, my home is Arizona. I no longer have brothers. Anyone that could be that jealous, sick and twisted, I don't need in my life. It's been 10 years without a word between us. Money brings out the ugliness in people. My husband lost his father 2 weeks ago and I already see his older brother starting to take control, as he too couldn't be bothered with helping out his parents.
No regrets btw, I can't miss the money I never had, and I didn't sell my dignity for something I didn't earn.
Hey yeah those weights as you probably found out are easy enough to obtain. From Howard Miller the trick is to make sure the chains ⛓ are on the gears ⚙ right inside. Because those are how you wind and how the bells 🔔 ring. So I have had a black forest clock from Germany. It made it all that way. And the chains were off the gears it was a cookcoo clock you had to turn the gears to the right settings and with it turn it upside down to get the chains on. No access to that area turns out that was the right way. For that clock it had three weight they were heavy. It played music and chimed and cookcoo as well as kept time with the weights. Don't know if you're keeping it but nice find 95% there . I have always loved those happy travels

I hold my breath everytime you lift up the heavy stuff. I watch a few other people that grunt and groan and they can't talk after lifting and Betty is packed right nice and neat. I've said it before you are the greatest. Hard work but you do it so great, saving the landfills and making it work for you. Keep it up great work man.
