    Hi Boni, lovely episode.
Julian is 100% correct, a large majority of IT professionals don’t end up working as what they studied for, our realm is forever evolving and we adapt and find ourselves in other amazing spheres within the IT realm.
I started out with my CompTia A+ N+ Security+ Server+ and I’ve worked as Helpdesk to IT Procurement to Server admin to network engineer and now currently working as a IT Manager

Guys all sectors are outsouced to IT companies only few internal IT are left, IT companies doesn't care about your degree they need u to fix problem and know certain application or skills set that will help them to deliver a solution to those contracted clients remember IT companies have tender and to keep this tenders rolling they have to persue people who will hit ground running ask me will tell u more

    • @Gabriel-xq6tn
      @Gabriel-xq6tn Před 5 měsíci +1

Everyone outsources in IT. Some outsource more than others. I believe even those tech companies such as Accenture, Dimensional data, etc at some point they outsource. The question is now why these outsourcing life cycles? In my opinion the learning process for new technologies may be too lengthy or costly to achieve or deliver some services. Thus, they have to outsource somewhere else and concurrently learn or be trained on how to use these tools.

I really liked the interview and I can share Julian's sentiments. I am also a software engineer but I don't have a degree however, my journey was slightly different.
I am actually a self taught web developer. I used to study computer enginerring at Tuks but got dismissed but by then I had started a web development business, leaving Tuks meant I didnt have acccess to clientelle anymore but what it meant was that when an opportunity came to interview for an internship at an IT company, I already had a proven body of work.
That is how I got my first job. Its been six years now and thinks can only get better

Believe me there are lot of us there by LinkedIn having a hard time. But our journeys are not the same you might complete that degree, find an internship right away then get that job after completion!

He said if you have a problem, probably 10 people have have the problem and there's articles on how to fix it. That's not the first time I hear that. I heard that when I was researching Data analytics and the guy assured that any problem you have someone have had them and there are solutions which is amazing.
While I was doing my degree, I'd practice InDesign and Photoshop and check CZcams for more tricks and solutions.
In a nutshell, I agree with that statement

Hi, I have and I can say it's not so easy also comptia has requirements in points and it's not like 50% I think when you convert the points you need to get above 80% for your exam. It's not impossible but it needs hard work. The app that you can pay a little extra and get access to is helpful in understanding but the tests on the website don't reflect the exam so don't memorise, learn to understand.

I set my number (on the higher end of market salary ) in one case I set my salary range at 35% more than I was earning, after the interview process they came back with a number that was equal to about 24-26%. Was obviously more than happy to accept.
Be bold. but be worth it too.
Do research on what the company does and try figure out what their tech stack would be so when you get to that interview that number you set is justified.

With DevOps its more cloud you need certificate from AWS or Azure and with AWS its 300$

In IT, I think how much you train by getting certificates, collaborate in open source projects is important. I work for a research institute (government), most folks there got PhDs, Masters but us who are in IT fields( Developers, Cloud...) are the only ones with either National Diploma or Bsc Computer Science. The reason being in IT you need to prove what you know and getting people with a Master, PhD in Computer science is not always easy and they are very costly.
The degree is is important though.
Me, after my Bsc Comp science, I went the certification road.

Or what is Semaphore? What's Deadlock?" I asked him to write a simple program(either in C, C++, C#,Java or Python.... We have goods computers with all IDE dedicated for interviews only) with comments but failed to write. I won't mention the name of the institution he was coming from but that was so disappointing. After watching this interview again I could have specified a bit more, any of the big players that hire in mass.
Some big companies do it right. An example of one would be Digioutsoure or takealot.
AWS pays really really well but they want a pound of flesh for it aka you will be working non stop from 8-5.
But places like Capitec, FNB etc you more than likely want to avoid.
SevenC computing in Jozi is an awesome place to work too. They care about the staff.
Look into Offerzen as a first approach, I cannot promote that platform enough.
