  • Buster Odeholm dials in a BRUTAL downtuned guitar tone for Humanity's Last Breath! He uses the Fortin Nameless suite amp sim, the TSE 808 overdrive pedal sim and a 3rd party IR with FabFilter Pro Q, but the same concepts should apply with any plugins.

I'm not tryin to put down what you said because I definitely get where you're coming from. Sometimes it does seem like there's some big secret. But perfect performances, the right instruments/amps and nailing all the takes, understanding that source tone is basically everything and just having the dedication to get the best takes no matter how long it will take is the secret. @Artyom Mosin sadly I'm using Fab Filter Pro C instead of the CLA because I haven't had funds to buy the CLA yet. But it's super weird. It still sounds good but I'll be playing a riff and for a split second it sounds ridiculously good then goes back again.
      I'll invest in the CLA and see if that makes a difference but I just wanted to say I appreciate you trying to diagnose this with me.

      either mm comp or dyn eq will do, the difference is that the comp cuts right through the treshorld and the dyamic eq just subtracts some db's, I guess that the DI was already processed in some way that's why he chosen dyn eq, maybe it's just preference

    All these plugins say how great they sound but you buy them and realize you have to add 5 other plugins to it to get that good tone...I haven't found one yet that really sounds satisfactory using it alone...I also am not really great at dialing in tones for recording but it shouldn't be that hard honestly...I can dial in a real amp in a matter of seconds with no other hardware...you are really good at making these plugins work,good brutal tone... hopefully I can get there one day.

    • @matthewbratton5003
      @matthewbratton5003 Před 4 lety +5

      Dialing in an amp on it’s own is a completely different thing from dialing in tones for a mix. Dialing in tones to record distorted guitars is hard, because distorted guitars are the opposite of what you want in a good mix hahah. It’s even harder when you tune down.

    • @antisocialnetworking3856
      @antisocialnetworking3856 Před 4 lety +1

      Why have multiple guitars instead of just one? Why have multiple instruments that fill up similar frequencies to guitar instead of just guitar? Sure, he only needs the tube screamer here in this specific instance, but there's not really any point to NOT having more options, and they can always come in handy, especially on other projects :P

    • @TheCampbell254bme
      @TheCampbell254bme Před 4 lety +5

      Antisocial Networking not really the same as having two guitars lol it’s a waste of memory running the entire suite instead of the much smaller single pedal. If he was running 3-4 guitar busses it doesn’t make sense to run the full suite on each. Unless as you said he wants the other options...but those other options are: the amp sim (which pales to the fortin by miles), effects which are so-so from tse, and more IRs which he doesn’t need so I don’t really know what other options you’re buying. It’s simply inefficient imo.

      I think he's doing it in parallel, so he has like 50% clean DI, 50% with the pedal, and he doesn't have to do anything else to the signal chain to get that

    • @TheCampbell254bme
      @TheCampbell254bme Před 4 lety

      August Desmond oh really? Didn’t catch that he was trying to use 50% clean...is that common for heavy (using heavy loosely in this context; just not clean/ambient) to run a partially clean signal? I thought people mostly did that for bass guitars?
