  • The Aeldari from Craftworld Ulthwé are a pretty dour lot and we guess if you lived near the Eye of Terror, you would be too. In this full, in-depth tutorial, we show you how to paint your Aeldari Guardians from Games Workshop in this iconic colour scheme from start to finish including how to paint both their black and bone colour armour as wel las how to appoach painting their red gems (Spirit stones/ Soul stones) and their helmet lenses. Even if you don't paint Aeldari, there are some great techniques to use on other miniatures (a Space Marine in this scheme would look awesome!)

    Black armor is one of the most intimidating armor colors to paint, so Ulthwe was the best choice for the tutorial. Thanks for picking a challenging one.

    I really like this Aedari Guardian in the colour scheme of Craftworld Ulthwè, the grey is a good undercoat for painting models.

    Amazing painting as always, the academy videos are a delight to watch, and certainly learning a lot being fairly new to the hobby myself! Fell in love with the Aeldari instantly when I got into 40k. Started building my Biel-Tan crusade army recently, but I am finding it really difficult to recess shade the models. Perhaps a lovely guide on the Biel-Tan colour scheme in the near future, please?

    • @Kottery
      @Kottery Před 2 lety

      I'm sure Duncan's got a much better means of doing it, but for my Biel-tan I use Apothecary White for that purpose and then go back over the panels with a pure white leaving those recesses an off-white and sometimes grey tone.

    That's cool! I was kinda thinking for a tacticool scheme for my Sisters of Silence to contrast strongly against my golden boys (they always struck me more like sinister ladies who creep up like a shadow then golden ladies) so I might take some of the notes here for that! Thanks!

    You do make building an Aeldari army tempting. Kind of surprised because I find myself being more drawn to the armor after the black wash and before painting the flat panels. Wondering how it would look to leave the wash covering the full armor and using the Corvus black as the first edge highlight with the Mechanicus grey being used a bit less to edge highlight then light grey for very exposed hard edges. Also wonder how these guys would look with a panel or two having combat scratches. Okay... you may have more than tempted me.

    @RedPilgrim. Před 2 lety +1

    Being curious, for the helmet part. Why shade and reapply morghast bone? Why not just shade only in the recess area instead? I'd like to expand the knowledge of the the process.
    And I saw this in the space marine painting guide. For shading, there's 3 terms being used. Wash, shade and layer. Wash I'd assumed is like what Duncan did for the body armour, a big blob of shade. Layer, I'd guess its diluted with medium or water? What of "shade"? Still pretty green in painting minis🎨.

    I'm a big fan of the bone colour in this Ulthwé scheme, but it's turning out to be quite a pain to get Morghast Bone to cover smoothly (doesn't help that I primed in black either). I find I have to apply closer to 6 layers instead of 2 to get a smooth finish.
    Any advice to make it less of a headache to get Morghast Bone to cover smoothly?

I wanted to ask something: are there painting guides of more custodian figurines on your patreon, or can I just use the painting techniques you used to paint the warden several months ago for my entire custodes army? Maybe the one you painted 5 years ago (with 400 000 views, on the warhammer channel) would be just as fine too? Thank you very much !
